Why is Sex topic now in Active?

It never used to be there before. It doesn't really seem appropriate with some of the titles.

The way some of you comment on here truly kills me. You’d think this was your dad’s business or you have shares in the company or something. If you don’t like something just move to another app? Why all the ‘you need to change this NOW because I don’t like it’ comments?!

Getir · 22/02/2023 19:12

Without us MN wouldn't have a business.

It worked when people wanted the Sex Topic. MN set one up because people asked for it.
Nothing wrong with giving MN some feedback.

MothralovesGojira · 22/02/2023 20:04

@Janiie
I HAVE hidden the sex topic but that only works if you are logged in to MN. I use the same devices as several family members so I log in/out but I do like to pop on and look at Active threads when I have 10 minutes with a cup of coffee. I did state that I do not object to the sex topic but that I do not want to see threads asking if people like anal with my coffee and biscuits while I am perusing active threads. It is disingenuous to suggest that if any of us object to the topic being in active then we are objecting to it's existence at all because we are not.

Well said. The Sex Topic has been there for 8 years, nobody cared. The latest developments are what people are objecting to.

But Mumsnet is a content driven site and WE provide that content for free.... So we deserve to be listened to.

You 'move to another app' is the kind of crap a shit boss comes out withbwhen you're raising an issue at work "there's plenty of others out there, if you don't like it... Off you toddle" implying, that you're merely a tool to be used and can be replaced by anyone else

'If the sex topic isn't taken off Active in the next 7 days then I will deregister myself and not visit again'

Why though if you can hide it, or infact just not click on it? None of the boards are compulsory viewing. It seems a strange stance to make if you get comfort from other threads.

I bet for every one who deregs others will join thinking it is a forward thinking, modern site. Again, sex toys are very common, Ann summers purchases very common as evidenced by their high profile on every high stdeet, chats are very common it isn't the depraved grubby place some of you seem convinced it is.

Live and let live.

So you're at work, and discover people have been discussing sex in detail privately in a teams chat to each other, and you then get added to this chat without consent.

That's fine..? After all it's not grubby and you do work for a modern company after all...

Sparklingbrook · 22/02/2023 20:19

Everything is ‘common’ apparently…

No one anyone is adding anyone to anything.

It is on a separate board, you have to go looking for it then click on it..then actually post something. Now I'm not sure of your definition of being added but that is not mine.

No...it's showing up in active... So added to my notifications without me asking for it.

I've basically been added to the notifications of the board...

Oh and you were forced to click on it and then forced into the chat!! Weird.

Hide it.

LangClegsInSpace · 22/02/2023 20:32

If I remember right @Janiie you have said you don't care whether sex threads are in active or not so it's not clear to me what you are arguing against.

I’d rather ‘opt in’ to viewing adult content than ‘opt out.’ That said though, I accidentally clicked on another ad for the vibrator by being curious about the below link. I stupidly didn’t connect recent birth with sex. So looks like they’ll get us either way!

And you'd have no issues with me sending you unsolicited sex content right now? To your PM? Or wherever.
After all, you can just delete it and block me, so it's absolutely fine for me to do it, surely?

Who is sending you unsolicited sex content to your pm? Surely you'd report that!

Rogue1001MNer · 22/02/2023 21:03

I can't believe this thread is nearly full and no decent response from mnhq 😲😔

kittensinthekitchen · 22/02/2023 21:16

Oh look at that! 😂

Getir · 22/02/2023 21:21

There's a wishy washy reply from a MNHQer on the other thread.

BIWI · 22/02/2023 21:22

What did you say @kittensinthekitchen?! (Give me a clue rather than repeating it, to be deleted again!)

So, you agree, it's not acceptable to have sex content thrust upon you ... Thank you, I'm glad you're getting the point
