What's making me laugh is everyone reporting stuff to MNHQ that normaly we would go

And carry on Grin

One good thing about this is that I have changed loads of passwords and I've juts reviewed the settings on my Facebook.
I thought it was all locked down but it turns out it wasn't locked nearly as much as I thought.

Simurgh · 22/08/2015 14:09

It may not have been you Pipbin. Some internet services - and Facebook have a bit of a reputation for it IIRC - have a tendency to do things to their sites and only fess up later/cover it in some small print associated with an update. Setiings on many sites are something that could well benefit from a quick review when you have a quarter hour spare.

Pipbin · 22/08/2015 14:13

My thing was that I had changed my privacy settings but I didn't realise it only changed posts I made after that, it hadn't changed posts I had made in the past.
Also, groups that I was a member off were also visible, including the one showing the school I went to!

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 22/08/2015 14:42

I had that with groups a few months back. Not my school, but it did make my location easy to guess.

Also worth saying that who you follow on Twitter can do that.

Simurgh · 22/08/2015 14:50

It sounds as if a webchat on the use of social media would be a good thing to add to the 'After the Storm' thread ? (Particularly as MN are linking most users more closely to FB, Twitter etc?) Users with children who are of an age to perhaps experience issues with social media might also welcome it so that they can help them with best and developing practice.

DawnMumsnet · 22/08/2015 14:53

@lavent

I've also had that pop up after clearing cookies - could MNHQ please confirm if it's real or not?

Hi all,

Thanks for asking about this. We've checked with our Tech people and they've confirmed that this pop-up is a standard Mumsnet one that appears when you first visit Talk. It's re-appearing for many of you because you've cleared your cookies, but it's definitely nothing to worry about.

Hope that reassures you.

Simurgh · 22/08/2015 14:54

Thank you Dawn.

TheTravellingLemon · 22/08/2015 14:56

So, to be clear 'extra goodies' has nothing to do with Jeffrey?

PrincessMarcheline · 22/08/2015 14:56

Hi, Marcheline, here. What's this list you are all talking about? And I had to re-register because I couldn't get on with my original username/password. Are lots of people having this problem?

PS: Sorry Justine to hear what you went through, it's truly awful.

oldgrandmama · 22/08/2015 15:06

Just wondering how to find 'The List' that shows who's been hacked? Don't suppose I have, being a boring old crone. Anyway, changed password several times and still here ...

WorraLiberty · 22/08/2015 15:10

The list is Here in alphabetical order, minus the passwords.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 22/08/2015 15:14

Ha! I was sure 'goodies' was the mark of a hacker! Snorts :)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/08/2015 15:15

I was sure the dodgy punctuation and odd sentence construction was the mark of a hacker Grin

CantSee4Looking · 22/08/2015 15:30

Interesting I don't get that despite having cookies set to be dumped when I close my browser, but I do have pop ups blocked. I seem to have managed to accidentally block most of the adds too. No idea how though. Really please as I have managed to get rid of the horrible new format that Yahoo forced on me whilst sorting out something else. And I have figured out how ds has been getting around the history checks on his activity. Angry I now have a wonderful gismo in place to beat that. I feel so educated, you really do learn something new every day on mn. and sometimes you don't require brain bleach Grin

Quiero · 22/08/2015 15:39

In a very strange way I think wor Jeff has done some people a favour here. I have been very surprised at how little some people understand about online security.

If we can take one small thing from this situation it's that many women on here are now a lot safer on line.

Pipbin · 22/08/2015 15:48

Do we know if the most recent Swatting victim is ok? I know that she wasn't at home but it is still scary stuff.

Devilishpyjamas · 22/08/2015 15:48

'Extra goodies' - oh dear, oh dear HQ....

MaximilianNero · 22/08/2015 15:57

I'm on the list, and I know my details were almost certainly phished in the last couple of weeks, partly because of the IP address but mostly because one time I went to log in on MN (would have been sometime between the 6th and the 13th this month) my antivirus came up instead of the log in page and warned me the site was insecure (it's never done that before). I ignored the antivirus and logged in anyway, since nothing on the site seemed any different than usual and on that basis I'm off to claim my idiot of the year award! I'll be standing in a dark corner wearing a dunce cap if anyone needs me Grin At least my antivirus is working well.

Gymbunny1204 · 22/08/2015 16:20

I haven't ever been kicked out but just now I opened mn, needed to log in so clicked on it and it automatically logged me in Confused. I did nothing but click on the log in words.

PrincessMarcheline · 22/08/2015 16:29

Thanks, I am not on the list.

Who's Jeff? Is that the hacker?

ToTheGups · 22/08/2015 16:37

pipbin has there been another attack, is it another mumsnetter?

Pipbin · 22/08/2015 16:41

To there was someone else a couple of nights ago. She had been interacting with him via Twitter and it is thought that is how he got her details.

Simurgh · 22/08/2015 17:03

Somebody, several days ago, posted a short skit about the hacker visiting his therapist, PrincessMarcheline. In that skit, he acquired the name Jeffrey. Another poster may be able to direct you to it or copy if for you.
