Can we have a topic where name changing is not allowed?

Lots of people feel the 'atmosphere' has been somewhat lost, due to MN becoming so big and so many people name changing for dubious reasons.

So how about a new topic where name changing is not allowed?

So to post in that section, you choose a different name (much like in Mumsnet local). But you have to stick to that name only.

That way, in that section at least, there would be less arses/goady fuckers/Billy bullshitters and drama llamas, hiding behind name changes.

People will become 'regulars' again (in that section at least) and when you go there to chat, you'll at least 'recognise' other people.

OK I'm sure there are 1 million reasons why this is a stupid idea/impossible to set up, but can anyone think of them? Grin

I honestly don't think any self respecting kid is going to spend their half term holiday, trolling a website full of Mums paxillin. They're far more likely to be trolling Twitter, FB and Instagram.

Sadly, it's far more likely to be bored parents, especially as most of the trolls know exactly what sort of inflammatory buttons to push.

Fair point. In a fit of halfterm madness I agreed to have 2 extra 8 year olds all day and for sleepover, I am ready to hit the bottle and do some serious trolling now. Not that they are sleeping yet on their sleepover.

Bump for Rebecca

Dawn posted that she'd ask her to look back at this on the 14th May Confused

... but Worra, did you pin her down to an actual year? I've been caught out with that SO many times... Shock

WorraLiberty · 18/06/2016 14:55

Crap, no I didn't!

Also, I'm rubbish at cricket Sad

I'm reporting you right back for bumping dead horses.

That's just plain weird.

Right, that's it, Worra, I'm going to denounce you as a TROLL; one with an equine fetish to boot.

There, you can report my post and hopefully MNHQ will have their memory(ies) jogged as to what this thread was about! Grin

Bump. Don't forget this.

WorraLiberty · 30/06/2016 22:55

HQ, I know you've been really busy with the Brexit threads, but please can you at least acknowledge this?

We've been bumping it since May and I reported it a couple of weeks ago and was assured it will be looked into.

But still nothing Confused

We're now in July, MNHQ... I know it's been busy on your end but this really is something we would like addressed.

Could you possibly post on the thread to let us know when you'll be looking at this please?

NeedACleverNN · 04/07/2016 11:19

I have seen a post saying they are looking into it.
Will see if I can find it and bring it over for you

NeedACleverNN · 04/07/2016 11:21

No my mistake.

They have the power to prevent name changing if needed now so maybe that's a step in the right direction?

Butteredparsnips · 04/07/2016 11:28

Marking place. Currently spending far too much time looking for a good thread.

RebeccaMumsnet · 04/07/2016 12:11

Blush Blush Blush

I'm so sorry - here now.

Yes, we do now have the ability to prevent folks from NCing if we find that they are abusing the system and we will use it. That obviously means we will rely on you to report folks for doing that and we can take a look and stop them from NCing again if needs be.

It is not exactly what you wanted but a step in the right direction that should help.

Yes, what Maryz said absolutely.

Plus with the Summer holidays coming up, this place will be troll city as usual.

Butteredparsnips · 05/07/2016 14:08

Could we set up a Mumsnet local ourselves??? Mumsnet Swearybridge or some such??

WorraLiberty · 07/07/2016 11:03

Gaaah! @ the radio silence Grin

I have reported Maryz's post to ask if HQ can come back and answer her questions.

In particular, I'd like to know if Rebecca mean what she said at the beginning of January...

RebeccaMumsnet ~ There'll be no head patting here!

We have had a read and a think and we like the idea but it is a technical nightmare. That's not to say it's a no forever but it's a not-right-now

If folks still want this feature later on in the year, we can have another look.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 07/07/2016 11:04

*meant what she said.
