Message from MNHQ: We're afraid we felt we had to delete this thread as we feel like it has strayed way outside of our Talk Guidelines. We do regard deliberate, malicious misgendering (as opposed to accidental slip ups) as transphobic. Thank you to everyone who took the time to post thoughtfully here. We understand folks will want to talk more about pronouns and trans issues in general on another thread perhaps - but we would ask that you do so in way that doesn't rehash or repeat this thread. ONE poster wanted to discuss pronouns and they won. A thread about women being shut down by transactivists was shut down by a ta.

Fucking brilliant.

AND FOR THE RECORD THE PERSON'S PRONOUNS ARE 'THEY'

A vile misogynist was "misgendered" be being called he, because we can not even discuss who is doing this.. It is he's. It is men.

they was not even a thing 5 years ago. If I today demanded my pronouns be "Vagina owner" would everyone have to respect that?

I will never call a man a woman, no matter what they wish to be known as, I think it sets a pretty dangerous precedent to be honest to pander to it all. If this is to be the norm, any guy could just randomly decide to have the 'brain of a woman' and therefor be able to go places that are gender specific just because in their head they are a bloke. And vice versa. Its just wrong.

However, if someone has taken the genuine steps to change their sex, and is in all but birthgender a woman/man, then I shall say she/he. This is way different to a bloke in a frock.

I assume this isn't the PC answer. But I don't particularly care.

" However, if someone has taken the genuine steps to change their sex, and is in all but birthgender a woman/man, then I shall say she/he. This is way different to a bloke in a frock."

Completely agree.

Fantasma · 25/08/2016 01:00

I think it's a bit complicated for the UofE because it's an elected position - Ada was voted in by the student body, the majority of whom are currently on their summer holidays. EUSA (the student association) doesn't actually have that many non-student staff.

Bogeyface · 25/08/2016 01:00

rain I understand what you mean and I totally agree.

Our part of the world has changed so that women and men are (on paper at least) equal. These men know that they cannot go back in time and make us subserviant so they are using the PC transgender movement to take us over. Its like the fucking Borg! You will be be assimilated! They cant change their world so they want to change us.

I have genuine and heartfelt sympathy for people with genuine gender disphoria, but I suspect that there are far fewer people with that disorder than there are bandwagon jumpers who want to change things to suit themselves.

Our desire to be seen as understanding and accepting of people with gender issues has opened the door to this. I think its time that we closed it.

HornyTortoise · 25/08/2016 01:02

All I remember from the thread in question is that woman with real vaginas were labelled 'cuntscum'.

Bogeyface · 25/08/2016 01:05

Burst I have reported your post in support, I too think that it would be really helpful.

Bogeyface · 25/08/2016 01:06

Horny I believe that the woman in question was a lesbian who didnt want to have sex with a "woman" with a penis and was therefore deemed to be discriminatory. Although I may have got that wrong, it was info I got from the deleted thread.

QuackDuckQuack · 25/08/2016 01:09

I think that the trouble I have with seeing this as a massive threat to women is that it seems to be about a bunch of very unusual men who most men won't identify with at all. It is so different to the misogyny that ye olde misogynists won't transfer their allegiance from one to the other.

user1471734618 · 25/08/2016 01:11

quack it's the drip drip of it and the language change that is serious.
Although you are right, if you looked at this idiot, he does not look like someone you would take seriously does he?

tigerdriverII · 25/08/2016 01:12

Posting in solidarity OP. AskBasil - 100% agree with you. And I'd like to see MNHQ comment on this thread but I bet they won't.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 25/08/2016 01:12

Didn't see the original thread but am also shocked at the situation here.
Hope MNHQ come along and explain!

EttaJ · 25/08/2016 01:13

hornytortoise yes and it's just vile. These people that hate women yet claim to be women, calling us cuntscum. Revolting.

