The deletion of the Upfield thread on AIBU

PencilsInSpace · 11/10/2019 22:05

Deletion message: Hi all, as there is already an active thread about this subject on the Feminism boards we're going to close this one.

I don't understand or agree with this decision.

  1. people often start threads on the same subject on different boards - is it a new rule that there can only be one?

  2. Lots of posters hide FWR so might not know what has happened

  3. Upfield made their insinuations against all of MN, not just FWR

Can you say a bit more about your decision please?

And you didn't close it you deleted it.

Woah Mumsnet. Really bad look here. AIBU gets a shit ton more traffic and this is all over social media you are forcing poor mumsnetters to view the Feminism board which a lot of folk are nervous about because of shit like this accusation of being a hate site

Oh.....Is this a sneaky plan?

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 11/10/2019 22:12

I agree with pencils

I do NOT understand the reasoning behind this decision

BarbaraStrozzi · 11/10/2019 22:14

Another one baffled by your decision.

As OP says, it's not just FWR that's been singled out in Upfield's tweet, it's the whole of MN. The whole of your business. So AIBU is a highly appropriate place to discuss this. (If only to give posters who don't agree with the general tenor of FWR a chance to say "not in my name - most of MN doesn't share the opinions of the FWR regulars": I personally may think they are wrong, but they have every right to express their opinion.)

Somerville · 11/10/2019 22:16

Mumsnet Flora was a top 20 UK trend on Twitter this evening, and you’re not allowing two threads on it?
Sorry HQ but that’s bizarre.

I’ve been following discussion of what the possible new deal between EU and UK could be on two different threads all day. Are you closing one of those too?

TheAlternativeTentacle · 11/10/2019 22:16

Does this mean, only one Megan M thread now?

Phew.

HumberElla · 11/10/2019 22:18

Agree. Odd decision. Is the ‘current topics appearing in more than one thread’ thing a new rule now?

BarbaraStrozzi · 11/10/2019 22:19

Alternative for a moment I read Megan M and thought "what, there are loads of threads about Megan Murphy on here? Brilliant..." Then I realised my mistake.

starlingsintheslipstream · 11/10/2019 22:20

Yeah, pretty disappointing MNHQ.

cometothinkofit · 11/10/2019 22:28

I avoid the feminism boards like the plague (and I'm sure I'm not the only one by a long shot), so I sure as hell won't be going on there to read it.

Disappointing decision MNHQ.

Samcro · 11/10/2019 22:29

how odd. I Don't go in to FWR so would not have seen a different thread there. is this a knew thing as there are numerous threads on the same subject..... an instance is the diplomatic immunity. there were at least 2 threads running on that. as PP said numerous MM threads and lets not forget brexit. odd that this is the one zapped.

Samcro · 11/10/2019 22:29

(new not knew)

GooseFeather · 11/10/2019 22:32

Why the one in AIBU (the most frequently visited topic) rather than FWR (the most frequently hidden topic)?

When was a rule introduced to say no more than one thread per subject?

tilder · 11/10/2019 22:34

I agree. Really odd decision.

LangCleg · 11/10/2019 22:52

FWR is the pest house now then, is it? The leper colony?

WorraLiberty · 11/10/2019 22:57

Are you fairly new to MN LangCleg?

It's always been a fairly widely hidden/avoided topic for many MNetters.

Cohle · 11/10/2019 23:00

This seems pretty inconsistent with your normal practice MNHQ.

Lots of us avoid FWR these days.

Samcro · 11/10/2019 23:02

it would be nice though......imagine it (((dreams)))
only one thread allowed about bad MIL's. only one allowed about Cf'ers and so on.........

LangCleg · 11/10/2019 23:03

Are you fairly new to MN LangCleg?

I didn't mean MNers hiding FWR. I meant MNHQ trying to quarantine it off.

Sorry - multitasking, wasn't clear. Not digging at any MNer who wants to hide it.

Site should be user led. So if FWR and AIBU regulars both want to discuss a topic in their own ways, with their own sub-communities, they should be allowed.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 11/10/2019 23:03

I agree samcro

Only one brexit thread at a time

WorraLiberty · 11/10/2019 23:04

Ahh I see, sorry.

Now I've read it again, it did actually make sense Blush

SarahTancredi · 11/10/2019 23:04

FWR is the pest house now then, is it? The leper colony?

Ignorance Is bliss I guess.

No one minds reaping the benefits from everything feminists fight for though do they.

Shame on you HQ.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 11/10/2019 23:05

God everyone is being very polite and apologetic

It’s unnerving

LangCleg · 11/10/2019 23:23

I hope you don't mean MOI, Rufus? I can swear like usual if you like? Here you go:

SHITFUCKPISSWANKCUNTANDBOLLOCKSWHATASHITGIBBONDECISION

Better?!

SquirrelsInJune · 11/10/2019 23:36

It's a really odd decision.

If there's a new one-thread-per-topic rule, I should point out that MNers have had the audacity to start two separate threads about Graham Norton. They're both in Active Conversations right now and they're in separate topics! Shock

Go get 'em!
