SP's thread was trolling?

I'm obviously incredibly relieved. But massively disturbed. How did that happen? Is SP ok?

Vicar

Was wondering why the Caroline Criolla Prado case went to court? Was it because it involved high profile women and actual threats as opposed to mere malicious game playing? As far as I am aware the two internet 'trolls' involved had no previous police involvement.

Generally I am not of the opinion that they should be pursued through the courts, mainly because the courts are a pretty ineffective tool against the kind of personality issues that can lie behind this type of behaviour.

i would imagine it was due to the death threats mig but obviously i dont have all the facts.

If there is more to his with SP then the police will act accordingly - im not privy to all the facts with this either....

gertiegusset · 26/02/2014 23:34

Justine can I ask how it went with the Police?

KateSMumsnet · 27/02/2014 11:41

Hi folks,

Just to let you know we spoke to the police yesterday, and they will be getting in touch with the appropriate team who deal with this sort of thing.

MarmaladeShatkins · 27/02/2014 16:04

Good news!

Thanks for the update. :)

Stockhausen · 27/02/2014 16:13

Great news!

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 27/02/2014 18:08

Thank you.
Good news.

BrokenBananaTantrum · 28/02/2014 19:22

Thanks for the update.

RustyParker · 28/02/2014 19:49

Glad the police are willing to look into this

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 01/03/2014 07:49

There are some cunts in the world, aren't there?

SarahMumsnet · 03/03/2014 14:18

Hey everyone, just to update you - the police have come back to us and said that they've recorded this as an offence under the Telecommunications Act. The offence is:

Cause to be sent by public communication network a false message to cause annoyance / inconvenience / anxiety

They're now looking into the possibility of identifying the perpetrator - we'll let you know as and when we hear anything more.

Thanks
MNHQ

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/03/2014 14:26

Excellent news. Thanks for letting us know.

Sevensev · 03/03/2014 14:30

Crikey that offence is broad.

Sounds like just recording the offence though rather than identifying someone.

ParsingFancy · 03/03/2014 14:33

Good. Hope this goes somewhere pour encourager les autres.

pictish · 03/03/2014 14:36

GOOD!
Thanks for the update. I hope whoever it was gets in a whole heap of humiliating shit over it. It was a horrible thing to do.

mistlethrush · 03/03/2014 15:30

I do hope that they decide to follow it up and at least caution the perpetrator.

AreYouBlueOrAreYouBlind · 03/03/2014 16:21

Good news.
Pleased that they're taking this sort of thing seriously. Hopefully it will be a warning to other trolls that MN act and report and that the www isn't so anonymous after all.

I hope they take it seriously enough to try and identify who it was.

I think the Police ought to be rather interested in whether you know the person responsible.

Driveway · 03/03/2014 16:51

Glad they are pursuing this.

Stockhausen · 03/03/2014 16:52

Fab! Hopefully the troll scum responsible is suitably bricking it

IamtheZombie · 03/03/2014 17:28

Excellent news.

Presumably having decided to record this an offence means that the police will be able to obtain the name and account information from the nasty piece of work's ISP.
