Format change

Hi, my format has changed where before it was an old style where I could just see the last few threads but now when I click on what I'm on, it's showing me everything.

When I came on mumsnet today, it forced me to login again and then the format has changed. How can I go back to the original? I'm on an android phone.

Argh

I have the thread started by username and date thread started columns showing when I browse the talk boards but now they're gone.

it's so handy for spotting zombie threads ~and ones started in bad faith on FWR~

help!

emuloc · 20/04/2022 10:00

Really dislike this new format. It is full of adverts in the middle. It is really putting me off. Can the adverts be hidden?

emuloc · 20/04/2022 10:01

As other posters have said, if its not broke, don't fix it!!

Seeline · 20/04/2022 10:06

Another one with serious pulling on the eyes and a headache - I've only read this thread!!

Oh and I always post on the desktop site using Control&enter - that function seems to have vanished!

JasmineTeacup · 20/04/2022 10:08

I'm on the iOS app and I'm still able to read all of the couple of deleted threads I had in Watching. Which is fun Grin

butterflymum · 20/04/2022 10:11

@KatyMumsnet

A couple of issues to check, thanks:

Gap of four or five lines before first thread in Topic and number indicating PM waiting for me, even though only PMs are old ones. Number remains even after visiting PMs again.

eurgh. I don’t like this new layout. It’s awful.

Arianya · 20/04/2022 10:18

In Watching I used to be able to click on the text summary of the post and open the thread at that post. But the text is not clickable any more. Now I have to click a tiny arrow to the right of the text, which is much harder to press because I have a disability that affects my hands.

WhenDovesFly · 20/04/2022 10:18

Hating it so far. However, I was looking for a way to wean myself off of MN so looks like you've done it for me! Things I'm not liking are:

  • No 'First' or 'Last' page options
  • There's no distinction (bold/not bold) between threads I've read or not read
  • If I post on a thread it's green, the same colour as the OP's post, rather than pink
  • I used to view Active/Last Hour and the threads subjects would be in alphabetical order eg AIBU, Conception, Feminism, Property, Relationships etc. Now they're all higgeldy piggeldy mixed up.
Rinoachicken · 20/04/2022 10:24

It reminds me of blogging sites from a decade ago, like tumblr etc.

Do y hate it, but not loving it either. It’s very ‘white’ and all just seems to merge into itself so one huge white page with loads of black text

MeanderingGently · 20/04/2022 10:30

Surely I'm not the only one who hates this change?? The site now looks terrible and no longer readable, I have been fine with previous changes in the past but this is dreadful. I shan't be using the site nor be reading as much now, it's not so easy to navigate, thing are highlighted in a peculiar way, it doesn't load as well on my laptop, I can't easily skim through a long thread with loads of pages....I could go on but I won't bother. Just awful, not a fan.

Thisisit2022 · 20/04/2022 10:33

When I have a red dot to indicate there have been updates on threads I've posted on I used to go to notifications then right click on each one that had a red dot to open in a new tab. I don't usually have a lot of spare time so this made it easy to catch up in a small window...now it's far too faffy. I think I too will be giving up being a regular use at least.

thereisonlyoneofme · 20/04/2022 10:37

Its as if everything is in double spacing on my pc ,hate it. takes up too much room,

Sarahcoggles · 20/04/2022 10:37

I've always had the OP's posts and my posts highlighted in lavender and green, which is still happening, but the colours are much paler now. So pale that they're barely discernible as colours.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 20/04/2022 10:37

Trying to post on threads, it’s showing me an error when I try to add an emoji
also the page is shifting around on my browser (safari) I’m not on the app
sigh

Stravaig · 20/04/2022 10:38

The Refresh button on the Trending sidebar has moved. Never ever ever mess with muscle memory unless you have a extremely good reason for it. Why separate one action button from the others? I now have to shift hand position and unlearn a habitual action.

Fishwishy · 20/04/2022 10:38

It seems ok to me. Change happens and not everyone will be pleased all the time.

RockaLock · 20/04/2022 10:39

Using the iOS app: bookmarks aren't working any more. It lets me set a bookmark, but the next time I open the thread it's back to the OP again.

Very irritating!

CaptaNoctem · 20/04/2022 10:45

Oh god it's bright.

Snozzlemaid · 20/04/2022 10:51

I couldn't bookmark or post anything so I've just deleted the app and installed it again. Seems to be better now.

Halsall · 20/04/2022 10:51

Reporting back after using it a bit. My colour scheme for OPs and my own posts seem to have been preserved so that’s good.

But the adverts - SO MANY. Surely more than before? I use an ad blocker so I just get a greyed-out box, but because the new format is so much more spaced out and there are so many ads, I’m just scrolling constantly on my phone in order to read a very few posts.

AnImaginaryCat · 20/04/2022 10:57

Fishwishy · 20/04/2022 10:38

Same here. In fact it seems like it might be more accessible. Text is in fact bigger and clearer for me.

Only two things I'm not loving is the fact that the OP appears on top of every page of a thread. (Like it did years ago, but it then was auto collapsed) and the fact there's no "first page" or "last page" in long threads.

It seems likely that the issues some are finding depend on how you access MN. (I use Chrome on an Android phone - everything fully updated.) Not exactly rocket science my figuring our that, there's been messages on the boards telling us ro update for this, for ages!!

debwong · 20/04/2022 10:58

Stravaig · 20/04/2022 08:36

Goes off to scream silently into the abyss. I'd an internet old-timer. I researched web design back when there nothing here and we had to work our arses off to coax people to even look at a screen or touch a mouse. There is so much piss-poor pre-packaged design around these days, with no thought whatsoever given to a seamless or graceful or intuitive user experience. No science of attention or feedback or usability is applied. It gets worse and worse, so much less done with vastly more power. Screams some more.

It sounds like you know what you're talking about. You would be doing us all a favour if you could message MNHQ with some informed criticisms and recommendations.

I usually enjoy MN but if I can't go straight to unread posts in a watched thread I can see me spending much less time here.

Furries · 20/04/2022 11:00

Stravaig · 20/04/2022 08:42

Notifications are dumping me at the very beginning of a thread, not at the first unread posts. No, I am not going to use 'Flip'. Ever.

This. Was blooming annoying trying to find where I’d last read up to an a couple of threads this morning.
