Royal section full of hatred

SpaceCandyCoconut · 11/01/2023 12:07

@MNHQ - almost the entire Royal section is becoming the equivalent of the Daily Mail comments section with so much bile and hate for M&H. I found the thread about her wedding dress particularly vindicative and nasty to read.

I'm all for free speech, but where does the line become crossed into targeted attack / hate? I think we're getting pretty close to be honest.

Yes I know I can hide the section - but that misses the point - the frenzy is still going on there. How can we (you, @MNHQ) work to tone down the temperature?

hatred

Find another word, FGS. This one has been beaten into utter meaninglessness by overuse.

‘Context’ is coming perilously close…

Viviennemary · 11/01/2023 23:25

I can't see the issue. Harry has wriitem a really controversial bookmwhich has grabbed the headllnes for days. It's not surprising people want to discuss it if they're interested.

pilates · 12/01/2023 06:38

@Twillow, again, iyo. Many people will think it’s justified their extreme dislike of H & M’s behaviour.

HappyFannyPetrow · 12/01/2023 06:42

“I found the thread about her wedding dress particularly vindicative and nasty to read.”

This is so nonsensical. Surely the answer is just don’t read it?? I genuinely don’t understand posters who complain about threads they’ve clicked on and voluntarily scrolled through. The content may be unpleasant but it’s your choice to read, and consequently your problem if you’re offended. So long as the content isn’t criminal what can MN do? Free speech exists.

confusedcentral5 · 12/01/2023 06:45

I think it's quite scary how people are so bitter & hateful of complete strangers. It's like people feel personally rejected, so weird!

SmokeyPaprika · 12/01/2023 06:47

constant threads mean more money for Harry, Meghan and Netflix - which is why they are doing this - so it's good for h&M and Netflix

Rockybooboo · 12/01/2023 07:30

I'm on chapter 5 and it's not even remotely filled with hate. The only hate is towards the press.

Yep, the number of posters that were screaming 'you're deranged, obsessed, sad, mentally unwell' - but it was the same posters repeating themselves on all the threads about h&m.

Just don't read them.

I'll never understand why some people think they can remove stuff they don't like. Such a crybaby mindset.

I think it’s odd that people are actually scared when they read threads about H&M on MN. If you’re that easily scared it’s probably best that you hide the topic.

It is starting to really piss me off. I come here for good practical advice and a micro break from the kids, not for bitch town in weirdass city.

I particularly do not welcome random opinions on being black in America ('but AYE think she has a lovely OLIVE glow' - vom), flower girl dresses (ffs who has the time) or things that are subjective personal experiences, except when Sherlock the Random decides to take her QVC teach yourself course in Royal protocol and libel law and decides none of it happened QED.

Oof.

But what does it matter to you how other people choose to spend their time? You have clearly made time to respond to this thread - nobody is stopping you from ignoring or hiding threads you aren't interested in Confused

Here's some practical advice: stop using ridiculous phrase phrases like "bitch town in weirdass city". HTH

Because I don't like bullies. I don't really care what drives you to set up however many username[number] accounts to sockpuppet your way around the Internet, spreading malice, or what need it fulfils in you.

But when I see hate I'm not going to hide it or hide from it. I'm going to call it out.

Came on to say this.

Loudly for the back: DISAGREEMENT IS NOT "HATE".
Some other things that aren't "hate": Discussion, opinion, scepticism, interest, examination of claims made.

Don't like it - don't read it. I'm able to skim past thread titles that don't interest or concern me. Why aren't you, all those who complain endlessly about people saying things you don't like? Why? What is actually your problem? Why the need to try and control what people talk about?

JaneJeffer · 12/01/2023 14:16

A typo @JennyForeigner I meant phrases obviously

LindorDoubleChoc · 12/01/2023 14:18

It really is so easy to hide a whole topic. Your average 5 year old could manage it. I don't understand why so many Mumsnetters seem incapable of it.

I don’t think they mean they’re in fear, it’s a saying meaning it’s a bit mad

Because they want opinions they don’t agree with banned, not just hidden.

It's not hate to dislike H&/M and comment on their behaviour. It's your problem alone if you can't deal with differing opinions.

JaneJeffer · 12/01/2023 14:16

Consider it an object lesson in hypocrisy. You reserve the right to be as critical as you like about others and to back the frankly horrible and gleeful abuse which is becoming the norm for any Harry and Meghan thread on here, but you don't like it yourself, do you?

If you really want to know why I don't mute the subject, it's because the hate is spreading across threads. I've seen Harry and Meghan being dragged into everything from an individual's asking for help managing step relationships to mental health to media law.

It's trying to normalise something which is vaguely disgusting, so by all means take your own advice and don't engage with me. I reserve the right to continue to see and understand the depth of the obsessional behaviour of some posters, and to challenge it where required.

DogBowlsAreMyWeapon · 12/01/2023 14:36

Ironically Harry’s entire book is a “lesson in hypocrisy”.

'It's just an opinion' is a mandate for open racism, sexism, misogyny and anything else it's convenient for someone to characterise as harmless.

By all means state your 'opinions' if you must. But you can't then object to others challenging them, can you?

SirChenjins · 12/01/2023 14:44

Exactly @DogBowlsAreMyWeapon - which is precisely why posters are challenging his inaccuracies where required.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 12/01/2023 14:44

You're not objecting, just complaining.
