Problem with read threads not changing colour...

Ok MN, so now you've fixed the problem with bookmarking Grin. For some time now, when I've read a thread, it temporarily changes colour, to show I've read it, then will change back to 'unread colour' at some point and then I'm reading a thread again that I'm not interested in because the title wasn't memorable enough for me to remember. First world problem, I know.... I'm using Chrome on laptop.

Me too Panda81

mummabubs · 19/01/2018 23:43

It's just done it again with both my 'I'm on' and 'watching' lists. So annoying and doesn't seem to be a priority to be fixed given how long it's been doing this for! :(

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 20/01/2018 01:52

And it happens on Internet Explorer too, but MN seem to have given up on this one.

I posted about it in October, and its still not fixed!

OP posts:
OlympicBonfire · 22/01/2018 22:32

Still doing it for me too. It would be nice if MNHQ actually replied on here to acknowledge they've read the most recent comments even if it's not a priority !

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 23/01/2018 17:55

Yes Olympic. I think they're hoping we're all go away! Grin

QueenCity · 24/01/2018 22:11

Just a little bump and to say that this also happens to me and is really irritating!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 25/01/2018 21:16

Yes Queen, I am a tad bored with it now. And nobody in the Towers cares about us! Sob.

If we report the thread but say that we're reporting it to draw attention to it as it seems to be being ignored is that allowed?

TraceyTech · 26/01/2018 11:15

So sorry you are having problems with this. MNHQ Tech will take a look at this and see why this is happening.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 26/01/2018 20:30

First reported this in October Tracey.

Panda81 · 28/01/2018 19:29

Every post in watching and I'm on has reset itself again 😫

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 28/01/2018 20:28

Towers don't care! They have been fobbing me off looking into it since October last year.

OP posts:
Panda81 · 29/01/2018 01:30

But it's ok, the date and time of posts is in larger font now Hmm

TraceyTech · 29/01/2018 09:50

We do definitely care, very sorry for the delay in getting this sorted.

We have moved it up to the top of our priority, so hopefully will have this fixed very soon.

Tracey

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 29/01/2018 12:51

Thanks Tracey, because I have been bumping this since October.

OP posts:
TraceyTech · 30/01/2018 10:12

Sorry for the delay!

Visited links show depending on browser history. This varies depending on the browser you are using.

Chrome - has a default setting of 90 days, you can't change this.
Firefox - keeps by number of pages rather than days
Safari - you can change this in preferences under "remove history items"

So after a period of time/lots of browsing things will get removed from your browser history depending on which browser you are using.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 30/01/2018 11:30

Except that's not the original problem Tracey. The title of the thread is threads not changing colour. I think other people have added other problems as time has gone on it being a long time since October, and my bumping finger getting sore Grin

Hi There SpongeBob...

" it temporarily changes colour, to show I've read it, then will change back to 'unread colour' at some point "

I think that was in the original post? So it does change colour then changes back at some point?

If however it's not changing colour for you at all then that might be a setting on the browser you are using, which I think you said is chrome?

OlympicBonfire · 30/01/2018 15:55

the thread changes colour (to purple for me ) once opened. I have been experiencing threads remaining blue when I revisit them either on the same day or next day - nothing to do with settings in whichever browser is being used.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 30/01/2018 16:06

Not just a chrome issue. It does it on Explorer too Tracey.

OP posts:
QueenCity · 31/01/2018 06:00

And Safari.

mummabubs · 31/01/2018 08:13

It does it in the app for me frequently, it's really frustrating! :(

TraceyTech · 31/01/2018 09:43

Hi,

You are quite right I forgot to include Explorer in my list of browsers, it is something that all browsers do.

This is because it is a feature of the browser and depends on your browser history and how the browser manages the history of pages you have visited. This is something controlled by the browser you are using at the time.

So for example you may look at a thread on safari then look at a link to that same thread on another browser and it won't show as visited, because you are using a different browser.

The browser searches it's history to determine whether a link is visited or not. Once the user deletes the browser history, or the browser history expires (which is different for each browser), a link will stop showing as visited. The browser history is stored slightly differently depending on which browser you are using.

Browsers keep track of all web pages you visit on the web, after some time the pages you have visited will expired from your browser history, and will no longer show as visited.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 31/01/2018 12:48

OK, I hear what you say, but it only started to do this in October, and I don't seem to have changed anything else.
