Deleting whole threads

Northernlurker · 31/03/2017 18:07

I've been here for ten years now (dd3 10th birthday approaching)

When I started posting threads were hardly ever deleted. Sometimes people would ask for them to go and they were nearly always told to get a grip. This had a very positive effect on posting behaviour because it just wasn't possible to talk a load of bollocks on a thread and not have it come up to bite you later. It dealt with a lot of posters who would otherwise have time wasted.

That principle seems to have totally disappeared now. Threads are deleted all the time ' to protect privacy' when what seems to be meant is to protect the posters blushes because they've had their arse handed to them on a plate. Some posters in particular are getting threads, which people have spent time and energy answering, deleted repeatedly.

This is a website for adults and I think we all need to behave like adults. That means sticking by our comments. Could we try a no thread deletion policy for a bit? Threads with rl names could have those posts deleted but the threads still stand. Might encourage better posting behaviour.

OP posts:

The Netmums threads usually get deleted as not in the spirit.

It's weird that threads that shouldn't be deleted are and threads that should be nipped in the bud asap aren't. Confused

ZackyVengeance · 31/03/2017 23:11

mn hq allow a lot of bad stuff stand
there was a thread the other week that had a lot of reports and was "ist" don't want to derail this by talking about the disablism.
BUT it does prove that they will allow a thread to stand that is we;; "bad"
yet if an op gets upset.its gone.
makes mn really not worth it

ZackyVengeance · 31/03/2017 23:12

yep to edit function..very bad
i need typing lessons

Sparklingbrook · 31/03/2017 23:13

I agree Zacky. I dip in and out now-mainly out TBH. Since we stopped getting replies to reports it's all a bit hit and miss.

If an edit or like button arrive that will probably be me done.

BillyButtfuck · 31/03/2017 23:16

20 kids and counting one is:

Sue Radford pregnant again
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/2890127-Sue-Radford-pregnant-again

The baby name opinion one where everyone said what the hell no way and then it turned out the daughter was already named, registered, at school and an online model has just been deleted.

SookiesSocks · 31/03/2017 23:21

Tyga-lili?

Voice0fReason · 31/03/2017 23:29

No edit button.
No likes or dislikes.
And deletions should be in exceptional circumstances only! I'd rather see bunfights locked.

It is very irritating when you take the time to reply or discuss and issue, only for the thread to disappear for some contrived reason.

WorraLiberty · 31/03/2017 23:31

I agree OP.

The amount of threads deleted 'to protect the poster's privacy' (for that, read they threw a strop) is getting ridiculous and has been for ages.

Then on the other hand, threads that should be zapped immediately, are often left to stand for hours.

Right now, there's a really snidey thread in OTBT about ghostspirit.

Full of posts just basically slagging her off and troll hunting and yet it's been there for hours.

It makes no sense to me at all.

SookiesSocks · 31/03/2017 23:35

Ahh Worra you become more and more like your namesake.
Furst one on every post. Sticks her beak in where it is not required and says very little of interest.

Pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

Itaintme · 31/03/2017 23:35

Thats a low thing to do to start a thread in OTBT about a poster.

I hope the thread gets deleted and the snidey fuckers get banned.

ZackyVengeance · 31/03/2017 23:37

what ever you thoughts are on a poster. a thread to slag them off is nasty and really odd.

DonkeyOaty · 31/03/2017 23:44

That is appalling SookiesSocks. PMing posters to invite them to join you on your slagging off thread Shock

Awful behaviour.

WorraLiberty · 31/03/2017 23:44

You can say what you like SookiesSocks but what you'll never be able to do, is justify starting a thread like that.

Very bad form.

PortiaCastis · 31/03/2017 23:45

How low can people get, disgusting and shameful behaviour!

SookiesSocks · 31/03/2017 23:45

Ha i am not justifying it. I have no reason to answer to you.
Just tickles me that you botheted to find it....

BillyButtfuck · 31/03/2017 23:45

Worra I've always found you insightful and helpful, if it makes you feel any better I think you're one of the good'ns Smile

SookiesSocks · 31/03/2017 23:46

Apt name considering that post.

armpitz · 31/03/2017 23:50

I've said on there and will say on here that generally speaking I think extensive discussion of another poster is wrong.

However there are exceptions and I think this is one of them.

When someone who has posted for years may not be all they seem that elicits concerns especially in this case where concerns are pressing.

I regret it if this has caused any offence or upset to anybody but I think this is one of the rare cases where people will want to try to work out what is going on.

WorraLiberty · 31/03/2017 23:52

FWIW I always read OTBT, not that I have to justify the topics I choose.

But given the spineless nature of the thread, meaning ghostspirit wasn't named, how could anyone search for it anyway?

PortiaCastis · 31/03/2017 23:53

Disgusting behaviour.

DonkeyOaty · 31/03/2017 23:53

SookiesSocks please don't. Don't make it worse than it looks.

On an earlier thread about deletions in Site Stuff you alluded to having to name change after a flaming as a newbie, so you're an old hand and know the score.

MistressMerryWeather · 31/03/2017 23:54

Awk bollocks, armpitz.

There was too much good dramaz to be had and it ended when the threads got deleted.

All this faux concern for the for the children is really transparent.

It's just schadenfreude and that thread proves it.

armpitz · 31/03/2017 23:54

And the thread will probably be deleted, which means that the disgusting behaviour (as you see it) will vanish.

Which is really what the discussion is about isn't it?

WorraLiberty · 31/03/2017 23:55

armpitz then why not discuss those concerns with other posters off board, or even in the Chat topic?

Why the snidey posts in a harder to find topic?

You can see how horrible that is surely?

Would you like to stumble across a similar thread about you?

SookiesSocks · 31/03/2017 23:55

Yes you always read OTBT because lets face it there cannot be a thread you miss out on posting on.

Worra you dont have to justify yourself to me. I never asked you to.

You have achieved your aim and I am sure once you remove Billy from your butt you can relax for the night as it is a job well done. Grin
