Hi all,

As you know we have launched the new mobile site, we know it's a big change and we are still very keen to get it right with your help. This is very much a version that will evolve with your help as part of the testing process.

There have been a few glitches that have/are being ironed out and the HUGE thread has nearly maxed out, so we thought it best to start a shiny new one.

We know change is tricky but, as with most things MN, we are all ears and happy to look at any feedback you have on ways we can improve the new site.

Thanks all Thanks

see, lots of people have asked to be taken to the latest post on tio.
especially as important when you think mobile users are generally paying for data, so they're paying to look at something they don't want to see.

Ooooh, I never thought of that, nickel.

That'll be annoying, then.

TheBogQueen · 21/08/2014 19:53

Actually it's much better portrait than landscape.

I do like some of it but I would like to be able to see more of the thread

gamerchick · 21/08/2014 19:54

I like it, it loads up mega quick on my phone.

A couple of things that irritate but not a big deal.. I keep clicking on an invisible advert.

The good thing is (or bad depending how you look at it) Grin is its impossible to spend a huge chunk of time when you're on a phone, it's easier in small clumps so more housework is getting done.

I did give up trying to focus on all the white screen last night and stuck the laptop in as it was hurting my head a tad.

Other than that it's fine and major kudos to the techy people for the very few bugs to be ironed out.

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 19:55

I don't believe for a minute that todays top searches have been

hotels manhattan new york

To be able to bookmark you need to have bookmarking set up on the desktop site.
Go to customise then go down to 'bookmark links' and select 'yes'.

Is the blue bar doing odd things for other people? It's just sitting at the bottom of the screen for me.

JuniperTisane · 21/08/2014 19:59

Certainly not mine, MrsV...

I don't know if it depends what browser you are using but it looks dreadful in Opera. The old one was fine so I hope you bring it back. I'm off to read my kindle instead tonight.

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 20:06

I thought not, JuniperTisane Smile

Pssst. I think vfxdad may possibly be a designer ? Wink

nickelbabe · 21/08/2014 20:06

I finally went onto a thread where me or mnhq aren't the OP, and i've got OP in blue!

I chose olive on my customization on the desktop, which was the same on my mobile.
the problem with it defaulting to blue and not "same as desktop" is that now it looks like mnhq have posted everywhere abd I still can't see OP's posts!

it's also too close to the nickel colour that my own posts are in.

ConcreteElephant · 21/08/2014 20:07

Is it me or is there no difference as yet between links I've visited and links which I haven't? I find the colour difference helpful as when they are pretty much all changed I realise I should go and do something in RL

I'm posting this on the iPad as I can't get on with the iPhone now - I usually MN on the train while commuting but today actually ended up, like a PP, reading a 'Book'. The 'Book' even worked on the tube, it was great.

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 20:10

Hmmmm interesting, nickel. I like the idea that the colours I choose on desktop are the same on mobile. That makes sense.

MNHQ or Tech.

Will we be seeing any more updates tonight or will it be tomorrow now ?

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 20:12

There is obviously still a bit of a problem with posting.

Looks like maybe its the system repeat posting, not the poster ?

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 20:14

I'd be interested to know if posters are still finding the white really difficult, now that the sun is going down and not everyone has lights on indoors ?

Is it better or worse than last night ? Should it be striped for threads like in AC ?

I don't know if I have been a hindrance or a help, to be honest. Blush

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 21/08/2014 20:16

Ok, I've asked repeatedly if there is going to be an option to hide the social media buttons as there used to be. I'm guessing the answer is no and I think this is a fundamental misunderstanding of the way most people use MN. It's not the same kind of social media as FB and Twitter. Mumsnet is a site where anonymity is crucial to many users. We don't want to link our profiles here to our public profiles. We come on here to discuss personal, private things. I found this site invaluable when I miscarried last year. I did not go broadcasting said miscarriage across my Facebook profile, I wouldn't have dreamed of it.

I understand it's great for Mumsnet if people are posting threads on FB and Twitter ala Penis Beaker. But most of us don't want to do this.

The social media buttons are too easy to hit by accident now. This could cause people who come on here to post about sensitive issues to end up inadvertently outing themselves and their problems, sometimes with disastrous consequences. We need to be able to hide those buttons.

My other minor gripe - I use the site during night feeds and the brightness of the stark white background propels me a bit too far into wakefulness. I might just browse for dimly lit pictures of kittens in the small hours instead.

So please, please, HQ, could you give a response about the social media buttons, I meant to add.

Romeyroo · 21/08/2014 20:19

Sad this is still giving me a headache and all I have done is read the last two pages of this thread. Posting is making me feel sick.
Do I have some undiagnosed neurological condition?!?
I lack the will to see how long I last before I actually throw up.

The blue bar keeps obscuring posts.

It keeps freezing when I post.

I only MN on mobile and won't be browsing as regularly as it is too frustrating.
