Can we have a topic where name changing is not allowed?

Lots of people feel the 'atmosphere' has been somewhat lost, due to MN becoming so big and so many people name changing for dubious reasons.

So how about a new topic where name changing is not allowed?

So to post in that section, you choose a different name (much like in Mumsnet local). But you have to stick to that name only.

That way, in that section at least, there would be less arses/goady fuckers/Billy bullshitters and drama llamas, hiding behind name changes.

People will become 'regulars' again (in that section at least) and when you go there to chat, you'll at least 'recognise' other people.

OK I'm sure there are 1 million reasons why this is a stupid idea/impossible to set up, but can anyone think of them? Grin

I think rFairNotFai is rather marvellous, actually.

Or even airFairNotF.

Plus I love watercress. Where do I sign up?

EmmanuelleMumsnet · 29/12/2015 16:27

Hi there, just to let you know we've seen this and we'll definitely discuss it at MNHQ.

magimedi · 29/12/2015 16:29

Over dainty egg & cress sarnies, please HQ.

Queenbean · 29/12/2015 16:30

Worra Grin we've all been there. I think that rocket might have anti-inflammatory qualities though. Sort of like a dock leaf after a nettle situation?

LumelaMme · 29/12/2015 16:31

Rocket, watercress, mustard and cress, all good (not a fussy eater*).

Having a no-NC topic would be good. I've been on here about a year and NCed once, because I didn't much like my first name which I'd chosen in a rush one evening before I realised how much of my life I would waste spend on this site.

(No one understands my new name though.)

*Except for sprouts. I hate sprouts.

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2015 16:32

Yaaay thanks Emmanuelle

Queenbean call me suspicious but you're not actually a qualified doctor, are you?

BatsUpMyNightie · 29/12/2015 16:33

I think Worra has had a very good idea and I also think it might motivate people to stick with a recognisable name. Well - it might, mightn't it? Grin

Apiarist · 29/12/2015 16:33

I don't think I understand this, quite.

How would the tech work otherwise?

ExitPursuedByABear · 29/12/2015 16:34

Right - I've read the thread now.

Why don't we decamp to Gransnet if namechanging isn't allowed over there?

Catzpyjamas · 29/12/2015 16:34

I would like this topic too but Pyjamacat is how I already refer to my feline master so I'd like to keep my own name.

Apiarist · 29/12/2015 16:35

Oh dear I lost a line. That should say;

I don't think I quite understand this.

Wouldn't the board require separate registration? How would the tech work otherwise?

magimedi · 29/12/2015 16:35

Not going to gransnet as you can't swear there - not that I want to fucking pepper every arsing post with buggering swearing but just sometimes a swear word is fucking great.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 29/12/2015 16:37

Why do they allow name-changing here, anyway? I don't think I've ever seen the official explanation.

Queenbean · 29/12/2015 16:37

I'm not, but just making a helpful leafy suggestion. Give it a go and report back - first topic for new board can be "leafy greens and their various uses"

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2015 16:38

I'm not sure Apiarist but it kind of works on Mumsnet Local (as far as I know).

I think when you switch to local, you automatically change to the separate name you chose.

I could be wrong though as I've only been over there a couple of times and not for months.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 29/12/2015 16:39

The board could be called "The Way We Were" Grin

PurpleHairAndPearls · 29/12/2015 16:40

"Classic" layout please

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2015 16:40

Saga because some people post some very personal things in the help topics, that could out them in real life.

By name changing, even if someone in RL spots them, they cant dig through their posting history.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 29/12/2015 16:42

The board could be called Regulars' Corner

Or Regular Scorner Grin

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 29/12/2015 16:44

Oh yes, I seem to have known that. I think I mean, why do they allow unlimited use of it? Why not give everyone 1-2 chances for a NC and then have to write in to request a 3rd, 4th, etc. if needed? Soz this derails the thread a bit..

ExitPursuedByABear · 29/12/2015 16:46

You can't swear on Gransnet? Seriously?

Well fuck me.

Idefix · 29/12/2015 16:47

This sounds like a fab idea Grin
All the nn changing and trolling and pbp malarkey has me totally befuddled and I can never spot any of it.
Standing patiently in the queue.

OddSocksHighHeels · 29/12/2015 16:47

Why are Gransnet not allowed to swear?
