Hi all,

As you know we have launched the new mobile site, we know it's a big change and we are still very keen to get it right with your help. This is very much a version that will evolve with your help as part of the testing process.

There have been a few glitches that have/are being ironed out and the HUGE thread has nearly maxed out, so we thought it best to start a shiny new one.

We know change is tricky but, as with most things MN, we are all ears and happy to look at any feedback you have on ways we can improve the new site.

Thanks all Thanks

It's all, the ads don't bother me and I do understand why ad revenue us important and my concerns gave nothing to do with MN doing anything without telling me first - it's pure and simply not being able to use the site properly to actually read and follow threads I gave an issue with, the whole point of it. I can't believe issues such as the lack of bookmarking didn't get flagged up in the testing - the launch has been shambolic to put it mildly.

nickelbabe · 21/08/2014 18:02

I've also replied on the other thread.

One thing I've been thinking is the buttons that we now have at the bottom - I've got active, watching, add post, i'm on, search.

Now, I don't use watching much at all, so i don't need that at the bottom.

*What I need at the bottom, based on what I use most of all on the mobile site are:

I'm on, top, bottom/reply, active, search* (in that order, please)

I don't use watching much, so that can go in the ellipses.

I really don't like your "add post" wording, because to me that looks like it's "start a new thread", which I don't want.
I want "reply" because I know that it's talking about this specific thread

Also - on my gotab, i haven't got the pretty pictures on the blue bar that sherborn has on her picture up there. I've just got blue rectangles.

I don't mind adverts top and bottom, but I really would prefer the advert not to float down the page when I scroll - like others say, it's really off-putting, and it also stops me from being able to scroll back up and down, and it reduces the amount of screen space I have.
It (bear this in mind when you're after pleasing the advertisers) makes me LESS likely to click on the advert

LittleBearPad · 21/08/2014 18:02

MNHQ I was very grumpy about this yesterday but it's definitely better than it was. Thank you.

And the screen glare is so much better. Brightness is now back at maximum on my phone. Whereas last night it was at 50%.

Now if you could sort out TIO to show previews pretty please and make it faster again I'll stop moaning. Wine

MardyBra · 21/08/2014 18:04

The thing is, I wish more people would use Watching nickel. Then there wouldn't be so much rubbernecking placemarking.

We all have different wants and requirements. As I said upthread, the number of testers versus the number of users, browsing styles and platforms seems to be an issue.

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 18:04

Posters have said that they would have preferred to pay a subscription than have all the ads.

Clearly the floating ad is not such an issue for you as it is for others.

I get that you prefer the new, that's fine, but there have been loads of problems that I feel should have been dealt with before HQ released this as a new fangled, lovely site. Its not !

"there are a large number of people hysterical because MNHQ had the audacity to change the site without asking them personally".

The missing words are : in my opinion.

I haven't seen anyone hysterical. I have seen people upset and annoyed and baffled as to why this was implemented without it really being warranted.

Your comment is a bit goady and not necessary, really.

I had a genuine reason, and I am very grateful to RebeccaMN for bothering to respond today and try to help.

Perhaps in the 'evening crowd' will be the posters who made many complaints about the old site. I've been on here on and off nearly all day and have not seen anyone say they hated the old one, or mention issues with it.

nickelbabe · 21/08/2014 18:05

true, Mardy, but I never remember to go to watching, i suppose i might if it's there in my face...

and rubbernecking placemarking is what makes it interesting - mainly because it keeps it in Active

MardyBra · 21/08/2014 18:06

I reckon that I've browsed sufficiently and clicked on enough ads over the years to have produced enough advertising revenue warrant MNHQ getting me that phone upgrade I mentioned earlier. Wink

nickelbabe · 21/08/2014 18:06

MrsVamos - i might have been a teensy bit hysterical.

but then, I have a very short fuse these days because I spend most of my time trying to stop the incessant toddler scratching herself to death Hmm
I haven't got the patience for things that shouldn't be annoying

LittleBearPad · 21/08/2014 18:06

I wonder if the bottom bar could be customisable? gives Tech more work to do

Versus Nickelbabe's list I never use Top because I just hit the time on my iPhone which achieves the same thing. But it's probably too difficult. Maybe add it to the list for 2015 to do list Wink

MardyBra · 21/08/2014 18:07

I suppose it's horses for courses nickel. I get bored of pages of "you go girl" type placemarking. The witty ones can stay of course.

