rear facing stroller - bringing this to the top again

hi
have revived this thread as I'm in exactly the same position - got a toddler, so past the stage of wanting complicated systems, and tired of having to stop every few steps to find out what he's saying to me. the thread was too old for any of the links posted to work, so just wondering if anyone has any ideas, or if any of the original people can chip in again? ideally would like an umbrella style that i can get on and off the bus, and perfect would be one that turns do be either front or rear facing.
thanx

i looked and looked and looked for a rear facing stroller, but to no avail, looked into other options, the Loola, buzz ect but all were too big. I have finally settled on the Quinny Zapp because the seat is angled in such a way that you can see your child and talk to them, but if you do find a rear facing stroller i would be very interested

stringbean · 11/01/2007 11:59

Unfortunately, pushchair manufacturers just don't seem to want to make rear-facing umbrella strollers - I searched and searched last year to no avail. I ended up with a Loola, which was just too heavy for what I wanted, so I'm going to have to sell it. Most of the rear-facing type are travel systems (the Graco Liberty Elite is another that can change from forward to rear facing, but is big when folded and, like the Loola, heavy). I emailed Maclaren early last year, who told me they had a rear-facing stroller in production, but they have since shelved their plans. Personally I think there is a huge gap in the market for this type of buggy, but what do I know? I'm just a mum.

misdee · 11/01/2007 12:03

apart from the loola which is heavy, there are no umbrealla type rear facing strollers.

easy to fold systems do exsist, the hauck icco jeep infinity range is good, the bugaboo, quinny buzz (found it hard to collaspe myself) or a pram style one like the emmaljunga, which is very big and bulky.

nappyaddict · 11/01/2007 12:28

here

misdee · 11/01/2007 12:31

nappyaddict, thats my dd. she is very small for her age, is in 9-12/12-18month clothes and very light as well

nappyaddict · 11/01/2007 12:31

hmmm well was worth a try!

by the way whats a wrap handle?

misdee · 11/01/2007 12:33

a continous handle. one handle.

nappyaddict · 11/01/2007 12:36

oh i thought the one in the picture was one of those ..

nappyaddict · 11/01/2007 12:36

got you now ... the one you got is an a3!

nappyaddict · 11/01/2007 12:37

so can you use pramettes like a rear facing pushcair then? sitting up i mean, not flat.

noonar · 11/01/2007 12:39

i used to dream of patenting an umbrella style rear facing buggy. my bro has an MA in innovation design. i may speak to him!

misdee · 11/01/2007 12:39

yes, but they need a cusion behind then for support. its not the way its meant to be used, but does get a while longer with it in pramette mode.

MrsBadger · 11/01/2007 12:40

no, pramettes only go flat when facing you - been foxed by this before and was hoping the Silver Cross 3d would sit up facing you... but it doesn't.

nappyaddict · 11/01/2007 18:45

i don't really understand why it won't go flat facing you. surely the mechanisms are all the same just the other way round. seems silly to me!

misdee · 11/01/2007 18:50

all it is, is that its a lie flat pushchair with an extra flappy pad thing sewn in the middle. when you zip it for pramette you put it over the bumper bar and where the head usually goes, a bit lifts up to make the pram bit. it can only lie flat in pramette mode.

mitsuko · 11/01/2007 21:29

definitely a gap in the market then
thanks for all the comments, guess now it's narrowed down to an umbrella style that's easy to fold, with decent wheels (maclaren ones have been a problem and too expensive to replace - I walk miles and would rather treat myself to a new buggy)

have been looking at the Peg Perego Plito P3 because it has a ledge that another child can stand on at the back, although someone else posted that it isn't sold as such now because a child stood on one in the states and tipped the empty buggy backwards, then sued (think that was the story) but the foot board still seems to be there in the spec, just not hyped. seems like a brilliant feature if it works

would be really useful as I sometimes use a buggy board for older child (4 but small and light) and it's forever tipping the pushchair over itself if I have it in the up position and then ds gets out of the buggy

anybody got any experience?
(can't believe how helpful these boards are!)

ooh, ooh, news update!

have just been nosing round the Inglesina website and it appears that they are doing an umbrella-folding both-ways-facing stroller in their new 2007 range.

It's called the Ottuto , but not many places have it for sale yet, and those that do (eg here ) seem to have it bundled with a carrycot and a carseat, so it works out pricey.

However, there are a couple on Ebay without the carrycot so are a bit cheaper.

At least it shows one manufacturer has got their head screwed on...

FestiveAtForty · 14/01/2007 18:05

ooh not seen that one MrsBadger, interesting!

I too have been on a quest for a rear-facing Maclaren Techno replacement which can manage slightly rougher ground than a shopping centre.

Have settled on a Quinny Buzz which I do like but the wide wheel base is a pain when shopping. Also don't see why the chassis has to be quite so wide and heavy - could do without the hydraulic thing tbh as it just keeps popping up when you don't want it to.

So manufacturers, pull your fingers out and sort it!

MrsBadger · 14/01/2007 18:10

having said nowhere's got it, Mothercare has the Otutto on special offer (still not cheap though)

FestiveAtForty · 14/01/2007 18:16

Something like a Micralite but rear-facing would be nice - would also be handy to be able to put a car seat on it like you can with the Micralite

MrsBadger · 14/01/2007 18:16

oh, and also consider the Bebecar R-versus , which umbrella folds and faces both ways.

I think they are out there, they're just not publicised well enough!

nappyaddict · 15/01/2007 00:47

just found this

nappyaddict · 15/01/2007 00:47

lol same link as mrs badger!

tinkerbellie · 16/01/2007 10:54

hi i am having the same prob the ottuto thing looks good but donlt need the carseat or carrycot just want something that looks funky but with bigger wheels so pushes smooth and folds smallish , had the micralit and this was perfect but just does not lie flat enough and you cannot get to the storage basket for anything (you cannot get a loaf of bread in it without a struggle, i had the bugaboo gecko andthis was perfect except it is still pretty big when folded and the seat comes off so is no good at all for public transport

tinkerbellie · 16/01/2007 10:55

also why donlt they do a 3 wheeler that umbrella folds that would be good!
