Royal section full of hatred

@MNHQ - almost the entire Royal section is becoming the equivalent of the Daily Mail comments section with so much bile and hate for M&H. I found the thread about her wedding dress particularly vindicative and nasty to read.

I'm all for free speech, but where does the line become crossed into targeted attack / hate? I think we're getting pretty close to be honest.

Yes I know I can hide the section - but that misses the point - the frenzy is still going on there. How can we (you, @MNHQ) work to tone down the temperature?

But the ableism and misogyny directed at the posters attracts very little attention. « Mentally unwell » (sometimes accompanied by faux concern), « crazies » and « unhinged » - not very MN.

Whilst there might be a lot of upset in the Royal section there've also been some thoughtful comments too. Kings & princes have been complained about since the dawn of time, only in history, it was through pamphlets. I don't like some of the comments I might read but that applies on any board. We should be able to read (or not) and move on.

What, exactly, would you like MNHQ to do about the current reaction on here to the fastest selling non fiction book in history?

It's Harry who is full of hate.

He wrote the book - if he hadn't MN wouldn't be upsetting you with the "hatred".

Just hide it. It's full of over invested loons.

What is ‘the tabloid version of the book?’

It’s his own words. Context doesn’t make much difference when you’ve written what he has.

That is becoming more, and more apparent daily. Some of the posters clearly have issues.

I've seen highly critical posts, but not hate-filled ones. But even if there were some, Harry isn't brown.

They don't want to hide it. What would they moan about then?

It is starting to really piss me off. I come here for good practical advice and a micro break from the kids, not for bitch town in weirdass city.

I particularly do not welcome random opinions on being black in America ('but AYE think she has a lovely OLIVE glow' - vom), flower girl dresses (ffs who has the time) or things that are subjective personal experiences, except when Sherlock the Random decides to take her QVC teach yourself course in Royal protocol and libel law and decides none of it happened QED.

Oh come off it there has always been hate on MN. Just check out the Boris Johnson threads. It’s nothing new.

I think this thread is a bit OTT. The documentary on Netflix, the Tom Bradby interview, the publication of Spare - these are all news events, in the UK at least.

Let people discuss them. If you see an offensive post which crosses MN talk guidelines then report it.

There are thousands of posters, like me, who don't hate Harry and Meghan, who want to talk about this news. We are not all deranged loons, far from it.

It isn’t just mn though, the amount of people on am and irl that are so hate filled towards people they don’t know it’s astounding. The general consensus is eff him for moaning when I’m not sure how to pay my bills. People are really angry. Mn has these same people on.

I couldn't tell you what's happening on some boards or websites because I hid them or never go there. I also wouldn't know how many times it happens and who posts there because...I hid them and never check.

There's hatred everywhere but I wouldn't go shutting it down because I can't. I just remove myself from it and live life.

I have a few threads hidden - they were either irritating me, boring me or were irrelevant to me. Took a few seconds to hide them, and I moved on with my life without tying myself up in knots complaining about them and indulging in unnecessary drama.

Well look at how the covid topic was back in the day. There's a lot of sad and very angry people out there

Absolutely bizarre. Can't understand why anyone cares about any of them. We have no way to know the truth so what's the point of even speculating. Saddened by why it matters so much to so many people, and definitely saddened at the vitreole and pointless side-taking. I honestly feel these people must be habitual gossips and this is total fuel to their fire as they can jabber on ad infinitum in cloud cuckoo land.
