What is it with all these threads being deleted??

Every day now there seems to be a thread deleted on aibu - it's the only section I'm really on, but pretty much every day lately I'll see a thread, read it, then return to it later to get an update and it's been deleted. I've been on Mumsnet since 2009 and threads were rarely deleted until recently , this last year or so it seems to happen so much. Are more people just trying to troll or wind us up, or what's the reason behind this huge increase in deletions?

So if any of us have a thread deleted are we trolls? Are we fuck.

MN is more deletion happy these days because people get more triggered/offended these days.

And that's not 'troll defending' that's just true.

If I shared half the shit that's happened in my life some of you lot would call me a troll. Newsflash .. some people live different lives to you. So no, I don't think anyone can 'spot a troll from a mile off..'

JaneJeffer · 06/05/2022 13:16

There's a few threads in active at the moment that are obviously journalists looking for weekend filler. Lazy feckers.

BigDayToday · 07/05/2022 12:31

I've just seen a deletion with the following message:

"This thread has been deleted as the user is no longer on the site."

Is this usual? If I leave Mumsnet, will my entire posting history go, or only threads I've started? I've never seen this before.

DodgyKneesCyril · 07/05/2022 12:31

So the parking thread with with a builders van blocking the road has been deleted. I know a few posters were sceptical towards the end as she over egged it a bit (friend on his sister's pink bike speaking Spanish Confused).

But to make up the whole of it is just bizarre - all the conversations, the diagram and descriptions of her son's drama course etc .

All the lonely people, where do they all come from....

Do Spanish-speaking people not use their siblings bikes then? Confused And why does it being pink have anything to do with it? Confused

People on here are so messed up if even a person riding a bike is 'suspicious'. FMD!!

Inklingpot · 07/05/2022 13:31

The problem is that posters get over-invested in these threads - look at the sheer number of sycophantic posts egging on the builder parking OP and begging for updates.

‘Funniest thing ever on the internet’
’Your DS is amazing, let me meet him!’
’Crying with laughter here’

Then when it gets deleted, they post multiple threads asking what happened. I’ve even seen posters say they don’t care it was made up, they just want an update, FFS. No wonder trolls get a result on here.

Just logged in to see what's happening with threads I'm on and pfff! "This thread has been deleted as the user is no longer on the site."
Wtf has that got to do with anything? You start a thread, everyone tells you you're being unreasonable and so you flounce off - fine, but why does the thread ahve to be deleted?????
It's really, really, really annoying.

Not sure if you are asking me, or highlighting odd things from the thread

You seem to be over invested in defending trolls and their threads. Some are quite obviously made up and a tidy up is sometimes needed by mn. It's fine.

Not at all. My point is that I have rarely seen threads that actually do seem like they are made up. You seem overly naive.

I am saying that it is odd to think that the thread was made up because a Spanish speaker was riding a bike. You seem to think that is odd.

Why?

Exactly. I've been on many, many forums over the years and I have never seen a forum as delete-happy hair trigger reactionary as this site.

I don't believe any thread should be deleted unless it has racist or legally sensitive stuff. Unfortunately this forum has a hair-trigger Salem witch trial reactionary philosophy. Because some sheltered naive troll thinks something didn't happen they report the thread and get it deleted. No thread should ever be deleted unless it is racially or legally sensitive.

Well I'm not going to list ALL the reasons people thought it was made up fgs Hmm. That was one of many reasons people started calling troll (correctly as it happened).

As it is, I believed it till OP went OTT with things.

Where is the proof? Mumsnet delete many, many threads based on only witchhunt-like 'reports'. Don't make the mistake of thinking just because a thread was deleted that it was a 'troll'. Use some critical thinking.

DodgyKneesCyril · 07/05/2022 19:41

"where's the proof?" lol

We aren't in a court of law 😂😂

unwatching the thread now as your responses have made it go weird and you seem waaaaay overinvested in this

Lol. So you can't answer? You believe because people reported a thread and it was deleted that means it was made up?

You're very brainwashed and lack critical thinking. And the ability to defend your own position. 🙄

To quote you, earlier on this thread...the fact that you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Instead of defending scum you should perhaps buy a dictionary and look up the word naive.

PAFMO · 07/05/2022 20:05

@knittingaddict

It'd be funny if it weren't so weird, wouldn't it?

Poster: I believe everyone on the internet
Same poster: you're all the naive ones. Confused

Hawkins001 · 08/05/2022 00:02

I wonder sometimes if some threads get deleted , not because it's not real but either because it's controversial, or to many mumsnetters make a fuss over it, so it's easier to pull the thread etc

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/05/2022 07:21

CJsGoldfish · 04/05/2022 00:22

Because posters get their arse handed to them on a plate, so they ask MNHQ to delete it 'for privacy reasons' or similar
This happens ALL THE TIME. The OP doesn't like that the thread didn't go the way they expected it to so they pack up their toys. 🙄

Yep agree

many get taken down for privacy or causing distress to op in the real
world or as papers usually daily fail getting hold of it

tough. Posters post knowing that someone may read and think omg I know that person

No need to wonder, I had a post deleted back in November because a few people complained about it. I was annoyed that it was just deleted and I was not informed about that and only when I e mailed mnhq I was told they had pulled it because of a few complaints - mnhq are trigger happy with deleting threads, no doubt about it.

IIRC, and I may not be, one thread was deleted as it went into a total bun fight.

Man posted his OLD profile on here for some feedback. He was ripped to shreds. I assumed he was a troll but he was genuine apparently. Safer to take it down than let the car crash carry on.

Tis a balancing act at times, although a pickle when people get invested in helping with advice.
