It really is tiresome, I found 2 of his twitter accounts and both only followed Fathers4Justice so can't think we are dealing with anyone with rational thinking.

I've had to sign up again as I cannot get my old username to log in despite help from HQ. Lost all my watched/on threads grrrr (irrelevant compared to the attacks on HQ and members though)

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 25/08/2015 16:27

*none of the babies will be named Jeffrey

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/08/2015 16:30

Well he/they were chortling away on 8chan (saw a cached thread) about the first DOS/SWAT. Didn't read like MRA F4J or any of that.

It was just for laughs. They said so. Just because they could.

ChristineDePisan · 25/08/2015 16:30

If it is about the fame etc, spectacularly poor timing with the Ashley Maddison hack, which has got all the press reporting...

The statement Jeffrey gave to the Mirror did confirm that this was done on behalf of wronged men, so there is definitely a misogynist element to their actions. its' probably a combination of motivations, isn't it

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2015 16:32

I think there's more than one of them. The one who came on and corrected people's spelling (and likes anime?) appears to have a sense of humour. The other, more juvenile one, not so much.

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 25/08/2015 16:34

Except that interview came after mra speculation on here. Don't know when he followed f4j. Bandwagon jumping?

I suspect that the timing is a combination of holidays (his and expecting MNHQ to be extra pissed off ) and hoping silly season would help his fame bid.

Pipbin · 25/08/2015 16:35

Is it because adult women represent their teachers and mothers? Early signs of authority in their lives.
I agree that it isn't MRA or anything as sensible and grown up as that but I think that they have chosen MN because they think it's funny to annoy people who are like their mums.

2boysnamedR · 25/08/2015 16:35

I just think he's (or she) is doing it for shits and giggles? You don't learn to hack because you hate a certain group, you do it because it's fun, it's proving you know more about someone else tech know how. If you could get into the top NASA, Pentagon sites, your going to be the most revered tec going.

Unless your doing the AM site knowing people will suffer, which shows I'm talking crap Wink

AM is in the news, every day, all over the world. Copy cat? Got to start somewhere. People hack into business systems for fun. Just because they can. Then they can scoff at how easy it was.

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 25/08/2015 16:35

Can we name no. 2 Alexander? Pleeeeease?

NerrSnerr · 25/08/2015 16:36

I saw what was written on twitter last night about him having the user's address. I imagine he didn't 'hack' anything. He probably did a reverse image search, found her name (probably from FB), her location is on twitter and he's found her address from that. There's loads on the internet if you know where to look.

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 25/08/2015 16:37

I suspect AM was financially motivated. Blackmail material on high profile people poss and financial stuff victims would be too scared to clean up properly

ENtertainmentAppreciated · 25/08/2015 16:39

a rooster and some Denby at least, restore the balance. And a vat of gin emoticon

Definitely the vat of Gin as a priority as soon as Tech has a bit of a lull Grin

Arkkorox · 25/08/2015 16:41

Has he hacked a mnetters titter account?

BoffinMum · 25/08/2015 16:41

Put the hackers in solitary and make them do pile after pile of family ironing for a few months without the benefit of advice on how to deal with difficult creases.

That'll learn 'em.

00100001 · 25/08/2015 16:43

the hackers are quite open about the reasons - if you care to read their public threads =)

It's just because they can - they're targeting other sites too.

SchoolsOutTOWIE · 25/08/2015 16:47

I went over to GransNet too. A lot smaller and quieter but I found some great threads of interest to me. So I'll be joining up there too. Although I'm still in denial that I'm a gran

Glad you're back tho. I had to do some RL "stuff" whilst waiting and I really wasn't hitting refresh and checking twitter every half an hour or so

Simurgh · 25/08/2015 16:48

There seem to be a good few other sites who have upgraded their password and/or verification requirements recently. I suspect they might have taken a little lesson from this one.

NerrSnerr · 25/08/2015 16:50

It's a hobby for them- they'll be doing it because they can, because they'll get some cudos and I hate to say it- all the hysteria it's causing (is there now over 5000 posts about this?)

"Can we name no. 2 Alexander? Pleeeeease?"

There are at least two. The second one appears to be called Simon. I'm not saying any more about him, but I've seen his social media accounts.

NerrSnerr · 25/08/2015 16:52

Ark- I doubt it (unless she had an easy password). GED have found her name on FB and got her address from 192 (if he did actually get it)

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2015 16:53

I see there's a $500,000 reward for tracking down the AM hackers.

What can we get together for finding ours? Lemon drizzle cake? A MNetter to name their PFB after the cybersleuth?

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 25/08/2015 16:54

Saskia - I presume that info has been passed on accordingly?

Simurgh · 25/08/2015 16:54

Last night, I was actually presented with a captcha which comprised a number of photos of plates of foods and had to choose the ones that had salads! (It was surprisingly difficult.)

I'm wondering what the equivalent captcha for MN would have to be? Choosing between different cakes for a particular purpose? Wink

Jasonandyawegunorts · 25/08/2015 16:54

Saskia You've passed it on to mumsnet so they can inform the right people?
