Deleting whole threads

Northernlurker · 31/03/2017 18:07

I've been here for ten years now (dd3 10th birthday approaching)

When I started posting threads were hardly ever deleted. Sometimes people would ask for them to go and they were nearly always told to get a grip. This had a very positive effect on posting behaviour because it just wasn't possible to talk a load of bollocks on a thread and not have it come up to bite you later. It dealt with a lot of posters who would otherwise have time wasted.

That principle seems to have totally disappeared now. Threads are deleted all the time ' to protect privacy' when what seems to be meant is to protect the posters blushes because they've had their arse handed to them on a plate. Some posters in particular are getting threads, which people have spent time and energy answering, deleted repeatedly.

This is a website for adults and I think we all need to behave like adults. That means sticking by our comments. Could we try a no thread deletion policy for a bit? Threads with rl names could have those posts deleted but the threads still stand. Might encourage better posting behaviour.

I say well bloody done to you for bringing that to everyone's attention, Worra.

It really shows some posters true colours.

PortiaCastis · 31/03/2017 23:56

Oh how very courageous to slag off a poster en masse

armpitz · 31/03/2017 23:56

Oh I daresay Mrs. I'm not a saint! But I was pretty concerned about a thread from a while back.

Anyway just dragging that thread here and don't want this thread to be deleted Shock Smile

ZackyVengeance · 31/03/2017 23:58

the problem with starting "hidden" thread to slag of a poster.....you make the poster a victim.
so stupid thing to do

(and am I alone in lol at some one with socks in their name taking the piss out of another name......I can say this as if it goes wrong I can get my posts deleted as my user name outs me in rl...)

Itaintme · 31/03/2017 23:58

Go and form a FB group. Then you can slag us all off to your hearts content. Doing it on MN is all kinds of wrong.

SookiesSocks · 31/03/2017 23:59

Its never hidden on mn. I knew that when I started the thread.
I dont get the sock joke though sorry Confused

armpitz · 01/04/2017 00:00

Why would I want to slag you off?

I don't think Gs is genuine.

Reports to MN have for once not been helpful.

This isn't a 'ooh, armpitz stinks' kind of thing :)

PortiaCastis · 01/04/2017 00:00

You should get banned

SookiesSocks · 01/04/2017 00:01

I am sure mnhq are on it already. I mean posters say jump mnhq say how hight these days.

WorraLiberty · 01/04/2017 00:02

Sookies if I had a lorryload of fucks delivered, I still couldn't find one to give about what you think of me.

However, some posters do care what others think of them.

So starting snide threads is really low.

DonkeyOaty · 01/04/2017 00:03

Sookies stop it. Come on, put the laptop lid down.

armpitz · 01/04/2017 00:03

Well, if I am I shall accept MNs decision, although I would hope not.

Northernlurker · 01/04/2017 00:05
Hmm

Reap what you sow

SookiesSocks · 01/04/2017 00:06

if I had a lorryload of fucks delivered, I still couldn't find one to give about what you think of me.

I feel the same way about you so at least on this we agree.

Yes its low but not as low as sucking posters in for years and making them believe you were close to suicide. Thats real low.
But I am happy to agree to disagree worra.

PforPhoebeHforhoebe · 01/04/2017 09:21

Sookies Shock is this for real ?

DonkeyOaty · 01/04/2017 10:25

The thread elsewhere started by SookiesSocks has been deleted, with the message "Thread deleted

Message from MNHQ: This thread was started to discuss another poster, and is definitely not in the spirit of the site".

Good.

PortiaCastis · 01/04/2017 10:26

Good the bitchfest has gone

Itaintme · 01/04/2017 10:30

It was left up far longer than it should have been.

UnbornMortificado · 01/04/2017 10:35

I'm pleased there are still posters about who will challenge shit like that.

Nothing worse then bullying.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 01/04/2017 10:36

HQ will hopefully be banning for Sookies for that.

BeyondUser24601 · 01/04/2017 10:48

I will trot out this example again. (Totally not one to hold a grudge Grin )

The one that tipped this into ridiculous for me was back in the summer. A man posted that he was financially abusing and "guilting his wife into sex" in the relationships section, to be told by many posters that he was abusive and "guilting" is rape. Not only were those posters told off by others for making the OP feel bad Hmm (posting he was abusive in the relationship section where there are many victims ffs) but the thread was then deleted for "privacy" (despite being the ops only thread and not in the slightest bit identifying)

That was the wtf moment for me. Of course when I asked about it, it was deleted as a taat, as they always are.

ProudBadMum · 01/04/2017 10:51

When I first started when you started a thread and you ended up looking like a tit you were told tough shit.

Now it's 'the y don't agree with me so delete' and it's done

MrsMackenzo · 01/04/2017 11:00

I once posted a thread in AIBU that some posters felt unhappy with, even though I didn't see a problem at the time of posting it.
When I got that reaction, I emailed MNHQ asking to remove it as I was worried it would 'trigger' posters. They were really lovely about the whole thing.

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2017 11:00

It's getting to the point where you have to decide if MN is the site you want to be on I think.

If it's causing all this angst.
