Official Mumsnet mobile thread numéro deux

Hi all,

As you know we have launched the new mobile site, we know it's a big change and we are still very keen to get it right with your help. This is very much a version that will evolve with your help as part of the testing process.

There have been a few glitches that have/are being ironed out and the HUGE thread has nearly maxed out, so we thought it best to start a shiny new one.

We know change is tricky but, as with most things MN, we are all ears and happy to look at any feedback you have on ways we can improve the new site.

Here. For some reason there's no picture associated with some of the buttons on the toolbar. Also the third circle under the post message box has no icon, just a circle.
The social media buttons are too prominent in comparison to everything else. Finally, the shortcut bar is too pale, unless you plan to change its text to black? White on blue is not good, especially white on very pale blue.

Sorry if I've repeated some things. Pleased you've sorted navigation within threads and made some of the lines thicker and that you are working on TIO.

I am a visual person MrsV - i find it easier to explain what I mean and want if I can show it. :)

yes! Germy - except mine isn't blank, it's a blue rectangle.

my blue bar is much darker than yours.

I think we should be able to "hide" the social media icons too

We've had MN births, marriages. If they give us the old site back, maybe I'll be here until my dying days - huddled over the keyboard, wearing purple and a red hat that doesn't go and doesn't suit me.

Ok so I still find it hard to read, but I am more concerned about the major loss of functionality and usability. I do overall quite like the new look though.

With the old site it was obvious how to access all the functions, now I have to guess where you have hidden them! How do I watch/hide threads for example..

Also having worked in IT for many years, I completely agree with pp who said you don't just roll out a beta to your entire userbase.

I am using Firefox on Samsung galaxy s4. also quite often trying to bookmark a post, Firefox gives a script stopped responding message.

ItsAll, a new, improved version should be exactly that - improved, and when there are 1000's of posts saying that it is anything but an improvement for you, MNHQ and MNTech to dismiss them all as fuddy-duddies who don't lke change is unbelievably patronising.

Change is fine when it makes things better, quicker and easier, this change has made things worse, slower and difficult - that is the issue.

Again, no problem with adverts as I am well aware that MN need advertising revenue, BUT IT DOESN'T NEED TO FLICKER AND FOLLOW THE USER DOWN THE THREAD. The end result of the annoying adverts will be for users to load adblocker and not see any adverts which totally defeats the purpose of MN having adverts.

The new site looks awful, is awful and seems very ill thought out.

Have I missed mention of how to hide a thread?

This may have been said already but to be able to bookmark you need to have bookmarking enabled on the desktop site. To to that you need to go to customise - top left, then scroll down to where it says 'show bookmark' and select 'yes'.

There doesn't seem to be much traffic on the boards generally this evening. Just wondered if the mobile site is affecting usage overall...

The numbers thing? Please someone? Put me out of my misery and explain! Like this thread, I'm all caught up on the thread now, thanks, but there's still a circle with a 12 next to it! Why? Why?!

I can't see bookmarking when you click the three dots.
I don't like that there's only two posts and then you have to scroll down
It's a bit rubbish really and I definitely won't be mumsnetting when out and about.

Please please don't change the desktop version or I'll cry cos I can't mumsnet on my iPad.

Oh Em Gee my bookmark function is working on the mobile site

Does anyone know whether you can see if you've got a PM from the talk screens, or do you have to go Home to see it? Tech if not this would be a useful feature when you have a spare minute

MrsVamos I was the poster go said it was really hard to read and making me feel like shite...

I buggered off in the hopes there would be some improvement today.

The background is slightly better now, but the whiteness is still really off putting with nothing to break it up! My personal preference is pale blue or green, with white I see 'rivers' of the spaces between words instead of the words themselves - mostly when I'm tired, which I was last night! An option to change background colour would be brilliant if you can't change it to be even less white (I really appreciate the changes already made!)
Also willing to be out on a tester list as a sporadic user with accessibility issues!!

One other big problem I'm having though - if I'm reading a thread and accidentally tip my iPhone it changes the screen to landscape. On the old site, it would reset back to where I was up to when I turned it back to portrait. Now I end up halfway back up the thread and have to scroll down for ages trying to find where I was up to.
This is intensely irritating.

If you have a PM the circle at the top with the picture of the person will get a red dot.

Oohhhh has something been done regarding the whiteness. It doesn't look as harsh to me. It may because I'm in a bright room though.

Right MN I am giving you the benefit of the doubt and bravely trying to use the mobile site once more.

On the whole I like the new mobile site.

However, here are my demands suggestions:

Please change the I'm On listing to show the preview of the most recent couple of posts.
When you click the post from I'm On you are taken to the beginning of the thread rather than the end of the thread. Yes I know I can bookmark, but I forget.

The blank circle at the bottom is for adding pictures. I found that out when I accidentally swiped it and nearly added a picture of myself!

Have now got an advert from Hollister asking me to check out their look book. I'm 40 ffs
