I’m getting really fed up of my posts being deleted.

I say nothing inflammatory. No rascism, no sexism, no xenophobia. Because that is not me, I would never.

So why are my posts being deleted? I’m adding to the discussion. Sometimes I may question if a pp is being deliberately stupid… is that a legitimate reason to be deleted?

How thin skinned are we supposed to be to use this website? It’s becoming pointless even bothering to make a post.

I made a genuine post about about how knife crime is a serious problem within major cities. Low & behold, it’s been deleted. I made some genuine points in the post, ones that could lead to a positive discussion. I’m starting to give up on MN, no other website is policed to this extent.

I agree that hate crimes should be deleted. Of course. But I have done nothing of the sort.

I find the best way to avoid falling foul of the personal attack guidelines is to not respond to specific posters to make your point. So rather than quoting or using the @ feature, I make my own response and say "some of the responses on here are so stupid/miserable/ridiculous". You can make your point without directing it at individuals.

Ooh OP, this isn't helping your case at all.

And yes I have reported this.

Well it definitely won't help if you have reported it.

Really?!

I honestly don’t know why my posts are being deleted?
Asking someone ‘are you stupid’ is a deliberate turn of phrase where I’m from.

It’s annoying if I’m being deleted for that one sentence. I’m often adding, what I think, to be a legitimate part of the argument.
I’m never deliberately insulting or personal.

The expression is ableist and will get reported. But it also sounds like you were actively encouraging discriminatory behaviour.

Oh behave. I am not a bully. We all reach the end our rope.
I’m honestly not sure what else I’m suppose to do to appease you strangers on the internet?

You don't have to appease anyone. You just have to be courteous and polite

If you don't want to be kind , then find a way of saying what you want to say which isn't accusing someone of being something WHICH YOU HAVE ZERO IDEA ABOUT

WellingtonBootilicious · 23/05/2025 00:44

So? I’m obviously not a menace otherwise I wouldn’t still be here. Like I say, I used a clunky sentence on the internet, I’m not evil fgs.

You were rude on a number of occasions. Not clunky....rude

I sometimes think that posters are being a bit doollally and you know what I do (generally) ? ....I scroll. I don't post, I scroll on by!

Try it. Its very freeing 🙄

Jesus. Perhaps MN is not for me then.

you’re all far too delicate 😭

Off you pop then 👋

Neemie · 23/05/2025 07:07

Calling it a turn of phrase doesn’t erase its meaning. You are calling the OP stupid. If you criticise the actions, not the person you will be fine.

‘You total idiot’ is a no. ‘That might not have been a wise thing to do’ is totally fine. They do actually mean the same thing though, so I get your frustration. I’m a teacher and we have to do this all the time to avoid complaints from parents. My son’s teacher didn’t get the memo on that one though and still speaks to them in a refreshingly blunt way!

tramtracks · 23/05/2025 10:59

FuckityFux · 22/05/2025 21:47

I see it as a North v South issue.

Where I’m from we call a spade a spade and will be blunt, but perfectly honest and clear.

However, a lot of southerners take offence as they’d rather ‘tell little white lies’ than actually speak honestly with someone and tell them what the problem really is.

Luckily, just like in real life, we can choose to ignore them. 😂

I’m northern and would still consider being called or asked if ‘I’m stupid’ and very rude. The OP should argue with factual based opinions, keep it civil and you’ll find your arguments will be listened to more. IRL it’s akin to adopting a moderate engaging tone of voice in discussions. Much more powerful than name calling

Thank you for replying to my post.

Can I ask what part of my posts were considered to be personal attacks?
I’ve since noticed another of my posts was deleted on the same thread.

I don't know of any language or culture where asking someone if they're stupid was ever anything other than a personal attack. Acting like it's normal is disingenuous.

all you need to do to stop having your posts deleted is to stop being rude. Maybe take a deep breathe and don't over-invest to the extent you have to insult the person to get a point across. It really isn't difficult.

It was literally the first link on google. I won’t accept blame for that.

I mean, you were the one who did the search and posted the link, why would it be your fault 🫣

you are ridiculous
