Would you like to test an early version of our Talk app?

Hello,
We've been working on a test version of a new Talk app and could do with your help putting it through it's paces.

If you have an iPhone with iOS8 (sorry no iPods, iPads or android for now) and you'd like a sneak preview then head on over to this sign up page and sign up so we can send you an invite (it doesn't have to be your Mumsnet email address just one you can access).

The app is very much a beta version and everything may not work perfectly. If you find something that's broken or think there is something missing, please let us know.

Ideally we'd like you to use the app to read and post on threads and do whatever you normally do in Talk. Please note, this version of the app is LIVE and anything you post will appear on the Mumsnet site for all to see.

At the mo this is for registered mumsnetters only so if you can't see the sign up page please check you are logged in.

Thanks in advance for your help - looking forward (I think) to your feedback.

Love the app but it is really, really power-hungry. It makes reading / posting for more than 10 minutes impossible if you are out and about.

In general I really like the app. But it is an absolute battery sucker as others have said. MN Talk accounts for 61% of my usage in the last 24 hours and I've only really been active on it this morning.

Have we mentioned that there is no access to messages on new AP. Pretty sure you could on the old one?

I'm a late responder. I've been using the app for the last couple of weeks.

I find it easy to use, however I don't like how long it takes to scroll to the most recent comments on longer threads.

I agree the bar at the top could be a little smaller.

But in general it's a nice to use app.

How do you check battery usage for apps?

Hello, I've been using the app, sorry I've not commented before I didn't see this thread.
I really like it for the most part. I like that all comments are on the one page. Replying is easy. I like the faces / symbols etc showing in the message pane.
I would like if the whole of the OPs message was a different colour. As if I am skim reading a thread I'll often just scroll to the OPs comments and but they are slightly more difficult to see this way.
I've not noticed it draining my battery but I'll check that the next time I use it as I've had my phone die unexpectedly a few times and that could be a reason.
Overall though - I like it and would download and use hourly

I like the app in general. But I need to be able to flip the thread, it's confusing me!

I like seeing pics, haven't added one yet but will try that here Grin I don't mind the text editor button but for me I think the * are just as quick or quicker - probably a familiarity thing though.

I'm finding it hard to spot my own posts even though I've tried a couple of colours - my eyesight isn't fantastic though - limited field of vision and periodic colour blindness - so it might just be down to that. Having the whole post have a less saturated background of the same colour would help, if possible?

I've not checked TIO today but yesterday it was in a random order (alphabetical?! Literally no idea otherwise!), I prefer it with most recently changed threads being at the top of the list like it is on the main site.

I really miss access to messages, please add access or explain to me how to get to them.

Great improvement on the existing app though BrewWineCakeFlowers

Love the ease of editing and adding pics - makes it a pleasure to use. I'm another wondering if it's power hungry though...

Can't wait to see it fully functional. And with a flip - really missing that. An option to go to first unread post would be bloody marvellous too. Flying pigs

Loveleopardprint if you swipe the thread name to the left you get the hide option, but it's not working properly for me. It hides it until you refresh and then it shows up again.

Interesting comments on battery use. I have noticed my battery going down quicker than usual in the last couple of weeks but hadn't drawn the connection (yes, how do you find that out, it would be interesting to know). Is it maybe to do with the beta-testing-ness of the app and lots of info going back on usage etc?

Go into settings, general, usage and then battery usage - after a little delay it brings everything up

Hi just tried it. I like the look and the strike through is good not so sure about italics I like that you see instantly what you do. how do links do oh I like that I can correct typos in my link as I go along. I like the spell check.
I found the book mark after someone told me- I would really need a tutorial or help.
For some people's names the date and time disappears.

Spotted one possible issue, can't you stop people being able to "share" posts from OTBT? That would be a worry.

Thanks fudge. I was wondering if you can hide a whole topic? Is that possible on the online/computer version ? Might have made it up.
I just seem to remember somebody saying that they had hidden "conception" for example.

Ah, finally found the invite email! It got lost in the ether when I was away on holiday.

Will have a bit of a play around for a while, although first impressions are 'better than the old app' so good so far

Although am finding navigating within threads a bit slow. Is there a 'go to start/end of thread' button like there is in the mobile site?
