FWR split continued

We have decided to start a new thread about this as the other thread was near capacity and taking a while to load.

Here is Justine's post from earlier on

We can give a Radical Feminism topic a go if that's what people want and see if it works. Obviously we need to be crystal clear that no one is obliged to post in one particular place and no one should feel excluded from any topic but we could test it out, and see if it helps resolve tensions. We'll do that in the next few days.

There are a couple of other things to think about as well.

First, those who come onto FWR to derail and inflame. We acknowledge that we have been too slow in the past to spot these posters for what they were. We're sorry about that and hope we're a lot quicker at dealing with them now. We're all for opinions but we do draw the line at posters whose only obvious intent is to goad.

And secondly, this idea that FWR can be an unwelcoming place to those who aren't following the 'party line'. Judging by posts on recent threads and by our inbox this is a view of a significant number of Mumsnetters and obviously that's not a healthy situation. Mumsnet is a place for discussion and for diverse opinion and it's the exchange of ideas and tolerance of differing opinions that makes it the board it is.

We do hope threads like this help to clear the air a bit and remind everyone that, whatever the differences of opinion, the FWR board will only ever be the stimulating, thought-provoking, enriching place we'd all like it to be if people feel that they can express themselves without being jumped on.

Please do continue to let us know your thoughts.

Please stop bullying me with monarchical assertions frothy.

Hullygully · 01/07/2012 20:51

You LOVE me, you can't help it. Kneel peasant

dreamingbohemian · 01/07/2012 20:51

Yes, shut it all down.

People can post in Politics in the meantime. Or AIBU or Relationships or anywhere.

Maybe then we'll all appreciate the section more and be a bit more willing to compromise.

glasgowwean · 01/07/2012 20:52

Tablet ? Anyone ? Hully ?

Obvious attempt to derail and stop the horror

Hullygully · 01/07/2012 20:52

ok I have been hounded off to watch telly and drink wine and plan the cast list for the play

EclecticShock · 01/07/2012 20:53

I disagree, not all feminism has to be a political discourse, this is not the only way to help women. Even of it is a political discourse, there will be different strands and it's not an assessment in terms of " you fail at being a feminist" because you have a different valid viewpoint. This reminds me of the house of commons if it wasn't televised or had a speaker :)

glasgowwean · 01/07/2012 20:53

Quarantine FWR or remove and start again ? Hate to agree but maybe the right solution

mumblecrumble · 01/07/2012 20:53

I wonder how much the women's movement and feminism would progess if this htread were made public to the world.

I have never been ashamed to be awoman but this thrad is getting me there. Its just disgusting how people thinki they can talk to each other and hide it behind a mask of so called equlity theories.

I agree with dreaing. Its a bloody forum, just shut it down if its beign treated so badly.

MiniTheMinx · 01/07/2012 20:54

Hully, I genuinely thought on the other thread you were part of the solution, now it seems you may be part of the problem. Please, please stop this.

FrothyDragon · 01/07/2012 20:54

See?

You indulge in the fucking attacks, Hully.

Yet you try to imply Dittany's the one insulting and abusing everyone.

Careful, your mask is slipping.

EclecticShock · 01/07/2012 20:55

We need an impartial speaker of the house... Preferably better than bercow... Although I'm not sure mn will find that financially viable seeing as we aren't running the country just exchanging views :)

Mintyy · 01/07/2012 21:01

Agree with dreaming.

EclecticShock · 01/07/2012 21:01

Can we get a new thread, phone dying under pressure.

dreamingbohemian · 01/07/2012 21:02

Agree, mumble, I think we do need some bloody perspective here.

All these threads do is blow this up into something huger than it is.

Nah, I don't think this is a case of lancing a boil and the poison drains away. I think the boil has been lanced and the poison is now infecting the whole limb. Or arse cheek. Depending on where the boil is. Either way, urgh.

dreamingbohemian · 01/07/2012 21:05

I think it cleared the air to begin with, but now it's a bit more like poisoning it

It's astounding, the number of 'you said this, you said that' posts, cross-thread hatred, the longer this goes on the more poisonous it will get and we'll never recover.

VictorGollancz · 01/07/2012 21:06

Ahhhhhhh riiiiight, I see. I've had a good old catch-up with the thread and as far as I can see, it's perfectly fine to have a good old bunfight and say anything you like as long as it's the Radical Feminists you're taking aim at.

If they say anything back then it is evidence of the Evil Feminist Harpy Women.

Am I doing it right now?

The irony of chucking out the term 'professionally offended' after almost TWO THOUSAND POSTS of posters claiming personal attack and being called 'pro-porn' as the central reason for splitting the board.

Is that the sound of an irony-meter exploding that I hear?

And people are still claiming to have been called 'anti-feminist' as if it's the worst thing in the whole wide world...

dreamingbohemian · 01/07/2012 21:07

x-posted poison metaphors Smile

glasgowwean · 01/07/2012 21:09

I posted in anger Victor and did report myself for it.

EclecticShock · 01/07/2012 21:13

Being called anti feminist is quite offensive, when you are a feminist. Just saying...

Anyway, where are mn? Can we take a poll in fwr... Shutting down the board for a while... The three categories discussed, dittany's suggestion of patriarchy/misogyny topic and leaving the board as it is ?

Obviously the new section added isn't working.

VictorGollancz · 01/07/2012 21:17

Ack, stuff it.

It was either Alameda or AyeRobot who suggested being the change you want to see.

Good idea.

I thought that posters were genuinely concerned about the state of FWR, hence why I engaged for such a long time yesterday trying to present the opposite view. Posting really nicely and educating absolutely everyone, and trying to get along with allcomers is not always my way but it's a pretty admirable goal, even if it's causing all this arse.

But clearly I was wrong; a lot of posters are perfectly content to attack while simultaneously demanding that attack must never, ever happen.

That's really not on.
