Royal section full of hatred

SpaceCandyCoconut · 11/01/2023 12:07

@MNHQ - almost the entire Royal section is becoming the equivalent of the Daily Mail comments section with so much bile and hate for M&H. I found the thread about her wedding dress particularly vindicative and nasty to read.

I'm all for free speech, but where does the line become crossed into targeted attack / hate? I think we're getting pretty close to be honest.

Yes I know I can hide the section - but that misses the point - the frenzy is still going on there. How can we (you, @MNHQ) work to tone down the temperature?

People are allowed opinions about current affairs. Unless we are in 1984. He’s written a book which has deliberately attracted the attention of the world and its media. Why he just didn’t live quietly with his kids, wife and dog in California, as normally as possible, away from the RF, I’ll never understand. YABU.

Samcro · 11/01/2023 12:13

sadly its been like this for a while. not its just gone mad. people can't post on an existing thread, they have to make their own and there is no moderation , so stuff is said and left up that would not be allowed else where.

W0tnow · 11/01/2023 12:14

I bet the politicians love it. No one is talking about the NHS, or Cost of Living, the War. Or anything that matters, really.

He tried that and the tabloid stories kept rolling in.

I agree op. Everyone is reacting to the tabloid version of the book and all of this bile rather proves Harry’s point!

IntentionalError · 11/01/2023 12:15

Then don’t read it. Problem solved.

DogBowlsAreMyWeapon · 11/01/2023 12:15

If you think mn is full of hate - you should read the book! 🙏

Thestagshead · 11/01/2023 12:19

You can’t silence people as you don’t like their opinions , so rush to class it as hate as a way to silence.

LetsDoThis2023 · 11/01/2023 12:22

I've blocked the RF threads op.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 11/01/2023 12:23

People who are struggling to heat their homes and feed their families are tired of hearing someone vastly privileged moaning about often trivial things.

No one is complaining about Harry, for example, talking about the death of his mother - the threads and memes are about nonsense such as bridesmaids dresses and having sex in a field.

Can't people talk about a variety of things that interest them, though? It doesnt have to be limited to cost of living. There have been threads on that for practically the entire year. Aren't people entitled to have a break from that and discuss another current affair topic, the royal family? Should I only be allowed to talk about things politicians don't want me to? That sounds very anti democratic to me.

Its not a board i go on but i have just read the wedding dress thread and had a quick look at the first page of the board

i agree with samcro its not so much that there is a thread about the book for example its the fact that most people seem to be starting new threads to discuss tiny segments, such as the ‘Sunken bed’ thread

But now the stories are rolling in at about 100x the rate.

What does it matter to you what people react to? People react to skewed headlines and quotes out of context regarding politicians all the time. Do you complain about that?

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 11/01/2023 12:30

Hello @SpaceCandyCoconut we're not too surprised at the volume of threads about Prince Harry and co, as often what is happening in the news is reflected in what people want to talk about on the boards. From experience, this will tone down as the story moves off the front pages and, as always, we moderate against our Talk guidelines.

MarshaMelrose · 11/01/2023 12:30

Are there rules that you can only start threads on macro level issues as opposed to micro level issues?

They don’t bother me - I don’t need to block the board. I am not concerned at them rolling in at 100x the rate. I’m just pointing out the consequences of the book.

JoyPeaceHealth · 11/01/2023 12:33

I think there is bound to be a lot of discussion in the days following the book launch /leak. A lot of things have new content.

some of the threads I've been on have referred to trauma and therapy and discussions have been interesting. Labelling every opinion ''hate'' is just so basic.

You were on here yesterday calling someone a "fucking fud" in a Meghan thread. Nice username btw, glad to see you side with abusers.

DogBowlsAreMyWeapon · 11/01/2023 12:36

@BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers said user was berating other users for getting something “wrong” (auto carrot will do that to you). Unfortunately said poster was herself factually incorrect- and nothing to do with carrots. 🤷‍♀️

Littlechickenhead · 11/01/2023 12:44

Threads about the royals have always been unhinged on MN and have got even worse since Meghan got involved because she’s catnip for the racists. I’ve hidden the royals board because frankly, I think a lot of the posters on there are suffering from mental health issues.

ganvough · 11/01/2023 12:51

Funny how when male centric audiences create entire forums, media sections and industries to bitch and moan about sports like they personally play it, it's considered "passionate", and a "hobby". Yet when female centric audiences do the same about a book written specicially to evoke a response, they're called "unhinged", "mentally unwell", and "racist"....

HeadNorth · 11/01/2023 12:56

That is the issue - people who are struggling to heat their homes and feed their families are being distracted by the right wing media and encouraged to focus their rightous anger on a total irrelevance. Our politicians are letting us down badly as our infrastrucure collapses, businesses go under and workers are forced to strike in a futile attempt to highlight the problems - but look over there, shiny thing.

JaneJeffer · 11/01/2023 13:04

The only anger I have seen is from people moaning about the Harry threads. Everyone else is having a laugh.
