Hello, you. Well, 2017 has been a corker of a year for Talk threads at Mumsnet. The constant flurry of brilliant threads you've posted on the boards has kept us enthralled all year. We've laughed, we've cried, we've sat, mouths agape, while our tea went cold as we followed your stories.

Mumsnetters never fail to delight with their wit, wisdom, endless support and clever rhetoric and this year we'd like to celebrate that.

Just to nudge the memory banks we thought we'd share these two beauties from Mumsnet Classics.

Help. Epic hotel choice failure - the one where two esteemed Mumsnetters discovered each other, at the same dire hotel, via this thread, and later painted the town red.

My foof is buzzing- the one with the sentences you never thought you'd write (as well as vaginas with the voice of Brian Blessed and discussion of Banjo Fanjo Syndrome in the 'lady of a certain age').

Those were just a couple of our favourites but we would love to hear about the threads you loved most this year. Please post a link below and tell us a bit about why the thread in question was one that stands out for you.

They don't have to be funny - we're also looking for threads that were tear-jerkers, had happy endings, kept you scrolling into the small hours or were just plain lovely.

You can pluck your nominations from any topic but here are the categories we've come up with so far - if you think we've missed a category, please do feel free to suggest one of your own. Before anyone asks - we're afraid we won't be handing out mugs for any troll threads (nope, not even the ones that were a tiny bit funny). We can't have MNHQ mugs in hairy hands - perish the thought:

Cheeky Fucker thread of the year
Best AIBU
Feel-good thread of the year
Most outrageous thread of the year
Most nostalgic thread of the year
Most memorable moment of the year
Outstanding moment of Mumsnetter kindness on a thread

We can't wait to hear your nominations. We will have a scrat in the office cupboard and dig out some (much coveted) MNHQ mugs for each winning OP (or significant poster) of a Thread of the Year. And to show our appreciation we'll also find something else lovely from our Magic Cupboard for a selection of lucky people drawn at random who post on this thread to make a nomination. .

I'm am really enjoying the fact that the original suggestions from MNHQ were all fluffy, amusing tosh and instead we have loads of people nominating politics and feminism threads. This is what really constitutes the best of Mumsnet and celebrates it as one of the rare female dominated spaces where we can openly discuss things like Brexit, Trump and gender issues.

Violetparis · 26/12/2017 18:39

The Westminsterenders threads for me too, with a big thank you to Redtoothbrush and all the other intelligent, informed contributors on it.

And if there's one thing that's scuppering being a mum, it's surely trumpbrexit.

Late contender for most outrageous thread of the year - OP (who never returns to the thread) finds a lipstick in the washing machine and doesn’t know how it got there. Instead of cues of LTB, get your ducks in a row, check his emails etc, the thread moves into the weird and wonderful world of shells, glass and more emerging from the body. Not to be missed.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 26/12/2017 21:41

That's a late entry, but definitely a contender.

KiteMarked · 26/12/2017 21:46

I third that nomination!

ConjugalHoliday · 26/12/2017 21:46

Yes to lipstick in the washing machine thread!

Lweji · 26/12/2017 21:48

Definitely the most outrageous. Grin

ShirleyPhallus · 26/12/2017 21:48

Aridane

Agree with the lipstick in the washing machine thread!!

IheartCaptainHolt · 26/12/2017 21:49

Another vote for the lipstick thread! It's bloody brilliant!

chequeplease · 26/12/2017 21:54

Another vote for lipstick thread. It's totally made Christmas for me (although I won't be saying this to my family and friends...) 🎄💄🕷

woman11017 · 26/12/2017 23:10

Another vote here for HelenDove excellent on HA and Grenfell. Kind and knowledgeable.

Votes for:

RedToothBrush and her series of Westministenders threads: a haven of reasoned discussion, interesting links and the odd recipes and gardening tips when we need to see off Bots Xmas Wink

WoollyHugs - obvious why. The best of MN Xmas Smile

The two Parisiennes threads (currently Les Parisiennes de Mamansnet - Thread Deux ) are lovely and positive, thanks to TossDaily who started the threads and to the fabulous contributions from Botemp. They have inspired me to try bright red lipstick and to subtly change my dress style, using things I already have, to look and feel better about myself.

HesterThrale · 27/12/2017 11:14

Vote for the Westministenders threads started by Red. They've been going consistently for 18 months now; full of intelligent insights from posters who have varied knowledge and expertise, generally Brexit/ politics-related. They're a good-natured forum for exchanging views and information. I've learnt a lot from them.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 27/12/2017 15:23

I also vote for His Little Shirt thread! Where are you, Dawn Doctor?Grin

GreyMorning · 27/12/2017 22:37

It's got to be the epic cheeky fucker builder threads with SpanGran, Watty and the trello board!!!

Yes! This one.

(Has there been a recent update? Did the CFN ever return? Has the building been put back together...?)

purplebunny2012 · 28/12/2017 19:49

Lipstick in the washing machine!

ScottishProf · 28/12/2017 21:04

Lipstick in washing machine thread (to which OP did very satisfyingly return). Better than the CF threads because, being comprised of many stories from many people, it doesn't carry the lurking question of whether it was real.

Butterymuffin · 28/12/2017 21:13

Westminstenders threads - thank you so much RedToothbrush. Also the Feminist section in general.

Bigly Yes, I agree. The Westminstenders threads have been mentioned loads now but I bet it will end up being 'hilarious' CF type threads that are named as winners..

Unescorted · 28/12/2017 22:12

Redtoothbrush and the Westminster threads for me. I lurk but can't comment too often b/c it would be career limiting. Keep up the good work 😁

ApocalypseNowt · 29/12/2017 09:19

Lipstick in the washing machine was epic.

I also enjoyed the thread where MNers were attempting to decipher a scrawled Christmas card. Hilarious!

And another nomination for Datun. I always follow The feminism threads but rarely post cos I find it hard to kept up and am a bit dim.
