I’m getting really fed up of my posts being deleted.

I say nothing inflammatory. No rascism, no sexism, no xenophobia. Because that is not me, I would never.

So why are my posts being deleted? I’m adding to the discussion. Sometimes I may question if a pp is being deliberately stupid… is that a legitimate reason to be deleted?

How thin skinned are we supposed to be to use this website? It’s becoming pointless even bothering to make a post.

I made a genuine post about about how knife crime is a serious problem within major cities. Low & behold, it’s been deleted. I made some genuine points in the post, ones that could lead to a positive discussion. I’m starting to give up on MN, no other website is policed to this extent.

I agree that hate crimes should be deleted. Of course. But I have done nothing of the sort.

Ask yourself if you would speak to anyone in real life like this. Your family speak to each other like this according to you, but would you say it to a stranger you had just met? Or even a friend? It’s rude and derogatory.

I absolutely would! Genuinely. And I’ve never been berated for it. Maybe they thought I was a twat after I’ve walked away but in the moment it’s all meant in jest of the conversation if you know what I mean?

Irish but living in the uk. It’s something we throw around when we disagree with each other.

I honestly thought the British were more thicker skinned.

I’m Irish. I can assure it’s not something ‘we’ throw around.

Really?!

I honestly don’t know why my posts are being deleted?
Asking someone ‘are you stupid’ is a deliberate turn of phrase where I’m from.

It’s annoying if I’m being deleted for that one sentence. I’m often adding, what I think, to be a legitimate part of the argument.
I’m never deliberately insulting or personal.

Asking are you stupid is rude though. It means you’re referring to them as someone who lacks common sense or has a low level of intelligence. Why can’t you rephrase your question that isn’t a personal attack? Know idea where you’re from but people don’t go round asking that just because they might not agree with them, it comes off quite immature and closed minded.

BellissimoGecko · 22/05/2025 22:41

Hmm, on the rare occasion I’ve had a post deleted, I have probably deserved it. If you’re having posts deleted regularly, look at what you’re posting and be really careful to stick to the Talk guidelines?

I saw your post's and felt they were genuine and definitely added to the discussion.

Thank you ❤️ I also agree with a lot of your posts on that thread. Clearly mine were taken the wrong way (because of one flippant sentence). But I still stand by the important points I made.

Really?

Well perhaps I am in the wrong. It’s was never meant as an insult or personal attack. It’s something that is thrown into conversation to make someone reconsider their stance.

I would genuinely never report someone if they asked me if I was ‘stupid’.

Seems incredibly high school.

Emotionally intelligent people don’t need others to reconsider their stances. They can challenge it but accept they will have a different opinion.

WellingtonBootilicious · 22/05/2025 22:05

But is the word stupid so insulting? That’s what I’m struggling to grasp. It’s just a descriptive word for someone who isn’t getting what I mean?

That’s not what stupid means. It means being unintelligent. Not bright. Incapable of understanding.

HaddyAbrams · 22/05/2025 22:44

I know a lot of Irish people. None of them would ask "are you stupid?" unless they were trying to be rude.
Actually, the only person I know who used to say it regularly was my abusive ex. Who wasn't Irish.

Don’t think you know what stupid actually means if you think it’s a word for someone who isn’t getting what you mean. Maybe be clearer when you’re trying to explain?

WellingtonBootilicious · 22/05/2025 22:48

Jesus. I made this post to have a chat with MN. Now I’m being berated. I never meant any harm.
Calm down. I’d honestly say most of you are much nastier than I am.

I never berated or insulted someone directly. I thought we were all adults on this site. Asking someone if they are stupid is not the worst thing I could say, believe me.

There is no need for all this. I’m a good person who has never harmed anyone.

I used to work in a call centre helping people with processes and forms. Sometimes they wouldn't understand my explanation. By op's logic I could have asked them 'are you stupid'? And it would have been perfectly acceptable 😂

In that case, it would be even more important to stop using insults.

I haven't seen any of your posts so I can't comment on them, but if you feel you have good points to make, just make them without using insulting language.

Perhaps you could just write something anodyne, like:

"I don't agree with you - I believe that............ because............."

It's actually very verbally aggressive to start a conversation with:

"Are you stupid? You're wrong because................"

You're telling people they are an idiot, of course they will find that offensive. How is that hard to understand?

People aren't being nasty just truthful.

This is a huge, anonymous internet site. No one on here knows anything about you other than the words you put on a screen. When those are regularly aggressively insulting enough to continually break that site’s talk guidelines and result in deletions, maybe rethink how you come across.

Probably you don't realise how your words sting and hurt.
It's unfortunate (from your point of view) but you need to learn to be less combative.
