Is this something MN does now!?

If you have our address because we signed up to a competition or something, are we to assume that 'concerned' posters can talk you in to instigating police welfare checks?

Where does it stop?

Do unorthodox lifestyle decisions get reported too?

Maybe there should be an opt in? Like please don't send the police round if I'm having a bad day?

Given recent events about my own personal safety, it would be reassuring to know exactly what info MN is processing/passing on to others.

While I am sure the OP of this thread is acting genuinely, it's not a million miles away from swatting via MNHQ.

What do MN do though? If someone is in danger, ignoring it protects their privacy
but not their life. If they do nothing and a situation goes seriously wrong, would MN be held partly responsible?
Are there policies from MNHQ regarding what they are and are not allowed to contact the police for? So if a life is in danger, yes but for no other reason.

If there are compelling safeguarding considerations, we may share your data with public authorities without your permission. We understand 'compelling safeguarding considerations' to mean credible evidence of imminent risk of serious harm, especially to a child or vulnerable person.

It isn’t the role or responsibility of an internet chat site to intervene in this way. There’s no way of knowing if the posters are genuine and if they are, we as anonymous internet users have no way of knowing their history (socially or medically). It would be unethical for medical or social care professionals to get involved ‘remotely’ based on a thread on the ‘net and MN have no way of knowing whether those purporting to be registered professionals actually are.

MN would be very unwise to go down this road. It probably opens up all kinds of legal sinkholes for them.

I've often felt this is the only place I can come for advice when feeling low. You've taken that from us MN.

We were encouraging him to seek real life help. You had no right to meddle in his life. This forum is not what it used to be. I shall be seeking somewhere else. I'm absolutely disgusted by this.

I suppose it depends on what constitutes ‘compelling’ and how they can prove it or distinguish between genuine ‘safeguarding concerns’, out and out trolling, or over-exaggeration of a genuine story?
