Can we have a topic where name changing is not allowed?

Lots of people feel the 'atmosphere' has been somewhat lost, due to MN becoming so big and so many people name changing for dubious reasons.

So how about a new topic where name changing is not allowed?

So to post in that section, you choose a different name (much like in Mumsnet local). But you have to stick to that name only.

That way, in that section at least, there would be less arses/goady fuckers/Billy bullshitters and drama llamas, hiding behind name changes.

People will become 'regulars' again (in that section at least) and when you go there to chat, you'll at least 'recognise' other people.

OK I'm sure there are 1 million reasons why this is a stupid idea/impossible to set up, but can anyone think of them?

I would like to see NCing banned restricted generally. Maybe a maximum of three per poster, perhaps increasing with the number of years you've been registered?

It's so easy to be a dick on here with a NC. I dislike the thought that some of the twats/trolls could be very longstanding posters but using another persona.

Unless people only posted in that section, they couldn't be sure that the person they were chatting to wasn't being a twat to them in other sections.

I just respond in the way I'm being treated anyway, by anyone.

So if someone's a twat to me in one section, I'll respond accordingly.

If they're nice in another section, again I'll respond accordingly.

Much like now with all the name changing.

Just read through the thread on AIBU earlier - and yyyyy Worra, I would be delighted to find a space where trolls and AIBU twats find it uncomfortable to hang out, thus leaving space for those of us who don't like the Jeremy Kyle level that too many threads and posters seem to be from these days! I have no problem with never being anything other than AlpacaLypse here, I haven't changed name since I made an utter arse of myself while drunk on here one night about two years ago, and I now don't post on MN after the third glass. I would like to be able to namechange to ask advice if I ever needed it about something really important and private, but I'd actually prefer to have a different name for the social chat part of my life and the serious stuff.