Bogeyface · 25/08/2016 01:13

Quack I think you are right in that men in general will not go along with this, but we as a society, men and women, are so conditioned now to not offend anyone that no one will speak up enough to shut them down.

They are using our fear of upsetting genuine trans gender people against us.

AdjustableWench · 25/08/2016 01:14

There have always been people who have acted in ways that are clearly contrary to feminist goals. Some of these people are women. The first person who springs to my mind is Ann Widdecombe, who has claimed, on occasion, to be a feminist but who left the Church of England to join the Roman Catholic Church when the C of E began ordaining women as priests.

In my view, some trans activists fall into a similar category. They claim to want equality for everyone, but their actions do not support that claim. I do not think that all trans people are like Ada Wells, in the same way that I reckon most self-professed feminists are quite unlike Ann Widdecombe. I don't have much time for either of them, but I'd rather debate the issues than slur the individuals.

And, for the record, I don't think any lesbian should be pressured into having sex with anyone she's not attracted to, for any reason.

Oswin · 25/08/2016 01:15

I'm so angry at all this fucking bullshit. Adas a fucking Muppet.
Can't believe mnhq shut down that thread.

user1471734618 · 25/08/2016 01:20

anyway he has resigned.

JudyCoolibar · 25/08/2016 01:20

particularly nasty bullying. "

really? of whom?

Egosumquim. MN's message referred to is as straying way outside Talk Guidelines, which implies that the deletion wasn't solely to do with the misgendering issue.

user1471734618 · 25/08/2016 01:22

" Egosumquim "
That person would claim bullying from a typo

Fantasma · 25/08/2016 01:24

Nobody was supposed to be bullying, misgendering or derailing!

I'm really fucked off actually - as a member of that university and and student association I want to hear people's views. Not a load of off-topic comments that lead to the thread being deleted (not that there was actually that much about it on there in the end...).

LuisCarol · 25/08/2016 01:27

I think that the trouble I have with seeing this as a massive threat to women is that it seems to be about a bunch of very unusual men who most men won't identify with at all. I am a man who doesn't identify with this person at all, but I do see this as a threat to women. "Women should have sex with who I say or else consequences" is really hard to interpret as non threatening, and any moves towards excusing statements like that are terrible.

DeathAnTaxes · 25/08/2016 01:28

quack Young women are buying in to it as they don't want to be seen as women. They think we have an opt out button.

Men are loving it because they have to do literally nothing to take away our rights now.

More and more people are identifying as trans

When we have men dominating women's sports, sharing women's prison cells and occupying spaces in women's refuges we can take a moment to congratulate ourselves on how utterly right on we've been.

Thin edge of the wedge is Ada...

JudyCoolibar · 25/08/2016 01:39

That person would claim bullying from a typo

Not so. People were wilfully misunderstanding the entirely valid point she made about the othering of transpeople, derailed the thread by going on and on about it, and then accused her of derailing it. They repeatedly ignored the fact that she made it entirely clear she condemned Ada; and finally when Special was banned the OP in particular kept on and on demanding that she admit to having reported her when she hadn't, even in the teeth of a number of fairly horrified posters asking the OP to stop.

WhatTheActualFugg · 25/08/2016 01:45

How did we get here?

A whole generation (it seems) of young people so petrified of being offended and at the same time so spoilt they think they get to write the script for how others interact with them and refer to them.

Dress however makes you happy, do to your body whatever makes you happy, love whoever makes you happy. But your gender label stays the same. It's a chromosome. It's fact. Black and white.

After all the progress that's been made towards social equality for all, why do these kids think their gender can stop or enable them to be who they want to be?

Triskaidekaphobic · 25/08/2016 01:46

They are a bunch of unusual men who are succeeding in getting laws changed to allow them and any man who claims to "identify as a woman" access to women's bathrooms, changing rooms, shelters, hospital wards etc. As well as this, in some places males are now allowed to take places on womens sporting teams or athletic events, they can benefit from college scholarships intended for females.

How is this not a threat to women's rights?
