Hi all,

As you know we have launched the new mobile site, we know it's a big change and we are still very keen to get it right with your help. This is very much a version that will evolve with your help as part of the testing process.

There have been a few glitches that have/are being ironed out and the HUGE thread has nearly maxed out, so we thought it best to start a shiny new one.

We know change is tricky but, as with most things MN, we are all ears and happy to look at any feedback you have on ways we can improve the new site.

Thanks all Thanks

Bookmark menu issue fixed - nice one tech! Wine

Needasilverlining · 22/08/2014 10:41

I haven't turned off the shortcut menu, that being one of two things I actually like about this abomination.

Plus it would give two extra lines at most. The problem is the font and spacing. The old site managed to pack in loads, could you not borrow back a bit of the styling?

MrsVamos · 22/08/2014 10:41

Hi RowanMN

I know there hasn't been much communication but I am sure you guys and Tech are tearing your hair out trying to sort it all.

I knew you guys would be sorry for the shambolic way its all happened !

You know us, we just need to know you do care about us !

RowanMumsnet · 22/08/2014 10:42

@TheOneWiththeNicestSmile

Between the white bar & the banner at the top, & the blue toolbar & white navigation bar at the bottom (though of course that one isn't there all the time) there not a lot of words visible! (This is on iphone 5 - I know some phones will be better, but some will be worse)

I know you've said you'll look at changing the blue bottom toolbar but are you also going to look at overall spacing, to reduce the amount of whiteness & increase the number of lines visible at one time, please?

We're going to try to fix actual bugs/broken things first, and address accessibility issues - then when that's done and we've all had some Brew and possibly lots of Wine we'll see where we are on the aesthetics/spacing/appearance. (Timescale for this is likely to be over the longer term though!)

MrsVamos · 22/08/2014 10:42

Oooh, bookmark is fine now !

GOOOO Tech !

Yay! Yes Tech have just released what we hope is a fix. Fingers crossed... do you want to all have a go?

MrsVamos · 22/08/2014 10:44

Rats. I have to go out later on.

I feel bad that I wont be here to see it through to the end !

I'll just have to come back tonight and gush at the lovely new mobile site !

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/08/2014 10:44

The problem is the font and spacing. The old site managed to pack in loads, could you not borrow back a bit of the styling?

You could definitely afford to lose a smidge of the line spacing and a lot of the paragraph spacing without impacting useability too much.

We will look at this - we just want to fix the actually broken stuff first. (There is a layer of functionality we haven't actually released yet... which hopefully will be lovely and shiny and useful when we roll it out)

Re accessibilty, this page is OK for me because your posts in blue break up the glare and whiteness that lots of us have mentioned.

I don't want to speak for everyone but if the posts are broken up colour wise it is better than the expanse of white, and easier to read.

Maybe some of my fellow mnetters could suggest colour/s that would be helpful ? Just thinking of a chat I had yesterday with LEM re white not being the best for some dyslexic posters ?

Germgirl · 22/08/2014 10:50

MrsVamos have you tried zooming in, the screen closes itself with the ad box and tool bar? I don't know if it has been mentioned and I can't bring myself to read through the rest of the thread.

Maybe release it without the fanfare this time? Grin

I think my opening post on the first thread is the single thing I'd like to expunge from my ENTIRE LIFE

Needasilverlining · 22/08/2014 10:53

I did see it, thanks Rowan - think we x posted.

I need to stop for a while now, this is actually making me feel a bit motion sick. Sad

The other thing I liked was the Smile menu btw. The styling is horrendous from a reading pov - I'll live with the ads, the tio will be ok when fixed, the look is actually just like Tesco as pp said but I'm sure I'd get used to it... but I loathe the constant scrolling. You need to fit more text in - white space is fab on a full site but counter productive on a forum.

Accessibility will be a top priority. Guides' honour.

Just tried it but it then gets too big to read posts !

Its getting there, I have faith in HQ and Tech, contrary to what some may think ! Smile
