Message from MNHQ: We're afraid we felt we had to delete this thread as we feel like it has strayed way outside of our Talk Guidelines. We do regard deliberate, malicious misgendering (as opposed to accidental slip ups) as transphobic. Thank you to everyone who took the time to post thoughtfully here. We understand folks will want to talk more about pronouns and trans issues in general on another thread perhaps - but we would ask that you do so in way that doesn't rehash or repeat this thread. Thanks.&Message from MNHQ: We're afraid we felt we had to delete this thread as we feel like it has strayed way outside of our Talk Guidelines. ONE poster wanted to discuss pronouns and they won. A thread about women being shut down by transactivists was shut down by a ta.

Fucking brilliant.

AND FOR THE RECORD THE PERSON'S PRONOUNS ARE 'THEY'

A vile misogynist was "misgendered" be being called he, because we can not even discuss who is doing this.. It is he's. It is men.

they was not even a thing 5 years ago. If I today demanded my pronouns be "Vagina owner" would everyone have to respect that?

JellyBell I know what it is about. But the cotton ceiling is a logical conclusion of Trans ideology. Not some outlier view that has no connection with the rest of Trans ideology.

StillDrSethHazlittMD · 25/08/2016 12:44

I also wondered about trending. It was there first thing this morning then as the thread built up steam it seemed not to be, despite it having far more traffic than other trending threads.

BarryMerry · 25/08/2016 12:44

"Free speech on Twitter"

Ditto Mumsnet

Seriously MN this is fucking bullshit.
JellyBelli · 25/08/2016 12:44

Oh I get it now. Sorry, I thought you were defending it!
I'm not sure it is a logical conclusion though, as I said on the previous thread its my belief that these are fake Trans people who are actually MRA's.
I think they are using these ridiculous situations and arguments to discredit the whole movement. The fact that they are a) openly so homophobic and b) intent on keeping and usinfg their penis yet identifying as female is a clue to their true agenda.

venusinscorpio · 25/08/2016 12:44

I agree with you brasty. It's the elephant in the room here. But it's only women who face this pressure. I was once on a thread on the guardian where someone suggested this should also apply to straight men. Which is also logical in exactly the same way. They dropped that idea pretty quickly following the responses.

brasty · 25/08/2016 12:47

And that is because trans ideology is rooted in misogyny. It is not accidental or a few bad eggs, it is inherently part of it.

Bardolino · 25/08/2016 12:49

Another post in support.

venusinscorpio · 25/08/2016 12:49

Totally agree. I cannot support trans ideology as a feminist woman.

Another one reading last night and absolutely horrified by mn's response.

I've been saying for years that we've taken years of progress away from women's rights recently. This is one more example. And a pretty serious one. Gay rights (particularly lesbians') going down the plughole, too. What a sad world.

Moll - your dd sounds amazing and I wish her a fabulous future.

I think it is a mistake if we lose the posters on here who post about these issues.

AdjustableWench · 25/08/2016 13:10

Hence cotton ceiling, you are being transphobic by refusing to have sex with me.

As soon as it gets personal, it's being misused. And when trans activists do this (or anyone else), we should call them on it. Every time.

An individual must not be pressured to have sex with any category of people (fat people, disabled people, men, trans women, whatever...). If I don't want to fuck fat people or disabled people, I shouldn't be pressured to. (For the record I do fuck fat and disabled people; also, I'm fat and disabled myself Smile).

Apparently, many lesbians don't want to fuck trans women. That's interesting. The idea of the cotton ceiling explores why that might be. Some categories of people are perceived as less desirable in our society. Transphobia might account for some of that, but it's likely to be much more complex.

If a particular lesbian doesn't want to fuck trans women: no cotton ceiling. Just an individual with a preference. Anyone who shouts cotton ceiling at her is thick misinformed, and probably abusive.

There are lots and lots of people who don't want to fuck me. It isn't because they're disablist fat-shamers.

DeathAnTaxes · 25/08/2016 13:16

Hey Ego if you didn't do that what makes you think I'm talking about you?

And for the record last time I acknowledge you as I'm sick of your derailing bullshit.

We have a few hundred posters now who are prepared to call a human with cock and balls a man. So what MN banhammer all of us?

The point is you smash through the glass ceiling

You think it's a coincidence they chose to use that term for women's pants?.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 25/08/2016 13:19

Adjustable, it's a lot less interesting if you consider that being a lesbian means wanting a same-SEX relationship.

Lesbians have been pressured forever to have sex with people with penises & I don't see the cotton ceiling as any different from corrective rape. What all the people who write about this seem to miss is that on a sexual level it's not about dislike of penis "and you must be SO unimaginative if you think that's all sex is about..." etc.

It's not about the presence of penis. I don't give a fuck about penis. It's about the absence of vulva - which doesn't even seem to occur to most of them.

I imagine the reason many lesbians don't want to fuck trans women is because trans women are men and lesbians, as opposed to straight and bisexual women, don't fancy or want to fuck men. However those men choose to define themselves.

AdjustableWench · 25/08/2016 13:21

I wish! The problem is that we can see through it to the other side but we have little hope of ever getting up there.

Absolutely Texas! Cotton Ceiling is even rapier than blurred lines ffs. Shame on anyone who suggests lesbians should accept being fucked with a dick.

venusinscorpio · 25/08/2016 13:25

But in the tw context you think that's a reasonable aspiration, adjustable?

moll I reported your post as I'd like MNHQ to read it and tell us why they are participating in the same abuse your daughter got.
