Morning all,

And welcome to the new thread!
Grin

As SarahMumsnet said at the end of the last thread, we have Tech on call for fixes this weekend, and various MNHQers will be here to talk and help wherever we can.

We'll be adding to the rolling list of bugs, glitches and dislikes (see below), so please keep the feedback coming. Do remember to list which device you're using, which operating system, and which browser, so we can identify the specific issues.

Right then, who's first?

Needasilverlining of course not dismissing your or anyone's concerns which is why I opened by saying I sympathise. I think I read on another thread that they did a load of testing but testing is never going to catch every [minority] viewpoint is it?

You might think it was ill thought out but other people like it. You're right, that does make you sound rather grouchy to me!

Out of interest, where have MNHQ replied on this particular thread to someone who has complained about an accessibility issue (by which I mean ones like your own whereby you say the scrolling makes you feel unwell) by saying anything remotely like "it's fine you will get used to it"? That might have been the lighthearted response to the initial general outcry on day 1 but that was ages ago. Perhaps it's time to move on?

What I'd love to know from MNHQ is if the number of people using mobile has varied since the changes?

VivaLeBeaver · 12/09/2014 18:53

Can I use dolphin browser on my phone. I like it and don't want to change it.

But in the bottom left corner is a dolphin button. I can't click on the active convos tab in the bottom corner as the phone just thinks I'm pressing the dolphin button. Drives me nuts and now I can't MN on my phone.

VivaLeBeaver · 12/09/2014 18:53

Meant I use dolphin. Not can I use.

VivaLeBeaver · 12/09/2014 18:54

I'm on a samsung alaxy mini 4, android. Dolphin browser.

Needasilverlining · 12/09/2014 18:54

I know how easy it is to fix one thing and find you've broken another! Web stuff great that way.

Needasilverlining · 12/09/2014 19:01

Trooblood, you might find me grouchy; I found your attempt to explain a one syllable word to me quite astonishingly patronising.

My impressions are my own and I'm not the first person to note that similar objections aren't answered when subsequent small ones and praise are acknowledged.

I'm glad the new site makes things better for specific needs, though. Just wish the solution didn't come at the expense of my use.

JessicaMumsnet · 12/09/2014 19:03

Hello, our sympathies that sounds frustrating. Would you mind attaching a screenshot so we can understand what you're seeing?

There's a few ways to get to active if buttons aren't your preference. Would accessing active via the link in the chevron menu be an option for you?

trooblood · 12/09/2014 19:09

It was meant to be! Smile Or at least, to make the point that there really is no evidence of MNHQ showing a lack of concern.

Seriously though, how you can say your objections aren't answered is beyond me. You only have to look at how often the blue posts show up to know that. And I notice it because I don't like that shade of blue!

I reckon if you keep helping MN resolve your issue they might keep trying to, so it won't be "at your expense". I think most sites would have stopped responding to comments altogether by now, let alone the grouchy less positive ones. I hope they do sort it for you.

JessicaMumsnet · 12/09/2014 19:11

@Needasilverlining

Thanks for understanding Thanks we're sorry if it appears we're cherry picking posts. It is difficult to answer every post but we do try and your dislike of the spacing has been duly noted.

Needasilverlining · 12/09/2014 19:17

In the time it took me to go and log on to my desktop to apologise for snapping at you, you replied Smile

There is, indeed, loads of blue. But I still stand by what I said - posts from people who just don't get on with the new look are far more likely not to get a reply until you actually post pointing this out. Which strongly suggests that there's not much they can, or are planning to, do about it. Which does make me feel a bit left behind, TBH.

But regardless, if you're finding it a massive improvement I quite understand that this does look like pointless moaning. And I did get very cross about the 'blithe' thing (not that you could know, but I write for a living) but would have been considerably less cross on more than four hours' sleep. Peace? Thanks

Needasilverlining · 12/09/2014 19:24

x-post central, I should probably give up for the night. Jessica, FWIW I can understand devoting more resources to stuff that you can actually fix.

I am in MN withdrawal and usually miles less grumpy. This is a public health issue...

I don't know if part of it is that I'm a freakishly fast reader (NOT stealth boast) so I am getting through a hell of lot of screens. I've seen the new look compared to the Guardian comments section and that makes sense because I love the Grauniad, but CBA with the comments on my phone because of the amount of scrolling I have to do to get something to actually read.

Is there a possibility of having a customise option? Miserable old gimmer text spacing? I just want my blissful MN-aided commute back!

