Would you like to test an early version of our Talk app?

Hello,
We've been working on a test version of a new Talk app and could do with your help putting it through it's paces.

If you have an iPhone with iOS8 (sorry no iPods, iPads or android for now) and you'd like a sneak preview then head on over to this sign up page and sign up so we can send you an invite (it doesn't have to be your Mumsnet email address just one you can access).

The app is very much a beta version and everything may not work perfectly. If you find something that's broken or think there is something missing, please let us know.

Ideally we'd like you to use the app to read and post on threads and do whatever you normally do in Talk. Please note, this version of the app is LIVE and anything you post will appear on the Mumsnet site for all to see.

At the mo this is for registered mumsnetters only so if you can't see the sign up page please check you are logged in.

Thanks in advance for your help - looking forward (I think) to your feedback.

Rather than the confusing white or blue speech bubbles indicating whether a thread has new posts how about all the speech bubbles being the same colour and, if there are new posts, a wee red dot next to it?

A red dot is more of a standard (I think?) and easy to understand way of indicating that there are new posts.

EquinoxEclipse · 22/07/2015 11:12

Yes, I agree - sort of like when you have a notification on an app on your phone. It's kind of pointless having the bubbles in another colour with no count, iyswim.

Other than that, I absolutely love it. I tried the old app once and hated it, so I've always used the mobile site - but this is much better and user friendly. Nice one!

Mummyofonesofar · 22/07/2015 11:18

Agree with a red dot -

Also and this may be pushing it a bit far....Can you add a bookmark button to the browser so if you switch between app and browser, the app can sync to where you last read on the browser too?

moab · 22/07/2015 15:15

Mummyofonesofar
You can switch between the browser and app and bookmark on both and it goes to the right place.
If ou press the three little dots at the bottom of a post on the mobile site it gives you a bookmark option

Mummyofonesofar · 22/07/2015 15:23

Doesn't work on the desktop though does it?

Mummyofonesofar · 22/07/2015 15:25

Pressed the dots on the mobile one. Which is bookmark?!

It works on desktop too you hover ov r the bottom right corner of a post. You may have to enable it in settings though.

I've attached a picture. It says bookmark. You just press that

Mummyofonesofar · 22/07/2015 16:57

Could someone please tell me how to change my settings then please? I don't get the option on desktop or mobile browser and can't find any options to change anything in my account or profile pages!

Mummyofonesofar · 22/07/2015 17:03

Just found the customise bit!!! Sorry everyone for being dim - this will change my MNetting experience completely!

Wyndford · 22/07/2015 18:08

I'm posting from test app Grin. I like it!

DollyTwat · 22/07/2015 18:38

Where are the settings Mummy? I can't find them

Mummyofonesofar · 22/07/2015 21:36

On the desktop I found them near the bottom of the page under customise!

MummySparkle · 22/07/2015 22:14

I bookmarked my last post in this thread, it hasn't worked. The little blue blob has vanished and I've had to scroll through it all again. Page numbers would be amazing! A forum I used to be on years ago used to jump straight to the last post you'd read from the TIO page. Is that a possibility?

DollyTwat · 22/07/2015 23:12

On the new app I can't find any settings
Am I being thick?

MrsWembley · 22/07/2015 23:46

Thank-you, Thursday!

Wow! I just saw that go bold!!!!

How about this?^

WOW!

And thanks to those who've suggested the bookmarking that mobile site users find normal. It makes flip less necessary, although flip would still be lovely (please...)

SweetSorrow · 23/07/2015 00:56

Some of the threads I've read tonight have the dates mixed up. One started on 26/6, then posts were dated today, then yesterday and then 29/6 and back in sequence.

I miss the fact that active went on forever on the old app and you didn't have to keep going back to the start too.

SweetSorrow · 23/07/2015 00:57

My bookmarking is working fine btw

Mummyofonesofar · 23/07/2015 06:37

Dolly there are no settings on the app yet.

Loveleopardprint · 23/07/2015 09:36

I agree with sweet that it was better when active went on forever. Hate the way it limits me to the last few threads.

Loveleopardprint · 23/07/2015 09:43

I thought my bookmarking was fine but just went onto a very long thread to find that the bookmark has disappeared. So some of mine are working and others aren't.

CinderToffee · 23/07/2015 10:46

The search doesn't seem to work.

MimsyBorogroves · 23/07/2015 12:17

Love the colour choices.

The place of the 'reply' is boggling me a bit...

MimsyBorogroves · 23/07/2015 12:17

I also need to be able to flip the conversation - I'm assuming that's not possible yet and it's not just me being inept?

Loveleopardprint · 23/07/2015 12:35

It's not you it's them mimsy!
No flip yet.

pixieg1rl · 23/07/2015 12:37

Righty ho, just a quick test.

I would add a vote for the thread flip, but I'll use the bookmark for now.

Keyboard on iPhone no worse than the old app, but if it could be a wee bit smaller that would be nice

Being able to enhance text on the app will be revolutionary save me a bit of time flipping between the app and Safari