MardyBra · 21/08/2014 18:08

Could you have managed to produce your live birth thread on the new mobile site though nickel. Can you imagine the loss to MN if we lost events like that due to the functionality?

nickelbabe · 21/08/2014 18:10

MardyBra and also, MNHQ - regarding "customise"
could there be an option, whereby, you get to choose what's on your little blue box at the bottom?

so, in your ellipses, there's loads of options, and some of them can go into your blue bar (and therefore removed from your ellipses), and some can stay in your ellipses. You might have to double tap or something to get an "organise" option. (or press and drag)
My tablet has this option, so i can put icons on my wall, or make shortcuts to things.

That would be really useful, then everyone can have exactly what they want to have - you could put the ones you have there now as the default, but make it so that everyone can choose their own order when they've seen what they need or don't need.

Tardis ? Confused

starsandunicorns · 21/08/2014 18:10

Ok the 3 dots are better i can see them now
But the background is still really glary

the strips in active are better but the blue writing is still prombatic ie too thin and light.
And if you could make the blue lines to separte posts darker thicker this would help
I go on this site every day but its so hard to read now it has made me feel crap that a parent site that i love and get support from thinks im should learn to love it beacause im dislexic and cant cope with some of the new layout it has made me feel rather worthless which logicly is silly but it has

If you want ever want a dislexic to try out new stuff i happy to do it all you have to do is ask

MardyBra · 21/08/2014 18:10

LittleBear That's what I meant when I said that there were too few testers, particularly if lots of them were newbies/infrequent posters. We all use the site in so many different ways.

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 18:10

nickel

Teensy is allowed with a scratchy toddler. Smile

Thats what I have seen, your second sentence.

Lack of patience from posters who were told yesterday afternoon about the new fangled lovely site that then didn't work - and still today isn't working properly !

Mumsnet should be easy to use, easy to navigate and accessible to all, in an instant.

(((hugs for you and scratchy toddler)))

ElBandito · 21/08/2014 18:10

Thing is, I actually like the new interface.
Imagine if there was even half the number of bugs. Then the tech team could have spent their day today sorting out the colours etc. I think then the level of complaints would be down and we'd all be thinking "gosh aren't they sorting out these tweaks quickly"
Inadequate QA is costing Mumsnet dearly here.

MardyBra · 21/08/2014 18:11

Does nobody want to join the "new phone with a bigger screen for Mardy" campaign then?

nickelbabe · 21/08/2014 18:12

can you imagine my live birth thread on the mobile site? Shock

my tablet takes ages to load a page, so I end up with 3 or 4 boxes with half words and half sentences on it
it would have been longer than 4 threads, i tell you! Shock

I wish i'd had a laptop though (still wish I had a laptop)
i spent a lot of time running up to DH's computer and typing a couple of words, having a contraction and running around the house to talk to people, going back later to find i didn't have a clue what i was trying to write, and it was all irrelevant now anyway! Blush

nickelbabe · 21/08/2014 18:13

thank you MrsV

Flowers
nickelbabe · 21/08/2014 18:14

i'll put my print of the desktop site on here too, to show what the bars between each poster should be to break up the mobile white glaryness.

Mardy

I'll join you, just as soon as the site is sorted Grin

nickels live birth thread on the new site ? Don't. We'd all still be trying to guess if she was actually in established labour !

FinickityCoder · 21/08/2014 18:14

LittleBearPad Thank you! I did not know that the iPhone clock did that! That has solved one issue for me.

I'd also like it if we could customize the blue bar.

Bookmark seems to have stopped working for me now. It puts the little flag on the correct post but then when I refresh/click back onto the thread it takes me to a completely different post further up.

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 18:16

nickel

Shock

Are you implying that Tech are really that silly ?!

I think/hope thats one of the things they are working on.

But showing them a pic ? Oh my. LOL.

nickelbabe · 21/08/2014 18:17

do you ever wonder whether newbies come on and say "nickel's live birth thread? it sounds legendary! where can I find it?"
Grin

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 18:17

I'm off to eat.

Hopefully see you all later.
