Would you like to test an early version of our Talk app?

Hello,
We've been working on a test version of a new Talk app and could do with your help putting it through it's paces.

If you have an iPhone with iOS8 (sorry no iPods, iPads or android for now) and you'd like a sneak preview then head on over to this sign up page and sign up so we can send you an invite (it doesn't have to be your Mumsnet email address just one you can access).

The app is very much a beta version and everything may not work perfectly. If you find something that's broken or think there is something missing, please let us know.

Ideally we'd like you to use the app to read and post on threads and do whatever you normally do in Talk. Please note, this version of the app is LIVE and anything you post will appear on the Mumsnet site for all to see.

At the mo this is for registered mumsnetters only so if you can't see the sign up page please check you are logged in.

Just to note that the post count of this thread has gone woogly - it's currently showing as 1. (I don't know whether that's to do with who was posting and/or on what device or software.)

Is anyone finding its killing their battery life? My phone was fully charged this morning and is now at 35%. This isn't normal.

I've got an iPhone 5s and I've just looked at the usage stats - this app is a massive battery sucker I'm afraid. It accounts for 20% of my battery use over the last 24 hours - miles more than any other app. It may have to go on those grounds alone. My battery has reduced by 1% just whilst I have been typing this post!

I've been looking at battery life and it is harder on the battery than Safari, but I have several other apps that are just as hungry or even more so, including my current favourite word game.

It's 75% of my battery use in the last 24 hours. Facebook by contrast is 2% and Safari 8%.

I'll probably stick to the mobile site if it carries on being so hungry.

What are the relative times you've been on each of the sites, though, LittleBear and what have you been doing when you're there? (Just wondering whether it's a marked and genuinely comparable difference or whether you're looking at the headline stats and not drilling down.)

Why are my latest 'I'm On' topics at the bottom of the page?

It's counter-intuitive and I have to scroll Down to see recently updated threads.

I have spent about twice as long on the app as on safari and rather less time on Facebook.

I recharged my phone about lunchtime and its on 85% now. The app is using a lot of battery.

And for what it's worth I only installed the app last night and it's 20% of my battery usage in the last 7 days. I haven't used it more or less than I would use the mobile site in the last 20 hours. For comparison Safari is 31% over the last 7 days.

The usage thing is very interesting - I wondered why my phone suddenly seemed to be draining faster!

Ditto on the battery life thing! I thought my charger wasn't working properly...

There were 2 random threads in my Watching - never seen them before in my life. And they sort of looked spammy.

I probably should have screenshot before I deleted them. Sorry

And this thread had disappeared from TIW and I had to find and re-add it.

That's not so good, LittleBear. It could be useful if you could provide stats on comparable usage with the old App - but even as it stands, it's a little worrying.

Threads I've hidden keep showing again when I refresh active.

Special Needs topics are showing in Active when I've opted out of them.

I'm having issues.

There's a thread I apparently watched in 2014. I stumbled on it and it was about a pregnant lady and MRI, originally dated feb 2014. Last post was yesterday and she still hasn't had her baby

Also tonight I was on a wedding thread and the times of postings are 9:15pm

Also please add a "search" by username or keyword function. Can't find this either!!

Testing

I've been testing for several days now and I am finding it much easier than using the mobile site.

Love the ease of doing strikeout and all the other stuff with the simple click of a button so easy to add photos as well!!

One thing would be when you're in a thread and it says the board name at the top e.g "relationships" if you could nip to that topic by clicking rather than having to go through topics list again.

If I delete this app, can I get it back again? I only ask because I'm having real problems connecting to the apple app store, and after looking on loads of forums, it could be this app that's caused the issue, as it's the last thing I downloaded before it started.

After using it for a while I think the app really needs flip, PM, and to search keywords.

I haven't noticed any bugs or negative use on battery life, personally.

it's broken!

I wrote a fabulous, loooong post on a thread and it never appeared and then after refreshing and refreshing, I got loads of posts with the wrong time and date and mine was... NOWHERE!!!!!
