First crack at a new quote feature - please check it out

Hi all,
We've released a new quote feature (finally you might say). I've attached some screenshots to show you where it's housed on site. Please give it a go so we can check it's working ok for all and across devices. We've taken the decision not to include threading for now - both because it would have been a lot more dev time and because it can affect the flow of conversations but this is something we can revisit in time if folks prefer. Please do let us know what you think/ further improvements etc. Big thanks.

You can’t quote a post with a quote and a comment.

And I want a like button. I also want the following buttons:

For f*s’ sake
You are talking crap
I think I love you

Qwerty543 · 26/05/2020 20:55

Still no response on whether this is just for premium subscribers or not. Bit poor MNHQ.

LemonRedwood · 26/05/2020 21:10

Why is this such a limited quote function? Such as the quote being locked to the top of the post, no quoting parts of posts and not being able to quote multiple posts in one reply?

We know these things are possible because the MN mods are able to do them.

Ajollygoodwrap · 26/05/2020 21:18

there's being in the dark ages

I really enjoy the dark. Not everyone wants to come into the light. Leave us vampires here please. Why try to modernise a site when there are other "much better" already modernised sites? We like it this way, thanks.

00100001 · 26/05/2020 21:20

@MNHQ - will this only be for premium members in the end?

Yup.

Veronicat · 26/05/2020 22:15

Its really no different from the normal copy and paste tbh and at least with copy and paste you can snip which bits you want.

Dead2me · 26/05/2020 22:19

Not seeing this option in mobile

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 26/05/2020 22:19

I'm a bit baffled too, like Veronicat said - c&p seems to be easier under these circs? Other sites I use you can edit, not to change meaning but to quote the relevant bits you want to reply to.

AfterSchoolWorry · 26/05/2020 22:22

@00100001

Oh, I see, yes.

having it only appear on posts without a quote in it makes it look broken... :/

Great 👍

No 'quote' is unequivocally for everyone. We're planning on soon releasing a feature allowing filtering posts by OP and username. OP will be for all, username for Premium members only. thanks for the question.

@Dead2me
Press the three little dots in the post, it's in there.

BUT you can only quote when there's no quote in the post

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/05/2020 08:09

I've been thinking about this, as well as quoting an excerpt of a post, to be useful we also need to be able to use multiple quotes (from one or more posts) in our own post. And, obviously be able to type where we want around the post.

BIWI · 27/05/2020 08:12

This is great. For me, it makes running Bootcamp so much easier to respond to posters' questions.

However, like other PP, I'd really like to be able to quote specific lines or paragraphs, so if that could be introduced it would be even better.

But please - no threading or like buttons!

If posters like @HopeYouStepOnALego prefer a particular style, why don't they go back to Mums.chat?

BIWI · 27/05/2020 08:14

@BIWI

This post has been hidden until the MNHQ team can have a look at it.
Please explain why/how my post broke Talk Guidelines @MNHQ
HopeMumsnet · 27/05/2020 08:30

It was just hidden until we could take a look at it, BIWI, don't worry, you did nothing wrong. We get bits and bobs flagged up automatically.
Glad the feature will be useful for Bootcamp (which we could certainly do with at the moment because eating shortbread for breakfast is less than ideal. )

JaneJeffer · 27/05/2020 10:11

I haven't RTFT but why do the quotation marks have to be so ginormous?

JaneJeffer · 27/05/2020 10:15

This is what they look like in the app. Headache inducing if you're just scrolling through a thread with loads of them.

B1rdbra1n · 27/05/2020 11:45

I am very pleased to see this feature😊
but we also need to be able to edit the quote!
