SP's thread was trolling?

I'm obviously incredibly relieved. But massively disturbed. How did that happen? Is SP ok?

How awful! Shock

Rissolesfortea · 24/02/2014 19:08

This was not a mere troll, it was a vicious attack on a particular person and I hope the person responsible is dealt with accordingly.

Glad both SP and DS are ok.

PoorOldCat · 24/02/2014 19:10

Fwiw I don't think it sounds personal iyswim? If it's a PBP with form for random bereavement threads, it's unlikely to be personal as in grudge type thing or RL acquaintance.

That might be reassuring anyway

ScrambledSmegs · 24/02/2014 19:10

I missed all this, but what a fucking vile thing to do. Bereavement trolling? Despicable.

So glad you and the 'tude are well, Derek. Like the name!

DevonCiderPunk · 24/02/2014 19:11

I am reminded of dizzymare... Glad SP and family are grand and happy.

Yonineedaminute · 24/02/2014 19:13

Do you know what I never really get upset by troll threads on any forum. I will admit that I never give much of myself emotionally to mumsnet as they say. However, my blood properly ran cold when I read that thread earlier and I couldn't stop thinking about SP and what she was going through - only to come back and see the thread was deleted. I was fucking horrified. It's one sick thing to pretend you have had a bereavement, it's quite another to pose as another poster (who has created such a wonderf image of her lovely little boy). It's absolutely sick, and whoever is behind it must have some major issues.

I suppose it's tricky when you have a poster who name changes regularly with quite long names and complicated names, but keeps the one identifiable bit in there - absolutely NOT blaming SP at all, but I guess it makes it much easier for that kind of thing to happen.

Having said all of that, I am so fucking relieved that SP and her little boy are in fact ok!!!

RiverTam · 24/02/2014 19:13

glad to hear you're both well, Derek. What a hateful thing to do.

DevonCiderPunk · 24/02/2014 19:13

Good to hear from you derek so pleased that you are both ok Flowers

Yonineedaminute · 24/02/2014 19:15

I am also glad of this thread, as I couldn't find any threads about it after I saw the deletion message and I seriously thought I might have imagined the whole thing (am 40 weeks pregnant tomorrow and have come down with some hideous cold thing so am a bit delirious!)

Yonineedaminute · 24/02/2014 19:18

Glad to hear all is well derek x

Redrosesarethebest · 24/02/2014 19:18

Derek, glad to hear you and your ds are ok Thanks also glad that you missed the thread

MarmaladeShatkins · 24/02/2014 19:21

Derek, I didn't see the thread but heard about it after it got deleted. I'm glad I didn't see it tbh as I know it would be playing on my mind. I hope you are OK and I'm sorry that there's someone cunt enough to do this. Flowers

I hope that the police will be involved. I rarely say that wrt trolling but this is a whole new level of vile.

gertiegusset · 24/02/2014 19:21

This is the weirdest trolling ever, why on Earth would a PBP suddenly change their MO and start to impersonate other posters?
It certainly merits Police involvement imo.

magimedi · 24/02/2014 19:24

I have never run such a gamut of emotions from the internet before.

I read the original trolling thread & was weeping over my computer.

I sent a message of sympathy & then had to go.

I came back to discover that it was a troll & was just so relieved.

Now I am so fucking angry that someone could do that - there is no excuse whatsoever for that & I do hope that MNHQ do all they can to find the troll in RL & that the most massive pile of shit descends upon that person & clings to them for ever more.

SP / Derek ( you're going to have to nc again, aren't you?) - I hope you are Ok & not too shaken by all of this.

JustineMumsnet · 24/02/2014 19:24

Under Section 127 of the Communications Act 2003 it is an offence to ‘send by means of a public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character’.
Trolls can also be charged if, for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to another, they send an electronic message which they know is false.

We'd certainly be happy to make available the info we have to the police in this instance (as far as I'm concerned there is no longer need to worry about data protection once someone's so clearly in breach of our site rules), with the proviso that SP is ok with us doing so. We'll just check on that first. Will keep you posted.

magimedi · 24/02/2014 19:25

Thank you, Justine .

gertiegusset · 24/02/2014 19:28

These people have to be stopped and dealt with.
I hope SP says yes.

IamtheZombie · 24/02/2014 19:28

Thank you, Justine.

georgedawes · 24/02/2014 19:28

thanks for posting Justine.

I'm so shocked that someone would do that. It is beyond vile. Glad you didn't see it Derek and your boy is ok.

AreYouBlueOrAreYouBlind · 24/02/2014 19:28

Flowers Derek. So glad everything is well with you and the 'Tude.

I def think you should change back to your Roxanne Reid name, that one was the best and I liked having a 'cousin' on here. (It's AlexReids btw). :)

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/02/2014 19:29

I missed the original thread, but Christ - what a thing to have happen. Fucking chilling.

Derek just to be aware, someone has linked to this from another thread in Chat so if you have namechanged to avoid someone in RL you may want to do it again to be on the safe side.

I would also be interested to know if this can be dealt with as a criminal matter. Malicious communications or something like that? Though I'm guessing that if it is, MNHQ would be unable to confirm or deny.

Let's hope there are some MNers on the jury, eh Grin

I've been copycatted more than once on other internet fora and it leaves you with a real nasty feeling even when it's 'ordinary'. How much worse was this?

People need to stay very alert if someone is working that little number on MN.
