Would you like to test an early version of our Talk app?

Hello,
We've been working on a test version of a new Talk app and could do with your help putting it through it's paces.

If you have an iPhone with iOS8 (sorry no iPods, iPads or android for now) and you'd like a sneak preview then head on over to this sign up page and sign up so we can send you an invite (it doesn't have to be your Mumsnet email address just one you can access).

The app is very much a beta version and everything may not work perfectly. If you find something that's broken or think there is something missing, please let us know.

Ideally we'd like you to use the app to read and post on threads and do whatever you normally do in Talk. Please note, this version of the app is LIVE and anything you post will appear on the Mumsnet site for all to see.

At the mo this is for registered mumsnetters only so if you can't see the sign up page please check you are logged in.

Thanks in advance for your help - looking forward (I think) to your feedback.

And fudge, (see, I had to go back to the thread!) I hadn't realised that about the search function; yes, we want a proper one!

cozietoesie · 27/07/2015 23:44

I tend to use the laptop rather than the App, MrsW - at least for the longer threads because it's such a PITA scrolling and scrolling when there are no bookmarks on the current App. The desktop site shows names and times of last posts so it's just easy to spot - especially when you know you haven't been on a thread for ages.

Enjoying using the App so far.
However, like others have said, colour blocking the OP's posts would improve it.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 28/07/2015 10:51

Finally got on! Going to have a read through

LuisSuarezTeeth · 28/07/2015 10:55

Don't like Grinit's lost it's menacing quality. Pretty happy with the look of it generally. As others say, highlighted op posts would be good

If you've signed up, keep a look out for an email from iTunes Store, with subject TestFlight: You're invited to test Talk Mumsnet 1.0

I think this has already been asked but I can't spot the answer and I can't figure it out! How do you flip threads on the new app? I'm going crazy...

FrannyMumsnet · 28/07/2015 16:02

Nightfall You are not going crazy... Flip is planned for a later version.

Nightfall1983 · 28/07/2015 19:19

Oh :(

KatoPotato · 28/07/2015 19:23

Infant feeding topic won't load

pixieg1rl · 28/07/2015 19:54

Today I've been getting this error when I post photos. The photos do post.

Sorry if this has been answered, possibly more than once...but will 'search' be on the main app.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 28/07/2015 23:53

Definitely can't do without flip, especially without page numbers.

MsInterpret · 29/07/2015 10:54

I noticed some time glitch problems too. Was catching up reading the Humans on C4 thread and the posts were marked Today 17.05 but they were from 2or 3 weeks ago. Only noticed because I was catching up and thought 'argh, spoilers!' then realised they weren't at all.

ophiotaurus · 30/07/2015 13:25

Hi not sure if this has been answered. I'm on the app on my iPad mini and active convos look this this.
The watch and hide function cover the thread titles.

ophiotaurus · 30/07/2015 13:27

I would like it if there were lines between the posts and if original poster was highlighted and my posts.

ophiotaurus · 30/07/2015 13:28

I like the font. It's very easy to read.

LittleBearPad · 30/07/2015 19:55

Thank you to whoever explained how to change the font size. On my 5S it was too small but is now good.

Would be really good to be able to read the thread whilst typing a response. Please don't make me remember usernames that I want to quote etc. I don't have the brain capacity.

LittleBearPad · 30/07/2015 19:57

Could 'I'm On' please alternate colours like 'Active' does. It's a sea of pink and difficult to read. I don't think it's the colour I've chosen.

GetTheFudgeOutOfRodge · 30/07/2015 21:35

I've realised now that if you start typing a reply and then you want to double check something on the thread, you can tap on the coloured background to minimise your keyboard, press the button underneath the smilies, font and post, it will say either 'Show bookmarked posts' or 'Show original post' and you go back to the thread to look at whatever you want and when you press 'reply' again what you've already wrote before going back is still there.
I've probably explained that really badly Confused

MrsWembley · 30/07/2015 22:59

Trying out fudge's idea, but it only shows the last bookmarked post - otherwise, Star for tech!

MrsWembley · 30/07/2015 23:02

And to those who are asking to have the OP colour blocked - that's already happening on my phone...Confused

MummySparkle · 31/07/2015 00:46

I've just noticed that this 'new thread' error message when you don't type anything new, comes up when you try to oust in an existing thread but don't type anything because I have fat fingers

Wording got me all confused that I accidentally had started a new thread for a sec!

The op name is a different colour but I meant the whole box to be shaded like it is on the mobile site.

Also there is a big rectangle at the top which cuts out a lot of screen space. It would be good if that could disappear when you scrolled down.

Also a way of getting to the bottom of the thread is essential because of its a long thread then it take ages to scroll down.

Flip is also needed but I saw that's coming in the update.

RustyBear · 31/07/2015 09:12

Ophiotaurus - it does say in the OP that it's not for the iPad yet - the app automatically downloaded onto my iPad as well as my iPhone and it's usable but a lot of the white blocks are not correctly aligned (eg the ones on the bottom bar showing which page you've selected. I'm sure that the final version will be optimised for iPad
