Message from MNHQ: We're afraid we felt we had to delete this thread as we feel like it has strayed way outside of our Talk Guidelines. We do regard deliberate, malicious misgendering (as opposed to accidental slip ups) as transphobic. Thank you to everyone who took the time to post thoughtfully here. We understand folks will want to talk more about pronouns and trans issues in general on another thread perhaps - but we would ask that you do so in way that doesn't rehash or repeat this thread. ONE poster wanted to discuss pronouns and they won. A thread about women being shut down by transactivists was shut down by a ta.

Fucking brilliant.

AND FOR THE RECORD THE PERSON'S PRONOUNS ARE 'THEY'

A vile misogynist was "misgendered" be being called he, because we can not even discuss who is doing this.. It is he's. It is men.

they was not even a thing 5 years ago. If I today demanded my pronouns be "Vagina owner" would everyone have to respect that?

Someone set up a mn refuge thread on Reddit GC, I'm on my way (having resisted for bloody ages)

FlappyRose · 25/08/2016 07:35

Another post in support.

OTheHugeManatee · 25/08/2016 07:36

Another one in support.
The only thing I'd say is a plea to keep discussing this on MN, which is a mainstream forum in the public domain and hence more likely to get exposure among non-niche groups. The moment everyone who thinks that someone born with penis and testes and raised as male is not a woman feels like they have to retreat to secret closed groups we've lost the argument and are ripe for being caricatured as a sort of retrograde gender UKIP. This needs to keep getting discussed as visibly as possible. Please don't let's all leave MN for it. They can't delete everything.

Oh I'm not leaving, I'm just registering somewhere why I won't be censored too :)

PacificDogwod · 25/08/2016 07:39

Support from here too.

I had not posted on the other thread as I knew I would struggle to contain my utter disbelief and incredulity at Ada's various statements. Whether they are man, woman, mineral, vegetable or anything else, nobody should be given a platform for these kinds of views.

I am more than happy for everybody to express their sexuality whichever way makes them happy and to identify as who- or whatever they feel they are, but the utter self-centredness of some TA is just bewildering.
And currently my amazing political statement in response to them is to ignore them. Yes, I know, I rock Hmm

Whether or not they have a penis, they are pricks.

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 25/08/2016 07:42

So we ARE allowed to say Ada Wells is fucking shitty scum and it was about bloody time they got booted, but we ARE NOT allowed to say Ada Wells is a man,
have i got that right?

Wassat · 25/08/2016 07:44

Yes, I agree. The slow erosion of women's rights and safe space is really worrying to me. it's really important to have a space where women's voices can be heard and valued and if that's not MN anymore then where is it? So disappointed in HQSad

Also in support, MN has been great support to me throughout pregnancy and birth but I'm now bitterly disappointed by the thread deletions and what presents as misogynistic support from HQ.

I would've posted earlier, but I was dropping the dog in for a wash. Grin

I fully support the OP. I don't support the heterosexual man called Ada Wells, and think he is either deluded or gas lighting (probably the latter) to refer to himself as a woman and a lesbian.

Finally, I fully support the woman (who just happens to be a lesbian who doesn't think other lesbians should be coerced into sleeping with men who say they are lesbians with penises) he continues to vexatiously harass.

CharlieSierra · 25/08/2016 07:48

Adding my support. I didn't read the cuntscum thread as it was locked.

I have to go to work, hope this is still here when I get home to read and contribute properly.

TequilaBlockingBird · 25/08/2016 07:49

This is a post truth reality. What MN is also forgetting I think is that outside the protected world of student politics and commercially sensitive websites no one accepts that people with penises are women.

They can present as women, and identify as women and prefer to adopt female pronouns but they are not women.

And silencing our discussion won't change that.

olives106 · 25/08/2016 07:50

My support too.

TruckerHat · 25/08/2016 07:50

Adding another post in support.

FreshwaterSelkie · 25/08/2016 07:50

another supporter here.

Have loads more to say, have said loads more in other threads, but we really, really need to be able to discuss this and to be allowed to disagree with other people's beliefs, no matter how sincerely they hold them.

KoalaDownUnder · 25/08/2016 07:54

I would genuinely like to know why I am supposed to consider this man to be a woman, merely because he has declared himself to be one??

Since when is that the way the world works? Confused

PorridgeHoneyCake · 25/08/2016 07:54

I'd lost my old MN username and created a new one just to say that I am 100% with the OP.
I read the deleted thread and cannot understand why it was deleted. By deleting the thread you, MN, are giving validation to an narcissistic woman hater.

I feel compassion for those with gender dysphoria but feel that the whole gender non binary trans debate is being hijacked to derail women's rights.

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 25/08/2016 07:55

Yy tequila

JudyCoolibar · 25/08/2016 07:57

I agree that there were people who weren't treating ego entirely fairly but I've seen far far worse be allowed to stand

I suspect you didn't see the thread in its latter stages, singing sixpence, when she was being repeatedly hectored and abused because the OP and others had decided, wrongly, that she had reported Special. It was extremely unpleasant. MN made it clear earlier on that they wanted the discussion to continue and asked that people stop misgendering, so I don't think complaints of censorship on here are entirely merited.

BungoWomble · 25/08/2016 07:57

Another name on board.

There is no such thing as female penises in the human species. End of. If that biological fact makes me a terf, fine, I'm a terf. I've been called enough names for being a woman. This is just another insult to add to my collection.

ThatStewie · 25/08/2016 07:58

It's worth repeating that Ada is not some extreme outlier within the transgender movement, but, as this site makes clearly, actually representative of a very vocal section who think death threats are reasonable and proportionate responses to women, particularly lesbians, who do not want to have sex with them and those who believe gender is a form of oppression.
