Page 11 | What is it with all these threads being deleted??

Every day now there seems to be a thread deleted on aibu - it's the only section I'm really on, but pretty much every day lately I'll see a thread, read it, then return to it later to get an update and it's been deleted. I've been on Mumsnet since 2009 and threads were rarely deleted until recently , this last year or so it seems to happen so much. Are more people just trying to troll or wind us up, or what's the reason behind this huge increase in deletions?

Can’t they be left on so people can read but to stop the thread from having more posts so eventually they move down but people can read if want to

@PAFMO I don't want to go in to much detail about it in case this thread ends up going the same way but it was a discussion about an interview with a Holocaust survivor.

This happened yesterday with the thread about the bigoted BIL in the restaurant. It was a shame as it was an interesting thread, but it was totally derailed by an argument about whether the OP was prejudiced against the North East 🙄

I'm not surprised that it was deleted then! The OP had clearly set out to goad posters with the assertion that the BIL was rude/racist/homophobic because he was from the North.

Their thread really wasn't about how rude he was - and it wasn't derailed when people took issue with it.

It was also over-egged and missing only the "and the whole restaurant cheered" nonsense.

I think instead of deleting the threads and comments and pretending they never happened we all need educating on why they are deleted so that we learn for next time. We are all adults I’m sure we can handle it….

I didn't get a deletion message for a thread I posted on today. Its not in I'm watching or I'm on menus. Just poof. Had a feeling others have gone too since the site update but this one I actually remember. Why can't I see any deletion messages but others can?

AIBU seems to attract the attention of bored housewives absolutely desperate to be able to be mean to someone and just want some entertainment rather than a genuinely helpful place to go. A great place for trolls to feast.

I'm glad MN is deleting them.

Odd that you've been here that long OP and don't remember the other points over the years when we've been inundated with trolls. I'm sure the rest of us do. It happens in waves.
