Deleting whole threads

Northernlurker · 31/03/2017 18:07

I've been here for ten years now (dd3 10th birthday approaching)

When I started posting threads were hardly ever deleted. Sometimes people would ask for them to go and they were nearly always told to get a grip. This had a very positive effect on posting behaviour because it just wasn't possible to talk a load of bollocks on a thread and not have it come up to bite you later. It dealt with a lot of posters who would otherwise have time wasted.

That principle seems to have totally disappeared now. Threads are deleted all the time ' to protect privacy' when what seems to be meant is to protect the posters blushes because they've had their arse handed to them on a plate. Some posters in particular are getting threads, which people have spent time and energy answering, deleted repeatedly.

This is a website for adults and I think we all need to behave like adults. That means sticking by our comments. Could we try a no thread deletion policy for a bit? Threads with rl names could have those posts deleted but the threads still stand. Might encourage better posting behaviour.

I think we really need an MNHQ-led thread on all of these recent events - the busting myths part could come into that.

Saucery · 31/03/2017 21:35

They will not be commenting on individual posters or confirming Troll/Not Troll

DaisyBlameless · 31/03/2017 21:49

I haven't been on here all today but can guess who has had another thread deleted.

If she is genuine, these increasingly needy and often rambling posts are pure enabling, not helping anyone, let least the children.

Saucery · 31/03/2017 21:52

I'm not sure she's had that many threads deleted tbh. There was the one today, but there are still lots about and of course ones in Chat are going to have gone.
History being rewritten in a kinda overwrought way, maybe?

Universitychallenging · 31/03/2017 21:53

There was one today and one yesterday.

I don't know about any others. Apparently there was at least one other deleted back in January time?

Saucery · 31/03/2017 21:54

Being really careful not to show a mismatch of grammar abilities, natch...

Northernlurker · 31/03/2017 21:55

Obviously there is one poster that's on a lot of people's minds but I was actually making a general point. More and more I've seen threads deleted when a few years ago they would stand. That's a real shame for the site.
This site can be a fantastic source of information and support but it's strength lies in veracity and a culture where you can post whatever bullshit you think of and 'get away with it' by bleating to HQ so they delete the thread is not contributing to a culture of veracity in posting.

Well, there you go, UniversityChallenging. You don't know about the offboard vendetta against this poster. Same old names and identifiable posters pop up every time.

I have no opinion as to whether she is trolling or real. I do know the tactics of this particular group of posters and yep, it sucks.

Universitychallenging · 31/03/2017 21:58

I am not involved in any kind of off-board vendetta against anyone and to insinuate I am is baseless.

MrsMackenzo · 31/03/2017 22:04

Seems to be your day for getting it in the neck, uni!

That same poster was apparently banned from somewhere else though, wasn't she?

Itaintme · 31/03/2017 22:06

If every thread you start is taken over by the same posters having a dig. It's not surprising that you would want them deleting.. I would.

ZackyVengeance · 31/03/2017 22:06

If you keep talking about one poster this thread will be deleted
Its not about one poster,
The other day i was reading a thread, op was unhappy with replies so said they would get it deleted
It went

Itaintme · 31/03/2017 22:09

Of course it's about one poster.

Itaintme · 31/03/2017 22:10

Yes but why does it matter? I think we should be able to delete our own threads.

SookiesSocks · 31/03/2017 22:12

It happens more and more.
I saw one the other day and it went poof by page 3.
Yet the wee cleaning mum one where the OP took a pasting still stands.
At least she had the conviction to take the rough stuff with out calling the......what was it??? Wah- ambulance Grin

sobeyondthehills · 31/03/2017 22:13

I am finding more and more threads being deleted and then someone the other day resurrected a zombie thread, of someone else begging HQ to delete their threads and HQ going piss off not the exact words

MrsMackenzo · 31/03/2017 22:13

If you can't handle the heat...etc

ZackyVengeance · 31/03/2017 22:13

Why
If you post and people reply
And give their time and energy..even if its to say your wrong,
Why should you be able to whinge and get it deleted

Sparklingbrook · 31/03/2017 22:14

I think all you have to do to get a thread deleted because you don't like the replies is to say it's outing. That usually does the trick, even if it isn't in the least bit outing.Hmm

Northernlurker · 31/03/2017 22:15

It's NOT just about one poster. It's about what's a prevalent culture now. The easy name changing has always been criticised but the absurd username999999999 thing has made that even worse. If HQ then delete because the posters themselves don't like how threads go then you're just making a joke of the discussion. What it says is this is a place to receive praise and agreement only. If that's what you want I would suggest netmums.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 31/03/2017 22:16

I think we should be able to delete our own threads

Well that would result in chaos, same as an edit button would. Hmm

Itaintme · 31/03/2017 22:18

Considering how many threads are lifted for the DM I'm surprised anyone posts anything on here any more.

sobeyondthehills · 31/03/2017 22:19

I would like an edit button, if they could design something that would let you edit within 5-10 minutes, for any stupid mistakes you make.

It would save another post explaining the post you have just written

ZackyVengeance · 31/03/2017 22:19

Or maybe thats why they do lol

Sparklingbrook · 31/03/2017 22:20

I just want a Hide Poster button.
