Ring the police and tell them to take cake if they got a 999 call to your address?

I'd probably report it to the police, actually. It might give further evidence.

You know, Jeff, the more you attack, the more likely you are to make a mistake and be caught.

VelmaD · 25/08/2015 21:03

Olivia, No one answered previous question (just prior to ddos yesterday so understandable) but there seems to be no select all and delete option in the Sent items of Pms?

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 25/08/2015 21:04

jorahmormont Which platform are you using? Can you see your site stats?

Don't panic though, it might be a coincidence. Attempts to access the backend of sites aren't unusual, and mostly they're automated, not personal.

Just marking my place. Hopefully only once this time!

I managed to change my email on my MN account this evening, was a bit frustrating but I got there in the end. I feel safe again!

I hope this all ends soon, I'm not good without MN, I have to actually speak to people Angry

sugar21 · 25/08/2015 21:11

MNHQ and MNers The bar is now open. Little Jeffery's are banned as they are underage and anyway are too busy using their socks.

Mmm, have to say I don't think its school kids. They might do some trolling, or even DoS a website that's pissed them off but generally I don't think school kids are that bothered about men's rights vs femminism as these idiots seem to view it.

JeffreyNeedsAHobby · 25/08/2015 21:18

Can we have a smelly wank sock emoticon for Jeffrey mn? Grin

PurpleCrazyHorse · 25/08/2015 21:24

Big hugs to the MNHQ team, what a stress especially coupled with the holidays/kids off school and people away on annual leave.

I wasn't on The List but have however changed my email to a random gmail one I have and have set up email forwarding, plus changed my password and and have now (thanks to MN) protected my tweets on Twitter.

Once the kids are back at school, I'm going to refresh all my passwords for other sites (none duplicated with MN) as a bit of a housekeeping exercise. Don't relish it, hence needing some time without interruption. Thanks Jeff/Simon/Donald (no idea who Donald is!), your hacking has actually made my online presence more secure Grin

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 25/08/2015 21:25

jorahmormont Email your host and ask them if it seems targeted, but the chances are it is just random. Even if it is targeted, the server has easily dealt with it.

But even if it is random do beef up your security: change your passwords, go through any plugins and themes you are using and make sure they're secure, double check the permissions you give to visitors. Look at your widgets and make sure you aren't pulling in dodgy code from another site. Also, don't allow scripts to be posted in comments. In fact, don't let anyone publish a comment until you've approved the first one.

Flamingopie · 25/08/2015 21:25

When I see the word Dadsec - I'm reading it as Sadsack.

coffeeisnectar · 25/08/2015 21:28

Jeffrey and Simon up a tree
W.a.n.k.I.n.g

Because they're sad little fuckers :o

Pipbin · 25/08/2015 21:28

Wasn't Dadsec the government department in the last series of The Thick of It?

maresedotes · 25/08/2015 21:29

Daft question (and I might sound paranoid) but could the hackers add stuff to an online shop? I changed my password and then did my online shop. The amount suddenly went up, I got a message to say the site was down and insecure so logged out. When I got back in £60 worth of gin had been added. I promise I am not making this up. I don't drink the stuff so couldn't have accidentally added it. I'm being paranoid aren't I? I'm changing my password anyway.

acatcalledjohn · 25/08/2015 21:30

Hold on. Where would we see Simon's ramblings and whether he has 'unmasked' any of us?

Coastingit · 25/08/2015 21:30

Has any major news website written about this? Seems worthy of news and also of a decent critique from a good comment journo.

It's terror and disdain of a woman only space.

AIBU to identify all the gins on PolterGoose's post?

IMO Jeffrey and Simon are doing it because they can and because they thought they'd cause a lot more angst than they have, it's also a bit of a jolly with their internet pals. I don't think they know women very well. I think they spend a lot of time in their own company, in the dark, with their fantasy world on line. They haven't yet learned that just because you can do something, it isn't necessarily a good way to go, but for now it amuses them.

On the upside for MN it's been an education and lots of side benefits of various kinds for users

Simurgh · 25/08/2015 21:35

Who can tell maresedotes - maybe it was being hacked and maybe all the hackers could do was add large amounts of gin to everybody's current shop? Changing your password etc and keeping an eye on things should do it from your end.
