Mumsnet Talk re-platforming - Known issues update

JustineMumsnet · 21/04/2022 14:44

Hi all,
As you probably know we re-plaftormed the site overnight on Tuesday (in order to move to a faster, more stable and secure site which would be easier to develop new features on). There are a number of issues and bugs as a result of the move that we are working through and we thought it would be a good idea to list them on a page which we can keep updated as we sort through the problems. You can find that page here.

Mumsnet is a very large, complicated and old site - we've been working on re-platforming for the best part of 3 years - so it's not a huge surprise there are some bugs but please be assured we are working our way through them will get to them all as soon as we possibly can. In the meantime I do apologise for any inconvenience and frustration - I know it's been a painful day and a half for some.

Thank you to all those who've fed back and are helping us solve the remaining issues - it's really much appreciated Flowers.

The fact the clicking on a post in “notifications” STILL takes me back to page 1 of that thread is beyond irritating.

the site is still slow - slow loading thread titles on various boards. Slow scrolling through threads and boards (and sometimes “jumps” back up the page).

still keep losing posts midway through typing.

and obviously the “start a paragraph with a capital letter” hasn’t been fixed either.

they do seem to be on the ball with deleting threads with joyous abandon 🤣

Whinge · 04/05/2022 07:16

Do we have another update on when these issues will be fixed / what MN tech team are working on?

It's hard to check since they removed the MN have commented on this thread feature, but I think the last update was from Justine on the 27/04.

Halsall · 04/05/2022 08:24

I know I keep going on about bookmarks but they’re STILL not working properly.

If I’ve posted on a thread, I simply keep being returned to a random point somewhere near where one of my OWN posts was. It doesn’t matter how much I bookmark the last post on the thread, it WILL NOT return me to that bookmark. It also seems to ignore any LATER posts I’ve made. As the thread gets longer and longer (I follow several very lengthy ones), I spend an age having to scroll back to the point where I actually stopped reading. It’s driving me crazy now.

I'm on an iPad, using safari, latest IOS. Desktop version, not the app.

(And yes, the site is painfully slow. When you click on 'post' there’s an agonising delay of several seconds before it decides to do anything; I’ve finally learned not to keep re-clicking and just wait)

SpindleInTheWind · 04/05/2022 10:01

It's very glitchy today, both on my iPhone and my laptop, so it's definitely MN. I'm looking at other websites ok.

Slow to load, some links to threads won't load at all, we've got the 'Oops' message message back when trying to post, then multiple postings appear.

Just so SLOW.

MNettersForNoahAndFiona · 04/05/2022 10:35

Yes, MN is very hard work yet again this morning.

So very slow, my username disappearing from the box and told to create a new one when posting, the error messages, Threads I'm On not working again.

This thread taking up to 10 posts to appear in Active:
www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4537366-aibu-to-want-to-know-the-truth-about-this

It all becomes too time-consuming, frustrating and drives you off the site much more quickly.

prettybird · 04/05/2022 11:14

It would be interesting to know their traffic flow and post count since the "upgrade" Hmm

I hope they're getting their money back/some heads will roll from those that implemented it Hmm

Agree. I'm willing to bet both are down substantially.

TheChurchOfEli · 04/05/2022 11:54

The bugs are tedious. “See next” now not working properly on some posts. Either taking you to the OP or the same post, rather than then next post by OP. Are there web team even trained?

Tagliatellme · 04/05/2022 12:03

I was prepared to wait for the bugs to be ironed out, but it really is tedious now. The thing that irritated me more than anything is the amount of wasted space. I use the site so much less now, who eats to scroll past whole blank screens or whole pages of adverts?

Interestingly, my post posted then despite still showing the preview screen!

SpindleInTheWind · 04/05/2022 12:34

It's been two bloody weeks now.

BertieBotts · 04/05/2022 16:45

The missing scroll bar issue has been happening loads for me today. There doesn't seem much point in me sending a URL though because it comes back if I refresh the page. But it's weird that it wouldn't load in the first place.

kitchenfitting · 04/05/2022 21:40

Is anyone from MN updating us on anything and if so where? Thanks

MatildaJayne · 04/05/2022 21:43

A positive! My missing watched threads have finally reappeared.

VestofAbsurdity · 04/05/2022 22:09

Exactly when is the issue with images going to be sorted out? Still got miniscule and blurry images that cannot be enlarged to make them readable on a laptop plus it seems other images are being posted sideways.

Come on MN you've had long enough to do this and surely these bugs didn't just magically appear, surely you tested beforehand?

@kitchenfitting
In the first post Justine linked to this page. It's currently down, but I'm sure it'll be back up in a few hours.

It doesn't fill me with confidence that the page created to share how the fixes are going is broken. 🤦🏼‍♀️

That strong cuppa message is so bloody annoying, I can't remember seeing it before the update but now it's everywhere.

The page has been down for a few days now Hmm

KimMumsnet · 05/05/2022 10:27

Good morning.
This page has lots of information on where we're at with the issues caused by the platform upgrade:
www.mumsnet.com/articles/talk-updates

We seem to be able to open that page, so could those of you who can't open it let us know which device you're using, and which browser? Thank you.

TrashyPanda · 05/05/2022 10:41

That page hasn’t been updated since 26 April.
has there been no further progress?

Tagliatellme · 05/05/2022 10:43

Kim, there seems to be other issues not listed there - for example the issues with images being misshapen and/or blurry. Also the multiple blank lines as in the attached image. Thanks

beastlyslumber · 05/05/2022 10:43

Ugh. Just come back after a few days, hoping that things work now. Notifications still take me to start of thread (I guess it's an improvement on when they didn't work at all). Images still borked. Little arrows still have to be clicked. Still shonky af.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/05/2022 10:50

I can open the link

but wow what a list of things to fix/have been

but why did you change things, it was fine before

i don’t use the mn app. Have never liked it

i know a lot of glitches on there are sorted but I can’t get on with ithe app

so I use via safari or chrome. Most things have been sorted

but it’s still sooooooooooooo slow to load when click on new thread to read

tho I miss desktop. I will always mourn that view

and other @JustineMumsnet is I miss not seeing how many new replies are on a thread, rather then Total of replies

with new if o I know no more or say 4/5 then a few but when says the large number I don’t know if I have read the latest so have to click on the post, which can take 30 seconds to losd

yes I’ve counted

00100001 · 05/05/2022 12:24

aww, why is the inability to delete emojis on android chrome not listed?
