Problem with read threads not changing colour...

Ok MN, so now you've fixed the problem with bookmarking Grin. For some time now, when I've read a thread, it temporarily changes colour, to show I've read it, then will change back to 'unread colour' at some point and then I'm reading a thread again that I'm not interested in because the title wasn't memorable enough for me to remember. First world problem, I know.... I'm using Chrome on laptop.

It's done it in the app for me ever since I downloaded it, which was last January. I've updated the app, removed and reinstalled... doesn't make a difference. ☹️

mummabubs · 01/02/2018 08:20

For example: None of these have new unread posts in them...

Hey guys, thanks for raising the issue with the app, we'll look into it!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 01/02/2018 20:02

Not just the app Tim.

No definitely not just the app please note MNHQ

OlympicBonfire · 09/02/2018 17:14

Any update on this please MNHQ ?

mummabubs · 09/02/2018 19:19

And it's just done it again for me in the app. So frustrating!!! :(

Hi SpongeBob,

Well, this is a merry old dance, isn't it?! Sad

This is my understanding of what you're telling us (and have been telling us since October)

  1. You're using the Chrome browser on the desktop site.
  1. When you've read a thread, it used to be the case that it would change colour (so you'd know that you'd read it).
  1. This was a handy feature, and it pleased you mightily.
  1. Since October, it seems that the colour change function has stopped working. Not every single time, but enough times to be annoying.
  1. This means that you often end up reading the same thread again. Which is a waste of your time (especially if the thread was a dull one in the first place).
  1. Our Tech team have suggested various reasons for this.
  1. You (and many others) have quashed said reasons. And made it clear that NO, YOU'RE NOT USING PRIVATE BROWSING.
  1. And also, NO, YOU'RE NOT SWITCHING BROWSERS.
  1. And also, NO, YOU HAVEN'T DELETED YOUR BROWSING HISTORY.
  1. And what's more, it's happening even when there are NO NEW (UNREAD) POSTS ON A THREAD.

  2. It happens on both 'Threads I'm On' and 'Threads I'm Watching' lists.

  3. It's happening on a multitude of browsers - Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Explorer, you name it...

  4. It happens on the App IN ADDITION to the desktop site. And has done since early last year, despite updates, reinstalling the app, etc.

  5. It's really, really, really annoying.

Does that about cover it, @SpongeBobJudgeyPants ?

If so, what can I say? Except sorry! And that I'll get this laminated and sent over to Tech right now. Smile

Bluedoglead · 10/02/2018 20:21

Ehhhh. Dawn.

Me too.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 10/02/2018 22:22

Yes Dawn, that's about it. I would say it was all the time now though, giving me no relief from my first world problem. It also happens on Internet Explorer for me.

Oh lordy, it's even worse than I thought, then...

mummabubs · 11/02/2018 08:04

It's not all the time on the app in my experience but as you say Dawn... enough times to be annoying!

OlympicBonfire · 11/02/2018 13:05

Not all the time for me either but enough to be annoying and has seemed worse in the last few days for some reason ?

TraceyTech · 13/02/2018 11:08

Hi there,

Is this definitely happening on the same day? so you will view/post on a thread and that same day the thread will reset to unvisited?

Tracey

OlympicBonfire · 13/02/2018 16:29

Yes Tracey on the same day

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 13/02/2018 19:44

Same day.

OP posts:
SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 13/02/2018 20:24

I don't know if this is going to help, or just make the ishoo more complicated. But there are threads from Chat and S & B that are indicating I have read them, and I have, some time ago. Other boards don't seem to hold the colour change? I clicked on Trending threads, and threads I have read from there today aren't showing as read in active at all, so they have never changed.

OP posts:
mummabubs · 13/02/2018 20:48

Yup, same day in the app too.

NinaMarieP · 13/02/2018 22:01

This drives me mad.

Randomly, in the app, ALL watched and I'm on threads will go back to white (indicating new posts) and I'll spend 5-10 minutes opening them all to a) check and b) turn them purple again.

Possibly related is that I hide older threads that I'm on but no longer interested in and yet they keep reappearing on the list?

DawnMumsnet · 16/02/2018 19:50

Thanks Spongebob , Olympic and mummabubs. And NinaMarieP - I've flagged your post to our Tech team in case it helps with the investigation.

Can only apologise (again) that this issue still hasn't been resolved. If I could do anything to help, I would, but to be honest I have to get my kids to help me with the Sky remote so I'm best off out of any IT matters. All I can do for now is keep passing on your comments.

Sorry, folks.

fuzzyfozzy · 16/02/2018 20:09

Just happened again here on the app.

Panda81 · 16/02/2018 22:28

Just happened to me again on the iOS app. Every single friggin' post 😫

NinaMarieP · 17/02/2018 03:21

I'm on IOS too but mine haven't reset (yet). So it's not hitting everyone at the same time.

CiderwithBuda · 17/02/2018 06:03

Happens for me too. Safari on iPad.

Haven't tracked it but it seems t be random.

NinaMarieP · 18/02/2018 19:38

That's it all just reset for me tonight.
