Can we have a topic where name changing is not allowed?

Lots of people feel the 'atmosphere' has been somewhat lost, due to MN becoming so big and so many people name changing for dubious reasons.

So how about a new topic where name changing is not allowed?

So to post in that section, you choose a different name (much like in Mumsnet local). But you have to stick to that name only.

That way, in that section at least, there would be less arses/goady fuckers/Billy bullshitters and drama llamas, hiding behind name changes.

People will become 'regulars' again (in that section at least) and when you go there to chat, you'll at least 'recognise' other people.

OK I'm sure there are 1 million reasons why this is a stupid idea/impossible to set up, but can anyone think of them? Grin

Maybe not a new topic but doing that to AIBU might cut out a lot of the crap that goes on there?

I'm up for it, a place where being a regular isn't an insult would be a good thing.

ooh yes, that too, well limited emoji use at least.

Atomik · 29/12/2015 15:38

I think the ease of name changing has had its day sitewide.

If anybody really needs to name change (like I did) it's not the world's most onerous technical challenge to de-reg, knock up a new free email account and re-reg under a new name. Took me a couple of hours tops to do the whole lot.

It won't stop the most determined of trolls, but might help cut down on the posting of stuff people might be more reluctant to write if disassociating their user name from it was more of a kerfuffle than it currently is.

I think what some of you really want is a time machine. Grin

Queenbean · 29/12/2015 15:40

Signing in to say yes please! Can users be registered for 3/6 months first before being allowed access to it so we don't get all the wazzocks turning up?

See Worra, we've all turned up so you're not a Billy no mates Grin

StrumpersPlunkett · 29/12/2015 15:44

Yes please, can I have onions with that

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2015 15:45

My paypal account is now empty Queen Grin

Yes, I agree users should be registered for a certain amount of time (like the sex topic), to stop people abusing it.

The word 'Royalty' should also be banned Grin

Fairenuff · 29/12/2015 15:45

Yes please.

Have already got a new name in mind.

IamtheZombie · 29/12/2015 15:46

Would Zombie have to choose a new nickname for this? She's not sure she'd like that.

I would quite like to be me too Zombie.

magimedi · 29/12/2015 15:48

Yes please - I'll just invert my name & be medimagi

Zomie - you can be TheZombieIam.

Easy.

Brilliant idea, LibertyWorra!

magimedi · 29/12/2015 15:48

I meant the concept of a non name change place, Worra - not my concept of name inverting.

MajesticSeaFlapFlap · 29/12/2015 15:49

If we are banning 'royalty' we have to ban 'lighthearted' in the new topic

Sparklingbrook · 29/12/2015 15:49

brookSparkling it is then.

EdithWeston · 29/12/2015 15:50

There are oodles of under-used topics already.

Don't see why adding another one would make any difference.
