I’m getting really fed up of my posts being deleted.

I say nothing inflammatory. No rascism, no sexism, no xenophobia. Because that is not me, I would never.

So why are my posts being deleted? I’m adding to the discussion. Sometimes I may question if a pp is being deliberately stupid… is that a legitimate reason to be deleted?

How thin skinned are we supposed to be to use this website? It’s becoming pointless even bothering to make a post.

I made a genuine post about about how knife crime is a serious problem within major cities. Low & behold, it’s been deleted. I made some genuine points in the post, ones that could lead to a positive discussion. I’m starting to give up on MN, no other website is policed to this extent.

I agree that hate crimes should be deleted. Of course. But I have done nothing of the sort.

You should email mumsnet to discuss it if you don’t understand. If you are basically calling posters stupid, then yes, mumsnet will see it as a personal attack.

Personally I think mumsnet should delete more and on the rare occasion I’ve been deleted, I can say I’ve deserved it. 🤣

LilyMumsnet · 22/05/2025 21:25

Hi OP,

Thanks for raising this. Your posts were removed because they broke our talk guidelines. We do not allow personal attacks and our aim is to keep the boards civil.

We encourage you to repost without personally attacking other users - especially if you have points you'd like to raise on the thread.

Really?!

I honestly don’t know why my posts are being deleted?
Asking someone ‘are you stupid’ is a deliberate turn of phrase where I’m from.

It’s annoying if I’m being deleted for that one sentence. I’m often adding, what I think, to be a legitimate part of the argument.
I’m never deliberately insulting or personal.

Thank you for replying to my post.

Can I ask what part of my posts were considered to be personal attacks?
I’ve since noticed another of my posts was deleted on the same thread.

Your turn of phrase is being interpreted as an aggressive insult.

That’s a really bullying term round my way. I would never say that to someone’s face, it’s really rude.

House0fBamboo · 22/05/2025 21:33

Are you stupid? is rhetorical and is a way of calling someone thick. It's deliberately inflammatory and insulting.

Really?

Well perhaps I am in the wrong. It’s was never meant as an insult or personal attack. It’s something that is thrown into conversation to make someone reconsider their stance.

I would genuinely never report someone if they asked me if I was ‘stupid’.

Seems incredibly high school.

ChocolateGanache · 22/05/2025 21:37

How can you not know this is rude op?
I may well think to parrot your phrase right back at ya. If it wouldn’t get me deleted…. 🤷🏻‍♀️

HansHolbein · 22/05/2025 21:38

You are a twat = personal attack
Are you a twat? = not a personal attack as such but is inflammatory

Yes, a childish insult when people don’t know how to argue or disagree in a civil way.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 22/05/2025 21:39

Honestly, in nearly 15 years I don't think I've ever had a post deleted, and I've been a part of many a heated discussion. To have this happening repeatedly makes it sounds very much like a you problem.

RampantIvy · 22/05/2025 21:39

@WellingtonBootilicious where are you from that saying "are you stupid" isn't rude?

Because it is rude in most of the UK.

chatgptsbestmate · 22/05/2025 21:41

You ask someone if they're stupid and then wonder why your post is deleted? Good grief 🤣🤣

arethereanyleftatall · 22/05/2025 21:43

The irony of not knowing it’s rude to call someone stupid.

WellingtonBootilicious · 22/05/2025 21:44

Right. Fair enough, I accept the turn of phrase can be insulting. And I apologise for that, I really do.
It’s something that is said flippantly within my family but I appreciate it doesn’t come across well written down.

But does that really warrant the entire post to be deleted? I raised some important points I feel. I was never intending to cause offence. If I had been racist, sexist or xenophobic, then I’d understand. But surely as adults we don’t find the word stupid so offensive?

I'm interested where (approximately) this place is, as everywhere else it's deemed to be insulting and a personal attack.

I'm wondering that too - how can anyone not realise that saying "are you stupid" is rude?

FuckityFux · 22/05/2025 21:47

I see it as a North v South issue.

Where I’m from we call a spade a spade and will be blunt, but perfectly honest and clear.

However, a lot of southerners take offence as they’d rather ‘tell little white lies’ than actually speak honestly with someone and tell them what the problem really is.

Luckily, just like in real life, we can choose to ignore them. 😂

Irish but living in the uk. It’s something we throw around when we disagree with each other.

I honestly thought the British were more thicker skinned.

OP posts:
Pootles34 · 22/05/2025 21:51

I'm pretty thick skinned but that is an outright attack in my book!

Also Mumsnet can't partially delete a post, so the whole thing has to come down.

WellingtonBootilicious · 22/05/2025 21:54

Jesus. Perhaps MN is not for me then.

you’re all far too delicate 😭

If it is only one phrase ...'are you stupid' which is getting you deleted then make your points without preceding them with this phrase. Simple! If you still get deleted then you need to look at the tone of your arguments. And yes .. the phrase ' are you stupid' is rude. It makes a mockery of the other person's argument before you present your own point of view. This may be acceptable within your own family in the course of discussions where you know each other well and maybe all equally feel free to use this phrase, but in general discussion with those you don't know it is poor form. Derogatory and not within the realms of respectful, polite differences of opinion.

lavenderdinosaur · 22/05/2025 21:57

Just move on…sometimes people want a debate without drama and being called stupid, if you want a post/debate taken seriously remove emotions from it before just posting the first thing that comes to mind

WhatANightForADance · 22/05/2025 21:57

I think we can all see what the problem is. Mumsnet don’t always get it right, but I’m as sure as I can be, that they’re getting it spot on with this poster. 👀
