ONE poster wanted to discuss pronouns and they won. A thread about women being shut down by transactivists was shut down by a ta.

I've no doubt this thread will disappear once the morning mods wake up but I feel the need to post in support of the OP.

I'm tired of this. So tired. I've spent my entire adult life standing up against oppression of my sex/gender/whatever the fuck we're supposed to call it these days. I've had a lifetime of being policed by misogynistic men. Of societal expectations of what it means to be a woman and of the backlash of not conforming to those expectations. Of being expected to defer to The All-Knowing and Almighty Penis, overtly or implicitly.

And now, apparently, The All-Knowing and Almighty Penis comes attached to women, and those of us who were born women and who are happy to stay that way are not allowed to say "hang on - this is not what it means to be a woman." Because we are not in possession of an All-Knowing and Almighty Penis so our experience, our knowledge, our lives are less valid. Our words are the ones that must be silenced. As per fucking usual.

Gender dysphoria must be a lonely, confusing and frightening place to live and I support the right of anyone who feels trapped in the wrong body to have the freedom to correct that. But what we're seeing now has gone beyond that.

And I will never, never understand why someone who clearly hates women so much ("cuntscum"? Really?) is so fucking keen to be taken for one...unless there is another agenda. An agenda to rewrite the definition of "woman" and "lesbian" and airbrush ciswomen out of existence altogether.

I heard Germaine speak in the late 1960s and was an instant convert to Women's Lib, as we knew it then. I am a feminist. Went on marches, petitioned for equal rights etc etc.

But I would never have called myself a radical feminist. Now I do because it is the rad fems who are most strident in refusing to allow transwomen dictate who we are, what we can say, how we say it and who we have sex with.

Suddenly it's all about the menz. Well they can fuck right off.

We have a right to our own safe spaces and their penises, male or female, don't belong there.

Trans rights cannot be allowed to trump our hard fought for rights, the equality battle is not yet won. But now a subset of men is trying to hijack our agenda and take away what we have. No, just no.

Right I might be wrong and I need to catch up fully but surely you cannot be a woman if you have a penis you can be transitioning I imagine but surely having a penis makes you a man and I don't think this particular person is taking any hormones to make them a woman either?

He seems to think that dressing as a woman gives him the right to belittle us but have his voice heard because he's male. No thank you

I'm bi but there's now no way I would be involved with anything LGBT because I can't imagine it would be a safe space anymore. I wonder how many other lesbians / bi women feel the same. When I was a student men were always complaining about us having women only meetings as we were excluding them. It feels like a case now of if you can't beat them, join them....
