What is it with all these threads being deleted??

Every day now there seems to be a thread deleted on aibu - it's the only section I'm really on, but pretty much every day lately I'll see a thread, read it, then return to it later to get an update and it's been deleted. I've been on Mumsnet since 2009 and threads were rarely deleted until recently , this last year or so it seems to happen so much. Are more people just trying to troll or wind us up, or what's the reason behind this huge increase in deletions?

I guess the demographics and sensibilities have changed.

mycatisannoying · 03/05/2022 22:17

You're right, there were so many! I assumed trolls, as the thread titles seemed deliberately contentious/pervy.

TaranThePigKeeper · 03/05/2022 22:17

Increased incidences of 1) trolling, and 2) assholery. There’s definitely something in the air. I seem to pick them every time. It’s annoying when you’ve spent the time offering genuine advice, but I start from the premise now that there’s every chance that any thread won’t be what it appears to be.

Fubla72 · 03/05/2022 22:18

Annoying isn’t it, I was enjoying the McDonald’s one and wanted an update on the one about the horrid friend but gone!

MichelleScarn · 03/05/2022 22:19

It's frequently throughout the day now, so whenever I go on break I'll lose at least one post, I'm getting better at spotting them, usually a high emotive drama, with op in high victimhood, oft with a sockpuppet coming on to fight their corner or tell people to #bekind 🙄😑

vipersnest1 · 03/05/2022 22:22

Because posters get their arse handed to them on a plate, so they ask MNHQ to delete it 'for privacy reasons' or similar.
Because some posters get carried away on pile on unnecessarily, purely because it's AIBU.
And what PP said.

Lilifer · 03/05/2022 22:23

It's so weird though because a lot of the time the threads seem fairly normal - they must kick off after I log off and by the time I get back on they're deleted - in this case it was the adopted child's sibling aibu and I only saw the first 6 of 7 posts, then clicked back on to it an hour later and it was gone! 🤨

One about tomato ketchup got deleted, for heaven's sake.

BIWI · 03/05/2022 22:29

AIBU is a haven for trolls. Why not try reading other topics on MN instead? There's a wealth of stuff that isn't so infested.

ScrambledSmegs · 03/05/2022 22:30

Weren't the ketchup and McDonald's threads were started by the same poster? I drew conclusions, I admit.

... because that was someone trolling as a goady fucker to wind people up.

BIWI · 03/05/2022 22:32

I wish people would engage critical thinking when reading posts and stop being so naive and gullible.

bellac11 · 03/05/2022 22:35

I dont believe half of what I read on here, the one about the teachere and the haircut was made up I believe.

LondonQueen · 03/05/2022 22:37

MNHQ seem to be deleting absolutely everything at the moment. We don't seem to get an update before, like they're a banned user etc but just a generic thread deleted.

Because I've enjoyed Aibu for 13 years now and don't see why I should stop just because threads are getting deleted, I'm just here to comment that I notice a massive increase in deleted threads and I find that an interesting development.

They're scared of losing their advertisers so they delete anything that might appear to he controversial.

RausageSoul · 03/05/2022 22:41

The 4D number plates one was a hoot, with posters explaining what the 4th dimension was and others accusing them of sheer jealousy

I suspect you might be right there 🤔

Be not he.

CarrieCookie · 03/05/2022 22:42

I was gutted when the 4D number plate one was deleted. I was just beginning to learn stuff about particle physics and quantum mechanics 🤣

Watermelon44 · 03/05/2022 22:50

If it’s entertaining who cares if it’s true or not, or who cares if it’s a troll or not.

Realistically loads of threads are probably exaggerated but no one is hurt by them as everything is anonymous.

Hawkins001 · 03/05/2022 22:59

I missed the ketchup one, what was it referring to ?

ouch321 · 03/05/2022 23:05

I think they should remove AIBU from the forum completely as everyone just dumps threads in there like it's a garage or the loft.

And then either they'll say, "Posting for traffic blahblah"

Or they'll amusingly try and phrase it as an AIBU eg "Am I unreasonable to say that the Nike website is not loading right now?"

Clearly the site isn't working as it should be if people deliberately post threads in the wrong place.

UniversalAunt · 03/05/2022 23:08

In month of April, seven of the just-over 70 posts I have commented on have been closed down, so 10% attrition rate. Does dampen my jump-up responses & i find it makes AIBU dull & purposeless, so I am wandering off.

Granted a few have been a punch up, but we are adults here & can take a bit of the rough along with the smooth jazz that is MN. The odd troll at our expense here at the Vipers Nest is a larf worth having.

Recognisable from your own post? We’re all Missus Spartacus here.

I hope this phase of hyper triggered posters soon abates otherwise the interesting posts & dilemmas will hang & wither on the vine through lack of response & argy-bargy*.

*Apologies to any readers triggered by inference of anything vaguely of the South Atlantic & Latin American stuff 😉

It's not just AIBU though, I don't tend to post in that topic very much and yet in the past few days I am on three threads which have been deleted - one in Legal and two in Chat. It's definitely increased hugely - and it's getting really boring.
