Would you like to test an early version of our Talk app?

Hello,
We've been working on a test version of a new Talk app and could do with your help putting it through it's paces.

If you have an iPhone with iOS8 (sorry no iPods, iPads or android for now) and you'd like a sneak preview then head on over to this sign up page and sign up so we can send you an invite (it doesn't have to be your Mumsnet email address just one you can access).

The app is very much a beta version and everything may not work perfectly. If you find something that's broken or think there is something missing, please let us know.

Ideally we'd like you to use the app to read and post on threads and do whatever you normally do in Talk. Please note, this version of the app is LIVE and anything you post will appear on the Mumsnet site for all to see.

At the mo this is for registered mumsnetters only so if you can't see the sign up page please check you are logged in.

Thanks in advance for your help - looking forward (I think) to your feedback.

To summarise the problem solving:

  1. Link to the form from the main site, through a browser (not the current Talk app).
  1. You must be logged in before linking, or you will just see the MN Hompage. (Nothing to do with iOS8 at this stage.)
  1. The email you put in the form doesn’t need to be your Mumsnet login.
  1. This sign up is not connected to your Mumsnet account - just where we send the invitation. Once you’ve downloaded the Talk app, you will log in to that with your regular username/password.
  1. The test app will only work for iOS8

Some of your suspicions about the new app might be correct…

There is no preview because you can see what your post looks like as you type, including formatting and smileys.

Justine- with your large font issue - do you have Larger Text turned on in your Settings? This app supports Dynamic Type so the text alters in size according to how your slider bar is set

Actually no, my settings are are in the middle. Think we've established it's an iphone 6+ issue and we'll get on it.

My other big issue is that you are still using your 1980's inspired logo on the start up page. You know the one that looks like the Charlie's Angels logo - it's so naff and dated.

Ahem. You mean the one that's at the top of every page on the desktop site Shock? it's not naff and dated, it's retro and cool (and it's Mumsnet's!)

We're working on making sure deleted post images are hidden along with the text.

If I delete this app, can I get it back again? I only ask because I'm having real problems connecting to the apple app store, and after looking on loads of forums, it could be this app that's caused the issue, as it's the last thing I downloaded before it started.

MrsWembly there will be an update to install in order to post with emoticons again, you'll receive a notification/email from Apple soon.

We seem to have had some font size bugs that need looking at (particularly with iPhone 6+ people).

If anyone is squinting at tiny text (or indeed engulfed by huge text), could you first double-check your "dynamic type" settings.

To do that, go to your iOS Settings app, then General -> Accessibility -> Larger Text.

If the slider is anywhere from the middle to the right hand side and you're still having font size issues, it'd be much appreciated if you could post your phone model and iOS version here (which you can get from Settings -> General -> About).
