How can cis be used in a non-derogatory way, MNHQ? Could you give an example of a usage that does not rely on the belief that women think, behave or dress in a certain way because they have XX chromosomes?

Biological fact is more than "mainstream scientific thinking".

I am not sure about pronouns. I would be perfectly happy to call someone whatever they want, in private everyday discourse, as a matter of course. But this is a public and contested space and perhaps, therefore, such usage becomes political.

JacquettaWoodville · 30/08/2016 21:48

Ego has reported the poster who said Ego was making the thread all about Ego.

As this has come up before, I can see why Ego wanted to report it.

Separately: trans woman and non trans woman? Really?

How about we have trans people and non - trans people?

Fucks sake. How about we change the entire English language and customs to accommodate a small number of (mostly) MTT demanding their rights. With that group at the top of the cake, of course

attacktheblock · 30/08/2016 21:48

KateMumsnetI'm pleased you are considering the needs of parents of trans kids as you say.

what about he parents of girls who are v much worried/affected by this?

user1471098628 · 30/08/2016 21:48

To my mind, the use of cis is ALWAYS inflammatory. Because it is being used to redefine me so that someone who has lived with male privilege can shift the goalposts.

This. I cut my dick off so I'm just like you now. Move over. Lower. Lower.

JacquettaWoodville · 30/08/2016 21:49

" I would be perfectly happy to call someone whatever they want, in private everyday discourse, as a matter of course. But this is a public and contested space and perhaps, therefore, such usage becomes political."

This is a good point.

Waltermittythesequel · 30/08/2016 21:49

How about we have trans people and non - trans people?

Or trans people and women & men?

AskBasil · 30/08/2016 21:50

"You delete posters for pointing out the benefits of vaccines in case of offending anti-vaxxers?"

To add to that, or the benefits of breastfeeding in case of offending bottle feeders?

Elendon · 30/08/2016 21:50

Ego How about we have people and then trans people? Do you see how offensive that is?

People are people.

Ego147 · 30/08/2016 21:50

Back away from the report button you are not helping the situation by behaving in such a childish manner

Really - I said that the response should be on a new thread so everyone can see it and someone said 'it's not all about me'

No - it's about everyone on MN who might want to see MN's views as there are loads of threads at the moment. But their response is hidden

And then someone came up with the typical 'it's not all about you'

Just typical fucking bullying that I have come to expect.

(waits for merailing)

user1471098628 · 30/08/2016 21:51

*And then someone came up with the typical 'it's not all about you'

Nice name change, mix of old and new. Couldn't have everyone not recognising the "authority" on the subject, could we?

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 30/08/2016 21:52

I'm not going to be forced to use personal pronouns which make a liar out of me. I will simply avoid using personal pronouns. Transpeople should simply avoid using 'cis' if they believe it is for the same reason

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 30/08/2016 21:53

Bullying your arse. Talk sense and you will get a decent response

Showmethewaytogohome · 30/08/2016 21:53

Thanks for the lack of response to my point Ego or is it not important as it doesn't support your view

I am I a cis ie non trans non white woman? Or am I a black woman? Descriptors are very important - you argue they are

IzzyIsBusy · 30/08/2016 21:54

Oh for goodness sake.

You could have just ignored it. It was 1 comment or you could have reported it and NOT announced it. But no you announced it on the thread which will just draw more attention to the comment and you.

Anyway moving on. Women are women they are not cis and never will be. Biology rules.

JacquettaWoodville · 30/08/2016 21:54

Ego

HLI's response was not to your first post about starting a new thread but to your second one about finding the thread uncomfortable reading.

I disagree with what HLI posted but I do not think her comment was bullying.

I suspect the thread will rapidly become heated now, which is a shame.

BeyondASpecialSnowflake · 30/08/2016 21:55

Interesting parallel with the disability related threads where there are plenty of posters stating that being carers of adult children with disabilities, they are frequently overlooked...

JacquettaWoodville · 30/08/2016 21:55

X post with Izzy.

attacktheblock · 30/08/2016 21:56

mmhq there are lots of pertinent questions about women's rights which require a direct response so we can see if this a site that supports us or not.

Is this your only answer?

Hateloggingin · 30/08/2016 21:56

Ego I truly did not mean to bully you Shock I was trying to say that this is about 800+ (?) women saying how they feel and then a man comes along and we're supposed to pretend we don't understand science or biology and lie??

At least we know where women are in the 'heap' now.

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 30/08/2016 21:57

What about the girls MNHQ? What about the girls who are being forced to changed with young MTT in the US, after the US PRESIDENT mandated that it happen. What about their parents?

NanGarden · 30/08/2016 21:57

I am NanGarden and I want my granddaughters (and grandsons) to be able to grow up knowing what it is to be a woman, or a man, without being exposed to this.

Here at last is sense in a public (sort of) space, and well done to Mumsnet for not pulling the whole thread on the grounds of....well anything really!

Gender terms - masculine, feminine, describe the behaviour of the person who is male or female by dint of their DNA. No amount of drugs or surgery can change that.

What seems to be happening is that people who are ill - delusional - are being encouraged in their delusion by so called medical professionals to live out that delusion in a truly awful self-harming way. It has some similarities to assisted suicide - and given the suicide rate among folk who go down the trans-gender route, could be seen as a form of assisted suicide!

Let's offer real help to those people who have been so hurt by life that they have become ill.

Ego147 · 30/08/2016 21:57

You could have just ignored it. It was 1 comment or you could have reported it and NOT announced it. But no you announced it on the thread which will just draw more attention to the comment and you

Last time I got accused of reporting something when I hadn't. So this time, I am going to make it very fucking clear that I did report it. Just so people know rather than finger pointing.

I am not going to ignore repeated bullying.

SansaClegane · 30/08/2016 21:57

And this: "If people are using sex-at-birth pronouns (...)"
Why "sex-at-birth"? Sex doesn't change! Looks like MNHQ is blatantly pandering to the TA lobby here.

Agree with all that the response leaves much to be desired.
