Pages taking an age to load - anyone else?

Is anyone else finding that some pages are taking an age to load? And a message keeps appearing, something like "page taking ages, do you want to wait?"

It's only happening with mumsnet, no other sites.

I see nothing has improved since last week! Honestly, I give up!

Mumsnet seems unusably slow overnight, and quite frequently during the day.

I've tried both my laptop and my phone (chromebook and Andoid) and it takes ages for pages to load. It also hangs my chromebook quite often so I need to reboot, and posting messages where you need to copy across from another tab (ie the Wordle thread which is very long) also hangs everything. It isn't an issue with the devices, as I have no problems with any other site.

Desktop site is so slow. Had to go on to search for a thread because the app couldn't find it. Took me about five minutes to type a one sentence post!

We originally thought that this was related to the server issues, but if it's still happening then that likely isn't the case.

Really sorry about this -we are keen to get to the bottom of it. Can you make sure to provide us with device/browser details and let us know if you get any error messages? In your experience, what time of day/night does this appear to be happening?

Also can we have some examples of threads you're on when this happens? We will try and replicate!

I'm on an iPad (Safari, ios14.6). It seems worse in the evenings for me - really slow from 8pm last night but no error messages that time.

error messages for me are usually the "checking your browser" one or the "cloud flare" one that is really common. I thought I had a Screenshot but I don't.

It happens on any threads for me. Nothing specific.

the site seems fairly sluggish at the moment for me. Not as bad as in the evenings by a long way but off its best.

Longer threads or shorter threads or a general mixture?

Does ios14.6 mean you're up to date?

Seems to be after 8.30 / 9pm through then until after midnight.

All threads, when it is doing it.

I'm on a laptop, if that helps.

I think ios14.6 is not quite up to date. I have an update to 15.5 pending but I think 16 is due soon anyway.

It's everything - short threads, long threads, active conversations, threads i'm on...

We're going to try and catch the issue but is anybody able to record an example and email it to us on [email protected]?

I've switched from 'show all posts' to 'show max 100 posts' and things have improved in loading (no more freezing), but it's still overheating my phone!

I agree with it being on threads with lots of posts. Takes ages to load or freezes, refreshes halfway through me typing a post and then it disappears. Post button won't work, then get a 'page is unresponsive' message. Infuriating!

I've thought abut doing that, but having to flip between pages in long threads really irritates me so I don't want to change it if I can possibly avoid it.

I've just stepped back in to see how it's going, after a couple of days break - and I notice a small improvement, in that message typing is back to normal (after being horribly stuttery) - and scrolling is definitely better than it was now.

For before though, it made no difference from my perspective how long or short a thread was. I'm on Chrome and a laptop (but one that still uses Windows 7 Pro) - but since my problems are shared with others, I don't think ye olde Windows can be blamed for them!

Yep! Get the 'aww snap' on long threads before I can finish reading them.
Typing is stuttery.
Navigating is usually slow or doesn't work.
Posting takes forever

@LilyMumsnet It's still happening for me, yesterday and today - chrome on a chromebook - which just freezes and then I need to reboot the laptop. Or wait for a really long time. And on a android phone which displays the Snap page often.
The longer threads seem to be worse for this. I'm not sure there would be any benefit in recording it, it would just be a frozen page!

Was happening yesterday on my kindle.

However today on lap top with chrome browser it keeps going to snap page and losing my typed and not yet posted replies again and again.

Typing in also painfully very slow to appear other times normal- first time I've found site almost unusable.