MrsHathaway · 12/09/2014 19:45

I get a link - but it is in the same line as the title so is kind of hidden. I'm pretty sure it wasn't there before but will check my screenshots. Tech have clearly been changing lots of things...

And I can see all the posts, even when I show OP.

Wine Gin absinthe] and [chips] justiin time for the weekend.

stupidgreatgrinonmyface · 12/09/2014 19:45

Hi Jessica. Hopefully my screenshot has worked and you can see the chevron is on the left. It has moved across sometime in the last few days as it was originally on the right where it was much better.

MrsHathaway · 12/09/2014 19:46

And what stupidgreatgrin said about the drop-down arrow thing. Makes it oddly invisible.

trooblood · 12/09/2014 19:47

And I did get very cross about the 'blithe' thing (not that you could know, but I write for a living) but would have been considerably less cross on more than four hours' sleep. Peace?

Sure.

Not that I did know, but I could tell you write well! Hence, I knew very well you knew what "blithe" means (let's face it, it's not the kind of word someone who doesn't know what it means would use, IYSWIM). I guess my point really was to throw that at MNHQ seemed a bit harsh. Like, "the perpetrators"? If you'd not been a good writer it might have been easier to think that wasn't a delibaretly barbed choice of words. They are people too and probably some of them never sleep either!

Evidently they are replying and it's not just been empty "there, there" patronising crap you get in some places; they've subtly changed a load of styling stuff in response, rather than just fixing bugs and saying "that's how we like it looking, screw you if you're over sensitive to thick/thin/big/small/black/white etc".

I'm grateful that for me it's looking really good and I really do hope that they figure it out for you too. Peace and love all around.

lazydog · 15/09/2014 19:58

viva I use dolphin browser too. You have the option to either turn off that dolphin button entirely or move it to the bottom right (i.e. over the mn search button Grin) if you prefer? Settings -> Gesture and sonar -> Change entry location

lazydog · 15/09/2014 20:14

Or, VivaLeBeaver - I forgot to mention that on my phone, if I want to click on "active" without moving the default dolphin button location, I just have to turn my phone to landscape orientation and then the "active" button is much wider, so I can touch it without clashing with the dolphin button. Then I put my phone back the right way for reading...

VivaLeBeaver · 15/09/2014 20:20

Thanks LazyDog, will do that.

Smidge001
I'm on iPhone 4, latest iOS (7.1.2?)
I just posted a long message on a thread which appeared to work. But came back a bit later to see if any responses and my post was missing! If I went to the 'threads I'm on button', I could see the start of my post, but when I clicked through to the thread, it wasn't there. Tried refreshing a few times and checked it hadn't moved on to a new page then gave up and wrote a short post saying how annoying it was that my long post had disappeared.... - only to discover that now I can see the long post... So I was about to write another post to say, "oh it's come back", when I realised the one saying "Gah!!! Post disappeared" is now missing!

(Again I can see it if I click on the 'I'm on' button but when I link through to the actual thread it's not there. )
We're struggling to reproduce this, can I check a couple of things? which reading direction have you got set? Newest at top or bottom?
Thanks

Hi Jessica, sorry I don't know how to quote posts/indent so have just copied and pasted previous discussion..

I have newest post at the top.

I've been away for a couple of days and now find the issue seems to be fixed. Yay! Thanks.

Pointlessfan · 17/09/2014 08:41

My phone has automatically gone to the new mobile site for the last couple of weeks. Today it isn't, it is the normal website which is a pain to use on my phone.
I have a Nokia Lumia Windows Phone, can't find mumsnet at all in the app store.
Is anyone else having problems with the mobile site today?

JessicaMumsnet · 17/09/2014 09:06

Pointlessfan

You can switch to the mobile site if you scroll down to the bottom of the page - you should see a link saying 'Mobile site'.

Smidge001 Glad to hear you're all sorted Smile

(Thanks lazydog for helping VivaLeBeaver!)

JessicaMumsnet · 17/09/2014 09:08

MrsHathaway and stupidgreatgrinonmyface, is that still happening for you? Tech have made various tweaks to prevent that. The chevron should be on the right, in-line with the breadcrumb.

MrsHathaway · 17/09/2014 14:30

Still on the left, sorry (htc, android 4.0.3, WebKit 5).

Also special OPs (surveys, guest blogs, media requests) are still invisible.

JessicaMumsnet · 17/09/2014 14:37

Okay thanks MrsHathaway we'll take another look Thanks

Barbeasty · 19/09/2014 10:10

Is there any reason that you can't search particular topics any more? I just had to scroll through hundreds of items when I could have had about 20 if it was reduced to 2 (useful) topics.
