Hi all,

As you know we have launched the new mobile site, we know it's a big change and we are still very keen to get it right with your help. This is very much a version that will evolve with your help as part of the testing process.

There have been a few glitches that have/are being ironed out and the HUGE thread has nearly maxed out, so we thought it best to start a shiny new one.

We know change is tricky but, as with most things MN, we are all ears and happy to look at any feedback you have on ways we can improve the new site.

Thanks all Thanks

Think back to yesterday afternoon when the new site launched. A lot has been fixed since then so I have every confidence that the other issues will be sorted too. Speaking
Has the battery-eating been sorted? I tend to use the app when I'm not at home but if the battery is not going to be depleted in minutes when I'm out & about I'll start to use the mobile site.
Speaking of issues, I'm still having trouble with pics that people have posted. If I click on them they appear in a little box of their own with the background greyed out. But they're no bigger than they were in the post. If I click on them
To enlarge they nestle themselves firmly in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, still not much bigger than before. I then can't access the X to close the box because it's fallen off the edge if the screen.
Is this being addressed?
I'm on iPhone 5c
iOS 7.1.2
Safari

Cocolepew · 22/08/2014 10:57

Btw I'm on a Galaxy Note 3 in Android and I havent had any of the floating ad problem that others have mentioned, nor the too much white space.

I like the shortcut emotions Smile

MrsVamos · 22/08/2014 10:58

RowanMN

What message was that then ? Wink

SheWhoDaresGins · 22/08/2014 10:58

It doesn't just get to big it flaming well closes up like elevator doors!

I don't see why the tool bar or ad needs to do that, it means I can't zoom in to look at any photos posted.

Sad
bearfrills · 22/08/2014 10:59

Holy moly, bookmarking is now smooth!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/08/2014 11:00

Click on the photo and a big version pops out.

SheWhoDaresGins · 22/08/2014 11:01

Will try that. 2 mins

ScarlettDarling · 22/08/2014 11:02

Hi Rowan ...
I still don't have a 'customise ' button.
Or the infamous ellipsis at the bottom corner of each post.
Am feeling very left out! (Samsung galaxy ace by the way!)

GermyJamie · 22/08/2014 11:03

I like the shortcut bar. But I need it to not be baby blue. It's so pale the white text is difficult to read. This is an issue with my phone, not others as mine looks different.

Windows phone 8.1
Nokia lumia
Using their browser

Also my ellipses are currently not working at all.

SwedishEdith · 22/08/2014 11:04

Just been reading the Guardian site and thought I would try this again as it's clearly modelled on that. Straight away I had to move the screen away - still too glary. But the has much less pointless while space so I guess that's part of the problem - reduce the font and the spacing.

Also changes which are not improvements that I would like addressed are

  • I don't want to tap twice to get to Active Convos. I want a link to that (I've got rid of the blue box)
  • Ditto about tapping twice to reply - I want a quick link to that
  • I don't want it to be called Add Post, I want it to be called Reply - two words are not better than one. Plus, it's called Reply in some places -inconsistency looks unprofessional.
  • and it's still so bloody slow and unresponsive!
GermyJamie · 22/08/2014 11:04

My ellipses now fixed. Think that last page just didn't load right.

DoNotLookDown · 22/08/2014 11:04

My 'icons' are empty circles and square boxes, I have no idea what's what.

I also have no ... I can click on a post and the options appear, but unless you click on an option the box won't go. Clicking 'back' to try and get rid of it just takes you back a page.

I'm on a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, using Google Search. My phone doesn't support Chrome and I don't want to download loads of browsers, or update my phone ( as suggested on another thread).

It also gives me motion sickness, like watching a film on a hand held camera.

Eeek.

Anyone else not getting the ellipses/three dots menu at the bottom of the post?

MrsVamos · 22/08/2014 11:08

GermyJamie

I agree re the colour of the shortcut bar. I like it, its very handy but colour is bleurgh. Grin

Is Google Search a browser? (Sorry if this is a stupid question!) What's your operating system - Android?

MasterFlea · 22/08/2014 11:09

Thank you for making the desktop version available on mobiles. I'm squinting but happy to be off the new mobile version.

I really feel for Tech. What a fucking nightmare to have 1000's of posts of complaints and glitches in the roll-out.

I used to frequent another parenting forum and they brought out a glitch filled new version. I went wandering on the tinternet and found MN.
Have been here for 4 years and don't want to stray again. I never went back to the other place and they didn't even have tickers.

So while I am sympathetic to your plight, HQ & Tech, please stop the pain.

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 22/08/2014 11:09

Ok, I guess I'm the only person who cares about the social media buttons. I really, really want to hide them but maybe no one else is that bothered.

I haven't really encountered glitches, so perhaps that's why I'm free to obsess about the social media issue - I have an HTC...erm, something? The site seems to work fine on it anyway. I don't like the stark design but I can see I'd get used to it. If we could hide those fecking FB/Twitter buttons so I could feel less afraid of inadvertently sharing a thread, then I wouldn't mind it really.

(Sorry for the less than ringing endorsement, but a lacklustre shrug is better than furious rage I guess?)

SheWhoDaresGins · 22/08/2014 11:09

Ah it does indeed enlarge it.

I am useless with technology and this is causing problems for me

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/08/2014 11:13

You can't accidentally share to social media - you hit the button, then have to confirm - and it just posts a link to the thread doesn't include your username or link to your posts or anything.

MrsVamos · 22/08/2014 11:14

JellyStrawberries

I don't like the buttons either, but I also don't use any social media.

I know that others do though, so I suppose they are there for those that will use them.

Would like an option to hide.

Hahahahahaha

Social media sharing buttons are on the 'things to discuss when everything is working properly' list.

MrsVamos · 22/08/2014 11:16

ItsAll

I think that is what annoys some posters though.

If you don't use social media, you don't necessarily want a link to a thread you are on to be posted elsewhere.

I am just accepting that it is a necessary evil these days. Smile

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 22/08/2014 11:16

Why does Customise on the mobile site have so few options compared to the desktop site?

(I never used Customise on the dear old mobile site so I don't know if that was the same)

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 22/08/2014 11:16

I know you'd have to confirm, but it's possible to hit confirm instead of deny sometimes - and if it was, for example, a TTC thread that would be revealing and potentially embarrassing enough without your username being identified. I'd be much happier with the buttons hidden altogether, like we used to be able to do.
