Pages taking an age to load - anyone else?

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 05/06/2022 12:30

Is anyone else finding that some pages are taking an age to load? And a message keeps appearing, something like "page taking ages, do you want to wait?"

It's only happening with mumsnet, no other sites.

Is there any chance of this actually ever being fixed? I still can only use the app on my phone, and even that barely works. Browser (chrome) just doesn't work at all.

AmaryIlis · 25/06/2022 17:32

Still incredibly slow.

HebeMumsnet · 27/06/2022 12:32

Morning, everyone. We think we've identified the problem here. We're working to locate the memory leak that looks likely to be causing this now. As soon as there's any update we'll let you know.

MrsReeves · 03/07/2022 10:13

Come on mumsnet! It's been a month since the downgrade upgrade and the site is still unusable 😔

butterflied · 04/07/2022 09:01

Still happening. Still annoying.

And still no progress a whole month after the thread was started.

It must be a bloody cushy job being on MNHQs tech team. I can't think of many other jobs where this lack of progress in fixing a major issue would be tolerated.

Just stepped back in after another 2 week break to see if it's better.
I can report that scrolling is a definite improvement, and I'm able to type properly - just need to see if it will post.

While I'm here though, I'll just mention that I still can't access my private messages - the link just takes me to messages I have sent with no way to find ones sent to me - but I've posted that on a different thread, so I'll mention it again on there.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 04/07/2022 13:19

I take it back - scrolling on long threads still sucks. Angry

MercurialMonday · 04/07/2022 20:35

I'm still having issues - typed one reply three times tonight as just before posting went to snap page - then I'm making mistakes with typing rushing - so it doesn't do it yet again.

LilyMumsnet · 04/07/2022 20:58

Sorry all - we're waiting on a fix for this but we will update as soon as we can.

AmaryIlis · 06/07/2022 20:30

Is there any progress at all? It really is SO painfully slow. It 's particularly noticeable on fast moving threads, of which there have been a few today.

It's been over a month since this thread was made. Do you have any idea how close we are to getting the issue fixed?

I understand issues take time to sort, but taking more than a month to fix something that has a huge impact on the usablity of the site is ridiculous.

We haven't got a time for release yet.

We understand that it's incredibly frustrating but this is a priority at the moment and as soon as we are able, will will update. Flowers

Hi @LilyMumsnet I know you've said you don't have a date for fixing this, but it is still really a problem.
If I leave a MN tab open and go to another tab on my chromebook, it crashes the laptop and I have to reboot. Long threads on MN hang both my chromebook and Android phone, and at night it takes ages to post a message, a couple of nights ago it took about 10 minutes which is crazy.

MinkyTunes · 10/07/2022 08:08

Following a suggestion further up the thread to limit number of messages per page, I've now changed to 100 messages, and it is so much faster/better.

From using 1.4gb memory and sometimes up to 200% CPU, the 100 replies a page is now only using 200mb of memory, and much less CPU.

So this is a temporary fix, but I'd really like to go back to having my 1000 messages per page as I did previously thanks!
